my name is casey and this is just an alt for me to post about homestuck and fandom stuff!
ill probably just be posting random thoughts or reblogging art, feel free to follow and send questions!
some basic interests/believes of mine:
something i noticed with the hs fandom is that a lot of people are open to the idea that "homestuck is bad"... buuuuuuuut when you start giving out reasons why it is, many get defensive or outright angry. i suppose a lot of them follow the logic that "if everything is bad, then nothing is" which makes arguments about their favorite character, moment, panel, or animation null. makes it hard to have discussions since a lot of people just don't care and just want to play house with silly characters.
I like John, he has a lot of really funny goofy conversations with his friends filled with dumb injokes, memes, concern, and a sarcastic tint while still maintaining a hint of being geniune.
John is awesome. John is based.
did you really have to skinny white girlify jane, terezi and roxy
in a fandom that's honestly been so interpretation/headcanon/fanon heavy, it's just freaking insane how judgemental people are over other's portrayals of the characters. not to mention many people who are judgemental of other's interpretations would most likely be angry if their own were judged for whatever the majority may find better. it gets crazier when you take into account that official sources themselves are completely inconsistent with the portrayals of the characters, which are you supposed to chose? the ones from the comic? the one from a specific spinoff? or an arbitrary fandom wide concept that's no where in any official content?
it's kinda sad both sides of nepeta fans are contradictive to one another. the side that wants her to be a cute adorable cat girl who's quirky and silly vs the side that wants her to be a cool and in-charge strong wild hunter. mainly bc i usually see one side trying to invalidate the other, but it doesn't have to be that way? having these aspects of nepeta's personality co-existing is a good idea because it gives her character more depth and shows she changes depending on the situation, making a more realistic and relatable character, this is how actual cats are after all, they can be cute, cuddly and silly one moment but turn around and be focused, aggressive and intelligent hunters. let her be cute but wild! let her be clever but sometimes silly and quirky!

thought about rosemaru (I don't like this ship)
i think rosemary is okay as a couple i dont think theyre inherently bad together, but they were very poorly written in the story, act 6 has a huge problem with making the beta kids ooc rose and dave being the ones who suffer from the worst of it...
rose being an incompetent drunk for a lot of it wasnt endearing nor did it help to build her connection with kanaya and kanaya herself lost a lot of her own personality to just being "the lesbian" who thought about rose and how rose saw things and how rose would do things rather than having her own perspective on things like she did before.
it's fine if she changed as a result of being with rose but it was really sad that slowly a lot of her personality just turned into her having relationship woes with rose as it seemed that was what she was trying to escape from (after the woes she had with vriska).
their development was rushed and felt like it was being pushed by the fanbase due to the fact that was the popular couple everyone wanted and we needed to get that kiss and confirmation that they're together, it's weird to think that their relationship was more fun when they were friends who tried to find out how to snark at eachother most effectively.
i dont think i even need to mention how poorly post canon has treated rose and kanaya either, it's like the most tragic thing that couldve happened to anyone's ship, having one timeline where rose abandons kanaya to leave on a weird quest with her dad, leaving kanaya heartbroken and simply longing for her, while on the other rose out right cheats on kanaya and attempts to somehow justify it while kan is clearly hurt and betrayed... i feel bad for rosemary shippers on that regard :<
what are your thoughts about the alpha kids? i was writing a whole analysis on why all of them are kind of a disappointment in regards of their resemblance to the beta guardians and their chemistry as friends compared to the beta kids but i got suuuuper mentally tired just remembering all the ridiculously dumb stuff they go through in act 6 u-u also i legit do not get why anyone likes dirk strider.............
Everyone liked Dirk Strider cause gay and had wanted a Strider that was gay before Davekat started to become a thing. They definitely got wasted on development due to shitty writing and drama. Hussie really played up the shipping drama meta narrative too much that it becomes insufferable. The only reason people like or bother with Alpha Kids in present times is because of either small moments from within the comic that make them look cool/funny, porn, or representation (be it Roxy being lesbians or Jane being fat). Nobody gives a shit about their core personality or growth as people. Andrew Hussie and people try to claim it was a SUBVERSION like Jake is an idiot despite all the buildup of him being this cool genius, but that point, why even show it in the first fucking place just to say PSYCHE! YOU ARE AN IDIOT FOR THINKING THIS WAS TRUE!! It's not a funny trolling, just a dick trolling. I can get if the Alpha Kids aren't exactly like their guardian counterparts, but then it raises the question couldn't their session, even a void one, have them learn to grow up and mature to be like the guardians?
I agree that "skip to the trolls" is where things started to decay for the fandom, but act 6 is where everything just died. "Skip to act 5" is kind of like when leaves on trees start to turn from green to yellow, The alpha kids taking over the fandom's focus was where the trees started to actually lose their leaves. The epilogues are when all the leaves on the trees fell off and you're just left with rot and a dead trunk.
yes! this is the perfect analogy for it! and honestly hsbc is just the festering fungus and insects feeding on the remains of the tree... maybe someday from the fertile soil left behind we will grow another beautiful tree, but the future seems grim for homestuck at the moment :(

