The Enemy are an English rock band from Coventry who formed in 2006 and currently consists of Tom Clarke, Liam Watts and Andy Hopkins.
The band found their feet gigging the Coventry circuit in the early days of their formation, Hopkins and Watts originate from Coventry whilst Clarke is from neighbouring Birmingham. In 2006 they opened the Godiva Festival and progressed to headliners two years later. The band were given a lot of attention ahead of their debut album release, with NME tipping them as ones to watch for 2007. They were soon recruited by indie heavyweights such as Oasis, The Fratellis, Kasabian and Manic Street Preachers as support acts for their tours.
This simply elevated their reputation further and landed the band slots at Glastonbury festival and T in the Park that summer, where they headlined the Futures stage. The debut album 'We'll Live And Die In These Towns' was released in the summer of 2007 and topped the UK charts. The successes continued in 2008 as the boys sold out two nights at the Ricoh Arena in their hometown of Coventry and also headlined the 30,000 capacity Godiva Festival. The second album 'Music for the People' debuted at #2 on the UK charts behind Bob Dylan, it once again received mixed reviews from critics who noted the band's vast array of influences often become complicated and messy. However it was a clear hit with the fans, now holding a platinum selling certificate.
After intense touring to promote the second album, the band took respite for two years to begin planning a follow-up, only breaking their silence to play a handful of secret shows. 'Streets in the Sky' came in 2012 and the band performed two shows at The Kasbah in Coventry on the day of release. It was critically slaughtered as a release with many publications labelling the album bland and generic yet it still debuted within the top 10 on the UK album charts.
Leia maisAs Faris Badwan of The Horrors put it, a few years ago at the NME Awards when presenting them with a gong, “you’ve got to hand it to these boys. They’re young, they’re hungry, and they’ve defied natural selection.” Badwan’s acerbic wit doesn’t fall far of the mark where The Enemy are concerned; despite being stunningly unoriginal, they nevertheless managed to carve out a laddish fanbase that propelled them to Academy size venues - in some cases, even further - when they released their debut album, We’ll Live and Die in These Towns. Their second album, though, turned out to be both ablessing and a curse for the band; on the one hand, it elevated them even further, guaranteeing them a coveted spot on Oasis’ final stadium tour of the UK and landing at number two in the charts, but the mind-blowingly brazen nature in which they ripped off other artists on the record effectively pained them as a tribute act, with tracks on the album sounding uncannily similar to the likes of The Clash’s ‘London Calling’ and Pulp’s ‘Common People’. Still, they’ve retained the core of their cult fanbase, and recently toured the UK playing raucous shows that cost just £5 for entry; perhaps they are for the people, after all.

From start to finish the set was an emotional rollercoaster finishing with the Last Goodbye. The played the entirety of debut album We'll live and die in these towns, as well as 3 tracks from their 2nd and 4th albums. Nothing from their 3rd album.
The energy and interaction with the crowd was electric.
If you never saw the Enemy before they called it a day, you've missed out.

Amazing as always! Sad that it's my last ever time seeing The Enemy live and they aren't making music anymore! Had so many great memories watching them and it's been a pleasure! Going to miss them!! The first time I seen them was probably the best gig I've ever been to back in 2012! Last night topped that! Hope to see a reunion in the future!!
