Exceedingly disappointing. I just don't get it. She's got a good catalog. She's clearly talented. But it seems like she's spinning for the ADHD-afflicted: pretty much one 30- to 70-second cut after another. The cuts aren't particularly coherently joined - the tempo-blending is pretty much utterly missing. Just as you're starting to get into a particlar cut, it shifts. Totally dicks up your ability to get into things.
And, no, it's not that tempo change-ups are an innately bad thing. Done right, they can help build a crowd up, hold their tension, or let them cool off a bit before the next energy-swell ...but the artist *has* to be in tune with their crowd and select the cuts to manage the room. The problem is when an artist comes in with a canned set.
When I got home last night, I'd assumed this was another case of an artist using Echostage as a paycheck-stop, rather than putting in an actual effort to create a special evening for that evening's crowd. However, doing a quick look back at videos posted of her 2018 shows, it looks like she's decided that 2018 is the year everyone gets to hear basically the same show, every night, no matter the city. Primary difference seems to be the cut-lengths rather than the cut-selection or cut-ordering. So, yeah, probably not a lot to be gained in trying to see her back-to-back if she's doing consecutive nights like she is in DC this weekend.
Any way, dunno, maybe my memory's just jacked. Maybe this is the way she's always been, but I could swear that previous to this year, she put on more coherent shows and managed the room better. All I know is, when I looked around the room, last night, it didn't *look* like a great show. While there were pockets of people that were clearly into her set far more than I was, it wasn't the ENTIRE room being engaged the way it is at most other shows (or festivals) I go to.
I saw her at The Fonda in Hollywood and she was absolutely amazing! Her set had great variety while maintaining her very unique style. I love how much of her own music she plays (pretty much all of it) but manages to play it or mix it in a way that makes you feel like you're hearing it for the first time all over again. Along with her amazing song choice and set progression, everything is tied together beautifully with a heavy dose of her personality over the mic and her actively infectious stage presence as she bounces around, genuinely enjoying the evening she shares with you. Lastly, something must be said about her talent on the decks. For anyone who doubts that she knows what she's doing, her hands are projected on screen throughout the entire set while she works her ass off. Overall this set was amazing and I'd love to see her again. This absolutely makes up for missing 90% of her set at EDC LV 2015.
I've been following her, before she even became mainstream. Saw her at the bluebird in Denver. It's a small venue...was one of the best shows I've ever seen (and I have seen A LOT!!)I enjoy her sets at festivals as well .. definitely gets the crowd going. However,if you can see her in a small venue...it's more intimate, and she completely engages with her fans!!!
10/10 so good live, I was completely unprepared to how good she'd be. I love all my Echostage shows, but this one was far out one of the best ever. Good vibes, good people, good music, would definitely see her again.
The show was phenomenal. Exceeded expectations. Would definitely see her again. Maybe a bigger venue next time. I definitely enjoyed myself, but I had to drive from South Florida because there wasn't a show there.
incredible show! from the lights, to the live cello, to the music itself. Echostage is an amazing venue, and Alison Wonderland is an amazing artist. I would definitely recommend seeing her live.
Played a 1.5 hour set. Played her music and even spoke to some of the songs that reflected who she is. She even sang one of her songs as well. I enjoyed her show and would see her again.
Took an hour and a half to get in. Rude staff and absolutely packed club. Other than that it was awesome. Also they put stickers on your camera as they have a no phone policy.
Alison got some dope mixes! Concert was lit as hell and everyone was dancing like crazy! Hell of a night and show! I'm definitely looking out for her next tour!
3rd time seeing her. Soo gud, she Broke tho floor of an expensive hotel, true story.. when i die i hope its being crushed by floor collapse at her show X] <3
