Writeblr Re-Intro

Hello all and welcome! I'm Quentin, a teenaged writer trying their very best, and I've been here for a while. I recently checked, however, and wouldn't you know it but I'm on my second year on writeblr (with many projects coming and going and plenty of personal growth and change), so I figured I'm due for a reintroduction :]

I mostly write fantasy, sci-fi, and other speculative fiction, mostly with a twist of humor, but I've recently been wanting to branch out into horror and contemporary fiction. I'm also queer and a person of color and those aspects of my identity often bleed into my writing and characters. In fact, all of my writing includes LGBTQ characters and characters of color.

I'm also always looking to meet new writers! Feel free to talk to me-- my inbox and messages are always open!

NaNo Update #3: MBP

Wordcount: 10,204 / 50k

I am. so sorry besties. Because I totally forgot to post a NaNo update and that's for the same reason I will almost definitely not be finishing NaNo (unless some miracle happens in the next few days). I've been very busy (not to mention having a weirdly emotionally turbulent and socially dramatic month this fine November for some reason) purely by coincidence and it just so happened to coincide with me deciding I was going to do NaNoWriMo because let's face it I am at least a little sick in the head (and in the body. I am also really sick right now. Which is another part of why I haven't been writing as much as I'd like lately. And which is why I sound like this (a lil bit deranged))

BUT this month has gone so well in terms of writing. I've just loved trying to be creative every day and, honestly, I'm super proud of myself for what I've done. Breaking 10k is still pretty big and I'll be really proud if I can write more (maybe 15? 20k?). The goal of this was to get me to try to be creative every day this month and I think it's worked. I've been exercising my imagination a lot more than I usually do and having a lot of fun while doing it. And I've been getting so much better at not being so much of a perfectionist! The time constraint really allowed me to accept that my first draft is going to be shitty. And that's okay!

But here are some updates

  1. James got the student's file and read it and everything just clicked
  2. Also, he may or may not be a little bit in love with Elliot
  3. And he's also realized that if the student is real, that means that he has some sort of way to escape. He'll be okay
  4. But, on the other hand, while running through the woods around Edgewater, James and Elliot ran into a sort of Coraline situation where they ran in a straight line and just ended up back where they started so who knows? James certainly doesn't.
  5. I'm just loving making the setting grow more and more unsettling as time goes on >:) especially the forestttt

WTRL Character Intro: Phoebe Dale

Description: Phoebe could tell you about a million things about Maine’s local insect life, recite Darwin’s theory of evolution from memory, or the best way to care for your plants, but could not, for the life of her, talk about herself. There are more interesting things to talk about than Phoebe Dale, so she doesn’t even bother most times. What’s the point in learning about her when there’s so much out there that’s just so much more interesting. Of course, getting caught up in the zombie apocalypse makes things difficult, both with Phoebe’s insatiable curiosity about the zombies themselves, but also the fact that, as she soon discovers, being stuck with three other people for the the rest of their foreseeable futures means that Phoebe can’t rely on biological small talk. It means that, at some point, she’s going to have to face herself.

Description: Nate’s spent all of high school dreading the day all of his friends will leave town for their prospective career paths, terrified that he’ll never see them again. In a way, his wish to never lose them is granted, albeit as if its a cruel prank. But Nate’s never been one to pass up on an opportunity. And even as it gets harder to keep pushing, he knows there just has to be a light at the end of their tenuous journey, because if not, he’s not sure what he’d do with himself. Escape is only good if you have somewhere to escape to, and Nate’s not so sure he’s one the right place yet.

WIP (re)intro: Highway to Hell

Yes, I know it’s the name of an AC/DC song. No, I do not currently have the mental capacity to come up with a better title, so y’all are stuck with this one for now.

I’ve had a lot more time (and inspiration!) to write lately, so I decided to properly introduce my main WIP, Highway to Hell, or H2H as I often refer to it. It’s probably my oldest WIP as I’ve been working on it for a little over a year, which might not seem that long, but for me, the king of abandoning projects after like two weeks, it’s a record. So, since I’ve managed to pants my way into an actual plot in this one, here’s my introduction!

The Basics:

Working Title: Highway to Hell
Genre: Supernatural Comedy
Features: Demons and Angels and Cryptids, oh my!, lots of characters who are LGBTQ and POC, a sapphic love story (but not romance as the whole plot), found family, an epic road trip, and much, much more.
POV: First Person, present tense
Status: 1st Draft Completed!
Warnings: Swearing, violence, some gore/body horror and other horror elements

Synopsis: Evelyn Reid doesn’t believe in anything other than herself. It’s a tenet she’s held dear her whole life.

Now, as she walks out of her local corner store, however, not with a cup of coffee but armed with the knowledge of her eternal damnation and with an overly pretentious demon in tow, it’s getting harder and harder to deny the fact that there’s more to her world than meets the eye. Determined to save her own soul, Reid embarks on the road trip of a lifetime, meeting demonic office workers, a rogue guardian angel, and a semi-professional exorcist along the way. Reid’s quest to circumvent the web of fate, however, has much larger consequences than she realizes.