it's kind of funny to imagine the kids all being paper white raceless blobs because they have no true ancestry and are made of paradoxical time goop, they'd be like their own species of blob people that just happens to resemble humans.

i don't personally like any of the incest ones, i know a lot of people in the fanbase are still really attached to them (specially early fans who disliked the ecto biology plot-twist), but aside from the incest making me uncomfortable, i always thought john and rose/jade and dave had more chemistry with each other!
Grimdorks is great but why did you ALSO have to be a proshipper? Why did you have to like my otp AND be repulsive as fuck. You do know you regularly reblog and like posts from pedophiles, right?
as someone who's been harassed in the past because of "moral reasons" for shipping grimdorks, it's almost logical to assume i would be against harassing people over silly fiction that you can block and ignore. mind you, sexual content is generally distasteful for me and i don't really engage with it, but i also think it's ridiculous to harass people over it. also labeling people you don't like something as serious as that isn't helping anyone who's a victim of those terrible things.
i feel like homestuck began to decay was when the whole "skip to the trolls" sentiment started, it may just be me, but skipping a HUGE chunk of the story just because you don't think it's as interesting as "huehue silli alien relationship drama" is insane??? plus like... does act 5 make ANY SENSE without the previous 4? personally i've always been able to make it through those acts real fast, there's not a ton of text, it's easy to read and it mostly tells the story through subtle hints on the pictures! which is why i'm sort of pointing out this was the "start of the decay", the first troll sections are mainly what birthed this idea that homestuck was overly long dialogue and expository text, instead of fun and wholesome character interactions or awesome illustrations with lots of lore details and silly pictures of the characters being funny, this idea ended up getting carried over to act 6 and it became sooooo much worst in post canon to the point the epilogues didn't even have any damn pictures! plus it based itself just on the melodrama and pretentious narrative that was never a part of homestuck and people just made up to feel smart. mind you, I'm not saying act 5-1 is horribly bad or at fault for it, at the time it just felt like a bump in the road because act 5-2 manages to bring almost everything home spectacularly, but mainly that the misinterpretation of homestuck as a whole and the idea that acts 1-4 are unecessary and you should just "skip to the trolls" because THAT'S where the interesting story is is what ended up causing the themes and narrative to switch towards focusing on relationship issues and melodrama in act 6, then to overly complex metanarrative and annoying philosophical discussions in post canon that came out of nowhere.

I love your artwork, you have some real talent. And Grimdorks is a great ship, top teir stuff. JohnDave is my OTP but I always thought Rose and John ending up together was the most fitting ship for John in actual canon so it holds a special place in my heart. Thanks for sharing your art works with us and your ship. I saw someone send you an ask about how you're being homophobic and whatever else, it made me roll my eyes. I know that fandom is filled with people who put their own headcanons, ships and whatever first and want everyone else to play by their made-up rules, but don't let that squash your spirit. Keep on keeping on!
thank you so much! im glad you enjoy my content, i love johndave a whole lot too i might post some art of them one day! ive been in this fandom for years now and i'm used to their hateful ways to be honest, it's pretty sad but i try to be reasonable and explain myself in the kindest way i can so maybe i will help others understand and at least remain civil! doesn't always work of course, some people will always be bitter no matter what, but id rather stay peppy myself and not let others pull me down :D
