Hedley is a group who treats emotivity with the same regard as they reserve for pop melody. Their blend of snarky punk is laced with cathy choruses and upbeat tempos that would have them placed in a camp alongside pop punk mainstays like SR-71, Simple Plan, and Good Charlotte.
Hedley formed in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada in 2003 and initially consisted of members Jacob Hoggard, Kevin Giesbrecht, Kevin Heeres, Ryan Federau, and Brandon McKay. Hoggard is the only original member currently in the group and has since gained recognition as a solo artist through a stint on Canadian Idol.
In 2005 Hedley issued their 1st single “On My Own” , which shot to the No.1 position on the Canadian Singles Chart. The group’s successive singles such as “Trip”, “321”, and “Gunnin” also did remarkably well on the charts. All of these singles appeared on their popular self-titled studio debut. It was released through Universal Music Canada in Canada and through Capitol Records in the US. Though the album struggled to chart in the US it entered the Canadian Album charts at No. 3 and has since achieved Platinum status. Their 2nd album “Famous Last Words” only took ten days to reach platinum status and was supported with a two wing tour, which first saw them opening for Bon Jovi on their Lost Highway Tour and secondly found them headlining with State of Shock as the opener.
Hedley’s 3rd studio album “The Show Must Go” came out on 17 November 2009 and sported the three singles “Cha-Ching”, “Don’t Talk to Strangers”, and “Perfect”, all which broke into the top 20 on the Canadian singles chart. Following the album’s release Hedley went on an extensive two leg Canadian tour, which included a total of 39 shows and featured support from Fefe Dobson, Stereos, Boys Like Girls, Faber Drive, These Kids Crowns, and Lights.
The single “Invincible” spurred Hedley’s 4th studio album “Storms”, which saw release on 8 November 2011. “Storms” is considered the group’s most sonically diverse album as well as their most blatantly pop. It was the group’s biggest success, appearing at No.2 on the Canadian Album Charts and winning the 2012 Juno award for Best Pop Album. The group’s follow up “Wild Life” was a hit in Canada as well, earning them the No. 4 spot on the charts. By the time of this release the group’s personnel was made up of Dave Rosin (guitar), Tommy Mac (bass), and Chris Crippin (drums).
Leia maisHedley is a popular Canadian Pop/Rock band. Jacob Hoggard, the band's front man, was originally in Canadian Idol, which helped draw exposure to the band. They wear very cool looking clothes. Most of their popular songs seem to be ballads. Their songs make me feel a lot of emotions.
I loved them when I was still in high school, which was about 5 years ago. Their songs make me think about my youth. They make me think of fun times with my friends. The song "Perfect", makes me think about my first relationship. It talks about how he is not perfect, but he keeps trying. My first relationship was very dysfunctional, and I remember constantly playing this song. It always made me think about how my boyfriend at the time never made me feel good enough. These songs bring back good and bad memories.
"For the nights I can't remember", is a ballad that talks about good times. It reminds me of drinking wine coolers with my friends and eating munchies. This band is my childhood, and it really makes me think about that time in my life. Even though not every memory is good, it's still nice to remember.
It has been historically quite difficult to toe the line between the genres of pop and rock. Should you make music that seems to upbeat and radio friendly you alienate the rock fans and should you make music that relies too heavily on huge guitar riffs and thumping drums then you threaten your radio commerciality. Any band who has ever had issues with this dilemma should look towards the discography of Canadian quartet Hedley who seem to have found the balance perfectly.
Their music often even manages to incorporate techniques associated with the genre of punk yet the choruses remain melodic and anthemic so they never lose the crowd as they are waiting to sing along with lead vocalist Jacob Hoggard. With a huge string of hits from across their career that spans just over a decade, they keep the pace high, the volume loud and the anthems coming thick and fast with the likes of 'Never Too Late'
'Perfect' and 'Kiss You Inside Out' all creating real moments.
Best concert ever I've seen them live 7 times this year and every show did nothing but impress pop rock punk band they have something for everyone supporting this band also goes to the we foundation and free the children the band uses their music to make a difference!support these Canadians!
Hedley was amazing! They had a long setlist, which ranged from a good mix of old and new songs. All members of the band had high energy and certainly were dedicated to their carrer. I have been to 3 Hedley shows and this had definately been my favourite! 10/10!!!!
Hedley was amazing in concert!! They put on a great show and are super interactive!! Would definitely go again the only thing was they made one of their old songs (my favourite) into a pop version which I didn't really like but overall the show was amazing!
The concert was amazing. I loved it and they did really well at making sure they went to every side of the stage. The only thing I would like is if they throw the t-shirts in all directions instead of just straight.
You guys were absolutely amazing last night!! Best concert I've ever been to! My nephew and I were celebrating our birthdays with you guys last night and must say it was the perfect birthday gift! You guys rock!
Amazing talent! Seen them in Halifax. These guys put on such a good show. There were people of all ages singing and dancing to their songs. Love all of their songs. Would definitely go see them again!!
It was amazing. Jake is such a good entertainer from singing to pulling a kid up on stage to marking out with a girl in front row. We were laughing and singing the whole time. Great concert.
Hi guys, loved your show in Halifax the other night.My husband said next time we go we are making a poster that says "HEDLEYFAX" love you guys..can't wait to see has for the 5th time!
