My friend Ghada @ghadaanqar1 asked me to write a few words on their behalf to try and raise funds to support their family. After more than a year of constant, relentless siege, bombardments, starvation and sickness, Ghada needs your help supporting her family and saving up to evacuate (which is a monstrously expensive process).

To make matters even worse, Ghada's niece Iman is suffering from osteoporosis, an already dangerous condition only made worse by the inhuman conditions Israel's assault on Gaza has created. Now she needs to raise money not just to try and support her family (many of whom are young children who just want a future), Ghada also needs funds to help support Iman.

I want to finish this by saying that Ghada is an incredibly kind, patient person, and I just want to ask you to please find it in your heart to support her. With the pause in fighting brought on by the ceasefire, now is the time to start providing the resources Ghada's family, and the thousands of others like them, need.

Help a disabled family get home

With the announcement of a ceasefire and plans to reopen a safe route back to north Gaza, the Al-Habil family are getting ready to go back home!

But the way ahead is still very difficult. Ibtisam's son Mohammed needs an urgent surgery to try to save his leg, and her daughter Nour needs ongoing medical care and a nutritious diet to live with her heart condition. Ibtisam herself is also still trying to treat severe back pain after a herniated disc.

In addition to all of this, the costs to travel back to their home in the north of Gaza are extremely high. Due to having multiple disabled individuals in their party, traveling by foot is impossible. This means they will have to hire a transport, which will cost thousands. The fact that disabled people are being exploited with such exorbitant prices is disappointing, but there is nothing we can do right now.

To meet the family's needs and arrange safe and accessible transportation, we will need about $6000 USD (about $8,619) CAD. We will raise it increments of $1,000 USD or $1,440 CAD.

Without your support, Ibtisam and her family are stranded in central Gaza, with no way to get home. They still have no income, and likely will not for some time. They should not be forced to remain in displacement, living in limbo on the streets of central Gaza, because of disability.

Ibtisam's oldest daughter is very sick with the flu, and they remain living on the street in a broken tent. The family has made very little progress in toward their goal, and they are feeling extremely disheartened.

Despite the ceasefire, life in Gaza remains extremely difficult. This is especially so for disabled people ano women-led families. What should be a time of joy and recovery is now a time of stagnation and hopelessness.

The family remains stranded in central Gaza, while all around them people are going home. But they can't go home because they cannot travel long distances by foot. They are stuck there for the foreseeable future, feeling forgotten.

r/bpdlovedones is such a fascinating coalescence of divorcees. not that everyone on the subreddit is divorcing someone with bpd of course, but there's a very specific contingent of "my bitch of an ex wife" divorced guys who hang out there.

Really video essays are strange because they completely changed the demographic associated with "essays" in any sense. A lot of them are just someone talking enthusiastically about something with no real point in mind. The analysis often consists of just summarizing or loosely bringing out some vague historical relationships. One of my friends recommended one I thought was quite bad that talked about like the hidden angelology in a video game, and it was just like a collection of enemies being named after different kinds of angels with a few poorly understood excerpts from historical texts. And when they do have a point it's just like this sort of rote, formulaic activity that creates the cultural form of "Why your favorite kid's show is secretly leftist" that leaves no one the wiser or, at worst, presents the world as you want it rather than it is. My point is really that it's created a niche in which the essayist (and moreover critic) isn't really a keen analytical thinker or engaged in any kind of interesting project of world-making, or otherwise good at writing essays, but someone who likes talking in the right way with a sort of fevered pitch about the right things. And I think there's something that academics can learn from this insofar as I think the constant bemoaning of people's lack of interest in excruciatingly formal presentations of an argument is a losing battle. It'd be nice to have good thought and argumentation at the same time as engagement though. But some video essayists are quite good and close the gap well.
