I went to the April show at The Roundhouse in Camden, my first time at the venue. Vistas kicked off the show with their high energy tunes and that got a mosh pit going early doors, they’re a great band and one I’d highly recommend. They were followed by The Night Cafe, whose music I do like, but they’re a bit more low key and in my opinion should have opened the show, with the Vistas then taking things up a notch.
By the time Circa Waves came on, the place had really filled up. They played a great set, cherry picking from their more uptempo tracks, which was just as well I think as they had to keep the energy going that Vistas created. The crowd lapped it up and there was plenty of jumping and moshing going on, unfortunately there were a lot of drinks being thrown which can be really annoying. There were some gig goers that clearly don’t get out much, I had a couple behind me that were getting fed up because I kept backing in to them, but to be fair, I was just jumping with the crowd and sometimes you can’t avoid bumping into people, and if this bothers you, then you should stand further back, this stuff happens at gigs grandad.
Overall, great gig and I’d recommend going to see them.
Circa Waves have gone from playing small room venues to main festival stages and it has barely been a year since they released their debut 'Get Away/Good For Me' E.P. The quick transition was undoubtedly boosted by an opening slot on this year's NME awards tour in-between. It's short and snappy indie pop music by definition, with infectious choruses and catchy "ooh"s in tracks like 'Good For Me' coming to life in a concert setting. Essentially, they sound like a less moody, equally as poppy The Vaccines with the bounciness of Vampire Weekend. The formula of swirling guitar riffs and easy to sing a long to song lyrics create the perfect indie pop gig, no matter the size of their crowd. I first saw them last year performing to a small but excited audience at Nottingham's Bodega and it was clear from that debut tour that they were ready to be big indie music players. Then, at Rock City, the Liverpool based four piece opened the NME awards tour, playing to a much bigger audience and debuting new single 'Stuck In Your Teeth' which was a highlight. Performing before the likes of Temples, Palma Violets and Peace, I felt that they gave one of the best shows of the evening!
Was looking forward to see these lads for ages and they did not disappoint. Charismatic, energetic,charming and lively are a few words to describe these Merseyside lads. Even with their set being interrupted by a power cut they still won the crowd back with fan favourites like T-Shirt Weather along with the Lead singer's energy and scouse sense of humour. Best thing to come out of Merseyside music since the Coral who they did well to build up to. Boss Band!
I was so excited to see Circa Waves, as I am a long-time fan and I was not disappointed! The band sounded great and some tracks sounded even better than they do recorded. They played a great mix of songs from their first and second albums and kept the setlist interesting. Every band member was very interactive with the crowd and it was overall just a great show in an awesome venue (Mercury Lounge). I would definitely see them again!
It was a small acoustic set but they absolutely nailed it!! Every song performed was up to record standard especially their performance of times won’t change which I wondered if they could pull off the acoustic. They absolutely did. Their individual personalities all cane across, and they were so friendly and greatful towards the fans. Incredible evening!
Incredible atmosphere. Fantastic vibe and great band who really know how to work the crowd! One of the best gigs i've ever been too. Can't wait to see Circa Waves again. You should go - they won't disappoint! :-) Me & my girlfriend haven't stopped singing their songs since we went!
An epic gig! However, Circa Waves crowds are notoriously wild and instead of moshing there are quite a few moments of just pushing. Music was amazing though, the supports were incredible in themselves and the venue is great. All in all, would definitely recommend Circa Waves!
Great show, great band.
These guys definitely deserve better/bigger venues (no offense Backstage Halle) -they also spent some time with fans having a drink, signing autographs and taking pictures.
Must also be mentioned the very nice opening act by Boniface.
I really enjoyed the concert! The boys were really good live and the crowd was really nice, I didn't like the second opening act though but it was only me probably :D but these guys are really really good live! Hope I'm going to see them again someday!
Fabulous night,the academy was bouncing.Set list fantastic,songs full of energy and passion,Circa Waves are a top,top band...don't hesitate to go and see them!! Wonderful support from In Heaven and Magic Gang,worth every penny,superb night out...
