• The Staple Singers were an American Gospel, Soul, and R&B group. Their most memorable hits were Respect Yourself and I'll Take You There. Those lucky enough to hear them perform it in 1999 at the Hall of Fame induction ceremony got a treat. It was a smooth, mellow performance of some of the greatest soul music ever written. Even at a ripe age they were still ready to give it their all and they did. They clapped, they danced, and they sang their way into the hearts of those who already loved them and a new generation at the same time.Dressed to the nines in their Sunday finest they put on one of their finest performances too. The audience was clapping, singing along, and loving it. All the pomp and circumstance of a ceremony was not nearly as important as hearing one of the most important R&B groups of all time perform one of their last shows. As their lyrics stated, "feeling pretty good now", and the audience was feeling it. It was a historic performance of smooth, soulful music and they brought the audience into this historic moment just as much as they did themselves. It was not to be missed.
