Daniel Stein (born April 11th, 1977), better known by his stage name of DJ Fresh, is an English electronic music producer and DJ.
Fresh made his name in the electronic genre primarily through his work in the drum and bass subsection of the genre, initially as one of the most prominent members of the supergroup Bad Comapny - he was joined by Darren 'dBridge' White, Jason Maldini and Michael ‘Vegas’ Wojcicki. Between them, the members of Bad Company started up their own label, BC Recordings, which would go on to become one of the most influential imprints of all time in the drum and bass community.
It’s a community that’s in no real doubt about the influence of both Bad Company and Fresh himself – revered magazine The Knowledge ranked the Bad Company track ‘The Nine’ as the greatest R&B cut of all time. Fresh was just 21 when that song dropped in 1998, and it was a few years before Fresh broke away from the group dynamic firmly enough to launch a solo career – his first album, ‘Escape from Planet Monday’, was released in 2006.
Despite being D&B royalty, though, it would be another few years before Fresh genuinely tasted mainstream success, when the first single from album number two ‘Nextlevelism’, ‘Louder’, became the first ever dubstep track to top the UK charts. He followed that up with a second number one, his collaboration with Rita Ora, ‘Hot Right Now’.

From his humble beginnings in a seaside town in Sussex, Fresh has taken the world of electronica by storm, and cemented his place in history by releasing both the UK's first dubstep number 1 ("Louder") and first drum and bass number 1 ("Hot Right Now"), both from his album 'Nextlevelism.' With a critically and commercially successful back catalogue that includes releases with drum and bass supergroup Bad Company, you'd think DJ Fresh could run a successful show just by playing through his old hits without any major production. Attend a concert, however, and you'll see that DJ Fresh brings the attention to detail and craft that catapults his tracks up the charts to every aspect of the live show. While the man himself is stationed at a keyboard/vocoder rig, he brings in a live band to play bass, guitar and electronic drums, and even brings out an acoustic guitar for a tender reworking of his hit "Louder." Fresh's dance tracks are replicated live, and the show feels all the better for it. The DJ brings in vocalists that lead the crowd in call and response, he mixes up the set with old and new originals performed alongside reworked covers of popular songs. He gets the crowd screaming, jumping, singing and feeling every throb of the beat. Out in the crowd, it takes everything you've got not to get worked into a frenzy by the songs, but letting yourself go is exhilarating, and you're in safe hands with DJ Fresh.
Appearing seemingly from nowhere at all Daniel Stein, better known now internationally as DJ Fresh has not taken a break from the road since his single 'Louder' broke in 2011. Most are unaware that Dan has been releasing music as DJ Fresh since way back in 2004 yet when you watch his live show, all this experience is totally evident.
He mixes like a true professional and at lightning speeds in order to keep the crowds entertained throughout the show. Regardless of the venue, Dan brings an air of sophistication and exclusivity of the biggest dance clubs of London and Ibiza which goes over brilliantly with the dance crazy fans. There are leanings towards pop, dance and house with a number of guest vocalists to help hype up the audience even more. It culminates towards a back to back finale of two #1 hits 'Hot Right Now' and 'Louder'. It goes over absolutely fantastically and the lights illuminate the whole roaring crowd beneath DJ Fresh's mixing decks as the main man is beaming from ear to ear at the sight.
DJ Fresh has taken the electronic music industry by storm, shaking up its foundations with hits such as ‘Earthquake’ (aptly named) and ‘Hot Right Now’ featuring pop sensation Rita Ora. The British born DJ and electronic music producer, born Daniel Stein, is now one of the biggest names in the music scene right now thanks to a whole array of huge party and dance hits. He has collaborated with some huge names in the industry and has an energetic, fresh and cool sound that I dare you not to dance wildly for. Stein has performed at several huge festivals and I was lucky enough to catch him at Isle of Wight, performing in front of a crowd of thousands. Crammed into a heaving mass of sweaty teenage bodies, DJ Fresh lit up the crowd and drove us crazy. The light show, the heavy beats and the general atmosphere that he evoked was incredible. With hits such as ‘Louder’ and ‘Gravity’, it is no wonder the DJ is so hot right now (get it?).
