UPDATING SOON!

Vetted fundraiser masterpost-masterpost

TRY MY NEW DONATION ASK GAME!!! (COMING SOON)

This is a collection of links to various posts concerning fundraisers I've vetted and instructions on how to submit fundraisers to me. These are primarily ones for Ghazzan families although some fundraisers for Sudanese families are also listed (I'm more familiar with my own country's politics and dialect and am more capable of vetting fundraisers for Palestinians as a result).

I know that people do not like clicking on links, but please actually look through the posts / Google Sheet and choose a fundraiser to donate to. Please.

Instructions on how to submit a fundraiser. (for those not Ghazzan) Paused تعليمات لتقديم طلب توثيق و نشر حملات التبرعات الخاصة بالغزاويين و عائلاتهم (للغزاويين فقط) فاتح!

About the targeted harassment campaign against Palestinians on tumblr, from August 2nd to August 3rd 2024. Now extended to August 7th because of writing-prompt-s' and badjokesbyjeff's accusations and slander.

Pinning this to my tumblr today because I'm overwhelmed by the asks I'm getting and can't sort through them all to check if vetted, if any followers want to donate go look through this list. Will try to donate soon.

Do you ever think about how almost all of N’s Pokémon throughout the first games were one offs he released after he battled you, how he cared about them all deeply enough that he thought it would be selfish to have them battle more than necessary. And do you ever think about how this is the case with all his Pokémon EXCEPT his Klinklang in the final battle at the league, where the second to last battle he had a Klink and this Klinklang is very likely that same Pokémon? Do you think this was a visual representation of his mindset wavering from a fixed point? How that Klink refused to leave him right away and he couldn’t bring himself to force them to leave because his mind is in so many different directions? He can keep them around just a little longer until he becomes champion, it won’t be long, he can bend things some so long as he doesn’t fully stray from his path…right?

Or is that just me am I the only one willing to be insane about Klinklang of all Pokémon

Also I should note if this were ever a fic the mental image of N arguing with a sentient pair of gears refusing to part with him is just very funny like

N- “Please…You need to return back to your home. It isn’t right for you to stay with a human like me, I already pushed too much asking for even the most temporary help from you”

Klink- CLKCLKCLKCLKCLKCLKCLKCLKCLK

N- “…I know you’re upset but you don’t need to use such fowl language”

This is a dangerous sentiment for me to express, as an editor who spends most of my working life telling writers to knock it off with the 45-word sentences and the adverbs and tortured metaphors, but I do think we're living through a period of weird pragmatic puritanism in mainstream literary taste.

e.g. I keep seeing people talk about 'purple prose' when they actually mean 'the writer uses vivid and/or metaphorical descriptive language'. I've seen people who present themselves as educators offer some of the best genre writing in western canon as examples of 'purple prose' because it engages strategically in prose-poetry to evoke mood and I guess that's sheer decadence when you could instead say "it was dark and scary outside". But that's not what purple prose means. Purple means the construction of the prose itself gets in the way of conveying meaning. mid-00s horse RPers know what I'm talking about. Cerulean orbs flash'd fire as they turn'd 'pon rollforth land, yonder horizonways. <= if I had to read this when I was 12, you don't get to call Ray Bradbury's prose 'purple'.

I griped on here recently about the prepossession with fictional characters in fictional narratives behaving 'rationally' and 'realistically' as if the sole purpose of a made-up story is to convince you it could have happened. No wonder the epistolary form is having a tumblr renaissance. One million billion arguments and thought experiments about The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas that almost all evade the point of the story: that you can't wriggle out of it. The narrator is telling you how it was, is and will be, and you must confront the dissonances it evokes and digest your discomfort. 'Realistic' begins on the author's terms, that's what gives them the power to reach into your brain and fiddle about until sparks happen. You kind of have to trust the process a little bit.

