I know Hussie wanted some excuse to parody fanfiction or some shit but I think the concept of troll ancestors/dancestors is absolutely dumb when everyone is born from an incestuous slurry and they have no concept of human family. Lusus shit is cool as fuck and if anything, because of their genetics, it makes more sense for trolls sense of family to be formed through an adoptive sense than a biological sense. In fan works I also wish there was way more stuff between trolls and their lusii (a cooler, more interesting and far more sensible much more previously established canon concept) than just making trolls have this more traditional and human family unit and structure (like making the characters be offspring, siblings then parents).

Like yeah that’s cute and all but the concept of this fantasy alien race being raised by cool mythical and fantastical beasts and monsters as the norm and lack that traditional human sense of family > what if the aliens were even more like humans and raised just like normal humans. Just takes away another fun element that made the trolls more fantastical and alien.

If anything with the ancestors/dancestors, I think it would have been much better if they were more like these historical figures of a specific caste each troll idolized or looked up to or was inspired by. Vriska and Mindfang are already an example of this.

I think the thing about Jack Noir and Doc Scratch is how they felt connected to Lord English and how Lord English himself felt like he was an overbearing presence that moved the hands of fate for the characters.

Obviously Scratch us his host, existing as a superintelligent puppet-computer that only functions to bring about the death of the universe where Lord English can be born, and by any means necessary. He broke Vriska and Terezi’s relationship, as well as lend Sollux the tools he needs to build sgrub. He made sure Aradia dies so she can use dreambubbles as means to speak with a past Aradia and start Sgrub. He made sure Rose would go Grimdark to fight Bec Noir and deal with potentially the one skeptic that would try and break the game, and used her cunning against her to bring about the green sun.

Bec Noir felt a huge part of the plan too. Scratch and English needed Bec so the kids had an incentive to scratch the universe, and Scratch made Vriska lose and eye and arm as some psychological manipulation for her to MAKE Bec Noir. He knew she would never listen or respect him so he let her on and dared her to double down on her attitude. Bec destroyed the faith the Beta trolls had in their breaking relationship, was strong enough to kill a girl powered by ancient cosmic magic, and could go toe to toe with Vriska, a character with the best combat experience, and absolute luck. Act 5 Act 2 also made sure to jump between scenes often to reassert how interconnected the whole world was, from the exiles to the midnight crew to both sburb sessions, and even Hussie’s gogdamn narrative pocket.

Ao Act 6 comes around and English is here, and that’s the problem. He’s in an isolated region, tending to his stuff, and chasing after something we never see on screen until Vriska finds it and Alt Calliope shows up Act 6 Act 6 Intermission 5 style.

Ild villains like Bec Noir literally only exist to be chased by PM and fly around towards the meteor. Scratch is dead forever so he’s no longer pulling the strings, and worst of all Lord English kills the only other omnipotent character, Andrew Hussie. So we’re left with 2 active antagonists besides English. The condesce and Caliborn. Caliborn technically knows he’s becoming Lord English but only interacts with Hussie and the alpha kids (and John) so his impact and spread throughout the narrative feels less like he’s influencing and pushing off the story and more like he’s still inside a contained region, physically it’s the corpse of Earth C and narratively it’s act 6. The Condesce is said to be a minion of Lord English and rebelling for control. We never see her interact or encounter Lord English in any way, which narratively keeps her isolated from him. Her impact is mostly on the alpha kids, which connects with how she feels less like an overarching and important villain and more like a bubble in act 6 where she is the focus for the alpha session. The 3 year journey seriously separates a lot of characters and plot threads and breaks down a major factor of why people loved Homestuck: the webbing and interconnectedness of the narrative. It was still in Act 6, but more as a performative completion of minor plot contrivances, like where Jaspers went before he died, how Liv Tyler was born from the Con Air rabbit, and why Lil Cal is actually the most important Macguffin ever.

Sometimes I question if Hussie was confused by his own quadrants system because he claims Kanaya is a lesbian but then contradicts himself by clearly showing her have crushes on men in the non-lustful quadrants. No wonder people were so confused thinking only red and black were romantic and pale and gray were platonic

hi! i've seen a lot of your posts, and i can tell you know a lot about Homestuck. i was hoping you could answer a question that's been bugging me recently. i've beenn working on some alt-timeline fics, and i was wondering if it was possible for a troll to have more than one morail...? i've noticed that, while a morail does act as a "calm the heck down" kind of person (ex. Equius +Nepeta), they are also treated as confidants (ex. Karkat +Kanaya). what do you think?

i really like what the anon who said they wished they could have learned about the dancestors in a similar way to how the ancestors were written. that would of been so cool and i think more people would have liked that.
