  • The Dead South

Saw TDS last night at the Knitting Factory in Spokane-It was the very best show I have been to in a long time! The energy was high and the crowd threw the energy back to the band-everyone foot stomping, dancing (even some swing dancing), clapping, yelling and some good old screaming! TDS has a wide appeal and it showed in the crowd-all ages were there. TDS' Stage set and light show was stellar-Four large leaded glass windows with each of the guys' personal moniker on them were behind each band member. They had really large old style lanterns in front of the mic stands that made a cool glow, coupled with the fog and laser lights made a very visually satisfying watch. The guys brought a great time-

Danny had a big smile the whole set. Of course Nate & Scott sang so great! The sound was fantastic-so great to hear them live after watching them on Youtube for the last few years-A live album or Live Video production would be really great to see in the future. We arrived a bit too late to really get to hear Elliot Brood-But there was a middle band-I wish I had their name! A 3-piece of older fellas that really rocked out! I really enjoyed there music! The lead guy wore a white Canadian Mountie type hat. I would love to get their name if anyone knows who they are...they were quite impressive! The whole show was Five stars!!! Would do again! Thank you TDS for coming to Spokane!-Love ya! SpokaneSandi

  • Great show last night in what was surprisingly an excellent venue!? (Merritton Legion, Niagara) The Dead South are a great band with a cohesion that's very apparent...I counted 11 guitar strings replaced on two guitar's over the course of the show (They 'went hard'). They played that hall for 3 hours with a short break, and even when on break they were working (selling swag, cd's {they'll sign them too}, or hydrating {beers were flowing.})

The show was sold out, place was packed, laughing, dancing, cheering...The Dead South left me with the impression that not only were they there to entertain us (which they did), but were also there to be entertained by us. They like what they do. At least that's the impression that I get.

I dislike categories and this band is a good example as to why:

Blue Grass? Nope; well, sort of? I'm not a fan of Blue Grass...this is different.

So folk music then? Nope; well, there was that one tune...look, there's a cello, a banjo, a kick drum, a mandolin, and a couple of guitars. Masterfully mix that up with all 4 being expert vocalists in their own right, season with something that you'd swear comes from Kentucky or Tennessee, add a healthy dose of Canadian humour, and that is how I would explain the Dead South.

Highly recommended, and if Europe doesn't keep them, I'd pay to see and hear them again.

  • American Legion - Mattoon, Illinois 6 May 2018: They have grown so much in popularity and demand that we can't afford to have them back and they really didn't want to play this time because it didn't pay enough. However, watching the sold out show you couldn't tell. I am thrilled I got see them in a small venue like the American Legion. They came out and played a great set like the professionals that they are. Aside from a small sound problem they basically played hard and nonstop. This is a very tight and energetic group. I left wanting more like any other good concert I've been to. The next time I see them I will have to travel... No problem. I would think they would be tired of all the traveling. This concert was after about a week straight playing a concert every day and two concerts a day for two days right before here on a Sunday afternoon with more scheduled Monday and Tuesday. You can't say this group does not work. I can't wait for more from this group.

  • The concert would have been great if they had not used an opening band from Red Deer that showed neither promise nor any true talent. This opening band ruined the event.

The venue is another concern. There was little seating available and the concrete floors and deafening volume made the concert not only uncomfortable but tedious. The event started 15 minutes late and the opening band was lackluster in their meager effort to entertain the crowd.

The four people in attendance were forced to leave before the main performers ever made it to the stage due to space constraints, drunken revelers and a miserable opening band.

I would strongly suggest that if you are ever going to see the Dead South please ensure they are at a different venue as the SAIT Gateway Lounge does the performers a disservice by merely attempting to house such a talented group

  • From Banjo Odyssey to Travelin' Man, and everything in between, The Dead South were dead on! The event, hosted by Big Rock, was a barn burner of epic proportions and didn't disappoint the sold out audience. It was my first time seeing the band and there were very few songs that were missed from the library. It seemed that most of the crowd, including myself, knew all the words to all the songs and enjoyed every one of them. Can't wait to see them again at the October show. The warm up act of Whitehorse was a extremely pleasant surprise for myself. I was expecting some mellow folk and got a blistering set of fantastic songs that left me wanting more. The highlight for myself was a great cover of the Neil Young classic Ohio.

  • We had such a good time at The Dead South gig, we came over from Ireland to see them and it was totally worth it. When we got to the venue, we were walking round looking for the entrance and we bumped into one of the band members, Scott Pringle. He was really friendly and sweet, which was nice, it would have been a bummer if he'de been an asshole! The venue was good and the crowd was mixed, which I liked, all ages and all kinds of people. Also the band on before them, The Noble Jacks were excellent, all in all it was a great night. Stompy and fun, we are looking forward to seeing them again in Dublin at Vicar St. Very happy to have discovered this gem of a band and would highly recommend anyone to go check them out.

  • The Dead South's (TDS) tour kickoff was unforgettable! My wife, and our friends had a blast dancing along to and being entertained by Beach Bodies & Andino Suns in addition to TDS. We were impressed with all their new artwork merchandise & official tour poster. Can't wait to officially mount it on a wall.

Now if only we could stop playing their new album 'Sugar & Joy' vinyl, I'm getting dizzy from staring at it's "revolutionary" design in a trance state.

Sugar & Joy raises bar for Canadian records.

Can't wait to meet these lads again, the VIP experience was truely unforgettable.

  • You MUST see The Dead South live! Everything about the show was great. They played alot of songs and the crowd really had a good time. The stage props were cool (including the bottles of liqour!)and the lighting effects really added to the atmosphere. The guys really have a good chemistry together and you can tell they have fun performing. It was great to see all the original line-up too. They announced that they would be recording a new album next year, can't wait for it and hope to see them perform on your again. I highly recommend seeing The Dead South if you can!

  • The Dead South was absolutely as expected...totally epic! Love these guys!

There was one thing about the show that I do feel the need to say...the first opening musician was really good...sound was great!

But the band that played prior to the Dead South was impossible to hear. The sound was terrible...could not hear vocals at all sadly...everything was drowned out by the drums. Such a bummer...not only for the audience but also the band...the sound made it sound like just a whole lot of noise.

(Again though...the Dead South were EPIC!)

  • Awesome show, even better than when I saw them last year. Great lighting, great stage play, and great musicians, good mix of old and new songs, cool merch. On stage for around 75 mins and might have been longer if the venue had a later licence. Do not miss these guys.

Unfortunately missed the first support act, as tickets said doors open 7.30 and he had already beena and gone by then, but the Hooten Hallers were also good, a heavy R & B and worth a watch.

All in all a great night, thanks all.
