Biografia

  • Trapt are a hard rock band from Los Gatos, California, US, breaking through into the mainstream charts with their 2003 hit song "Headstrong."

Coming together as friends at high school, the four original members, Chris Taylor Brown (vocals), Peter Charell (bass), David Stege (drums) and Simon Ormandy (guitar) shared similar musical tastes, gravitating towards the heavy rock of Korn, Metallica and Soundgarden. Three of the original members have since left the band, with Chris Taylor Brown and Peter Charell being the only original members left. Having recorded their first demo in 1997, the band began playing at gigs in the suburbs of Southern California, rising quickly in the scene to gain support slots for bands like Papa Roach, Dredg and Spike 1000.

Whilst still completing their studies, Trapt released their second recording, "Amalgamation," their first full length album, in 1999, selling over 900 copies by the end of the year due to their popularity in the local Los Gatos, US, area. This was followed by 2000's "Glimpse" which garnered the attention of record label Immortal, however the band were dropped shortly after.

The band then relocated to Los Angeles, with the members dropping out of school to focus on their music career. This would prove to be a good decision, landing a record deal with Warner Bros. in 2001 following a well-delivered show at a 9/11 benefit concert. Their self-titled major label debut was released in 2002. The album's first single, "Headstrong" was a huge success, reaching numbering on the Billboard Rock chart and number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100. Their second single, "Still Frame" also reached the number one spot on the mainstream rock charts.

In 2005, the band returned with "Someone in Control" which produced three singles, with "Stand Up" being the biggest chart success, reaching number three in the mainstream rock charts. A live album soon followed on Nikki Sixx's label, Eleven Seven, releasing two more albums on the label, "Only Through The Pain" (2008) and "No Apologies." Their fifth album, "Reborn" (2013) became their most ambitious release, incorporating synthesisers and sampling into their sound, creating a more eclectic, metallic rock album.

  • I saw Trapt play a show in California just after their 2002 epynonymous album Trapt was released.

At the time, I was listening to a lot of Soundgarden, Papa Roach, and Spike 1000, which meant that Trapt fit seamlessly into the group. Before I went to the show, the only Trapt song I'd heard was the single and first track on the album, Headstrong, which I enjoyed enough to allow a friend to drag me to the show with him.

The first thing I noticed was that I fit in with the crowd perfectly, because it really was just a hodgepodge of different types of people: punk, hardcore, prep, hipster, you name it.

The second thing that caught my attention was the fact that Chris Taylor (vocals) has an excellent voice. I would contend that he sounds the same live as he does on the album. I didn't know any of the songs, but found that I was really drawn to Stories, which is acoustic and got the crowd singing along, Hollowman, and When All Is Said And Done. There was some moshing, but it wasn't particularly violent.

I was impressed enough to go to the merch table to pick up the album. I haven't listened to any of their newer music, since my tastes have changed, but I still take that album out and play it on repeat a few times a year.

  • The band Trapt have been working together now for two decades and within that time they have gained a loyal following for their anthemic hard rock/alt metal sound. The huge success of their first single 'Headstrong' proved something of a double edged sword for the band as they spent the following years proving the worth of their music having to be constantly compared to the multi-platinum selling track.

You only have to see Trapt perform live though to see the dedication and passion the band has for all of its work. An aggressive rendition of 'Bring It' makes the crowd instantly enthused and excited as they jostle, jump and head bang along with the frenzied Chris Taylor Brown who throws himself from side to side of stage shouting the track through gritted teeth.

This level of ferocity continues from both performer and patron, huge cheers raise the roof during the introduction of early single 'Echo' and by the time the anthemic 'Headstrong' is played the crowd is a sweaty, swirling mess. Trapt prove effortlessly they are far from one hit wonders.

  • I attended The Trapy Show on 8/29 @ The Planet Live Music Factory in Battle Creek Michigan. This is a very small venue witha capacity of about 400. I had seem them before about 8 years ago and have been a die hard fan from the beginning. They had the building shaking with the intensity of their instrumental skills and the lead singer/guitar player was so incredibly awesome! Alot of times with bands that are of that genre the vocalist tends to get overpowered by the Band members behind him but not in this case. His voice was over the top and You could actually understand the lyrics! He did a solo number with just him & his guitar that was incredible! They were very appreciative of the fans and thanked us several times for supporting them. I would see tehm again. It's been a long long time since they've done any new music. Would love to hear another album!

  • TRAPT is more than just amazing!

The show was AWESOME ! Everyone I met there absolutely loved Trapt show! I heard lots of “That band is REALLY good!” and “ Those guys are awesome!”

this group is better than 95% of the rock bands out today and they are so (underrated) they can mix both harcore songs and soft in their albums--yet not on top charts or the radio !!! So unfair!!

    Trapt is the best! ❤️

  • My seat was right next to the stage. I could hardly hear the vocals. The vocals sounded better in the GA area. I didn’t pay more money for a seat not to be able to make out the vocals. I never had this problem at the canyon in Agoura Hills, Santa Clarita, or Pasadena. Long story short I won’t be coming back to Montclair. If there’s a band I like, I’ll see them at one of your other locations.

  • I was a bit disappointed that Saliva headlined, because the lineup showed Trapt as the main act. Still, it was a great performance despite some equipment/sound challenges!! I always love sewing Trapt perform, and they seem to get better each time!