This ultra-orthodox attitude to writing shares a lot of common ground with the tight, tight commodification of art in online spaces. And I mean commodification in the truest sense - the reconstruction of the thing to maximise its capacity to interface with markets. Form and function are overwhelmingly privileged over cloudy ideas like meaning, intent and possibility, because you can apply a sliding value scale to the material aspects of a work. But you can't charge extra for 'more challenging conceptual response to the milieu' in a commission drive. So that shit becomes vestigial. It isn't valued, it isn't taught, so eventually it isn't sought out. At best it's mystified as part of a given writer/artist's 'talent', but either way it grows incumbent on the individual to care enough about that kind of skill to cultivate it.

And it's risky, because unmeasurables come with the possibility of rejection or failure. Drop in too many allegorical descriptions of the rose garden and someone will decide your prose is 'purple' and unserious. A lot of online audiences seem to be terrified of being considered pretentious in their tastes. That creates a real unwillingness to step out into discursive spaces where you 🫵 are expected to develop and explore a personal relationship with each element of a work. No guard rails, no right answers. Word of god is shit to us out here. But fear of getting that kind of analysis wrong makes people hove to work that slavishly explains itself on every page. And I'm left wondering, what's the point of art that leads every single participant to the same conclusion? See Spot run. Run, Spot, run. Down the rollforth land, yonder horizonways. I just want to read more weird stuff.

Do wild wonderful things. It’s worth it. I promise.

Carvey Comix

WOWZA! I guess I should introduce him formally... everyone say "hello" to the dog that sweats (The comments some of you are leaving surely isn't helping with that...)

Carvey is a character I made a year ago while watching Bob Newhart and wondering what he'd look like as a dog, and, well...

Some Carvey Facts:

• He loves cereal! (because he's got no gas in his apartment to cook on his stove).

• Someone called him "Paul Sigh-mon" once and that was the best compliment he had ever received.

• He has a kid who he doesn't get to see often, and is too scared to tell him about his genetic hairline.

• He can dance, even if you don't want him to.

• Thinks his wacky tie collection isn't anything to boast about, really... but he does have a whopping 4 of them... he's working on it.

This is your reminder that without eSims, many people in Gaza cannot reach the rest of the world. To their loved ones overseas to the people who have donated to their fundraisers hoping to keep them alive. The Israeli government has issued repeated communications blackouts, trying to cut us off from Gaza. Even when there are not "official" blackouts, telecommunications are dangerous; Palestinians like Medo have died in makeshift tent cafes trying to access the internet and reach us. In Gaza, infrastructure has been severely damaged, despite the brave and hard work of people in Paltel on the ground. Do not think that because you read a headline about a communications blackout ending, eSims are not needed; Israel has already laid groundwork to cut Gazans off from the world - eSims work independent from the Israeli government and can provide data and phone service, an essential lifeline.

If the process of donating an eSim yourself seems daunting, you can contribute to the Crips for eSims fund directly here:

"haunting the narrative" is one of those phrases i wanna put up on a shelf. not all characters that are dead haunt the narrative. not all characters that are dead haunt the narrative. not all characters that haunt the narrative are dead.

a character who haunts the narrative is a character whose presence in the story itself is sparse to none (!!!!!) but whose actions have major consequences to the story and help to build the theme of the work (!!!!!!!!!) if blorbo blingus doesnt tick both these boxes then im sorry. they are not haunting the narrative. they just died.

I keep getting tiktoks of people complaining about the existence of trans man lesbians and yes I could reply "read stone Butch blues" or talk about my experiences but like...all I can think is oh my god why do you care

In America ALONE, we are watching as Trump continues to appoint Project 2025 heads to his cabinet, PETA is creating a psyop so people ignore the ICE raids on meat packing plants, and the world is fucking burning. There is a rise of right wing ideologies worldwide currently, you are going to be up to your head in the tar pit still screaming about queer identities aren't you?

Idk how you assholes can still have the urge to play Gay Gatekeeping when we are looking down at barrel. Fucking useless.
