Biografia

  • Silverstein is a 5-piece post-hardcore band from Burlington, Ontario, Canada who formed in 2000 and currently consists of Paul Koehler, Josh Bradford, Billy Hamilton, Shane Told and Paul Marc Rousseau.

After the formation of the band in 2000, they worked through a number of line up changes before settling on a unit that they were content and confident with as a band. This happened to include an early fan who found their advertisement for a bass guitarist on an internet message board. By 2002 the band had signed to Victory Records and worked out a complete line up. Silverstein take influence from Green Day, The Promise Ring, Orchid, Gorilla Biscuits and more.

Their album releases have all been moderate commercial successes, their first LP 'When Broken Is Easily Fixed' entered the US Billboard Independent charts at #45 which was considered a great achievement for the new band. The follow-up 'Discovering The Waterfront' rocketed up the same chart to #3 and debuted at #34 on the US Billboard chart. The band continued on headline tours as well as supporting a number of artists on the road to promote their material and their name. The next release was 'Arrivals & Departures' which topped the independent charts and peaked at #25 on the US album charts, this remains their highest chart position to date.

In 2012 the band released an album entitled 'Short Songs' which featured a side of original material and a side of cover versions playing homage to some of their greatest inspirations such as The Promise Ring, Gob and Dead Kennedys. The band have always been known for an intense touring schedule to promote their latest releases, in 2014 they spent the majority of the summer on the road with stops at a number of festivals.

  • Silverstein

Silverstein has their sound down to a formula. There is little fluctuation in their 10 year spanning career, but that is okay. They know where their strong suits lie and have perfected it to the nth degree. That's not to say they have fallen into complacency. Rather they have developed a confidence and intimate understanding of the direction they want to take. Listening to their first album "When Broken Is Easily Fixed" to their latest "This is How the Wind Shifts" it is easy to detect that much of their ethos and style remains in tact; however a leap in production and overall "tightness" as a band can just as easily be detected.

They are group known for their work ethic and have frequented the touring circuit since their formation. This is apparent in the professionalism and precision of their live shows. It is amazing to see the band at work. Their coordination is unmatched as well as the amount of emotional output they invest in their performance.

Silverstein was one of the first bands I saw live and to tell the truth I was a bit nervous to go. I thought I would get mangled in one of the mosh pits that so frequently erupts at their shows. I wasn't too far from being wrong. As they opened with "Smashed In to Pieces" the crowd turned into a frenzy blur, which persisted through out the show and ended with my brother passing out after "My Heart Bleeds No More" probably due to over-exhaustion, but it could have also been because he got punched in the face.

Next time I saw them the show was just as frenetic if not more. It was almost impossible to keep track of all that was going on in the venue. I was absolutely mesmerized by the sheer dexterity of drummer Paul Koehler. It was as if he was programmed before each show never to miss a beat. But my concentration on one member soon shifted to the next as the show progressed. It was hard to ignore the bass player Billy especially when he was playing his instrument while crowding surfing among the hord of people and Shane is without a doubt one of the best frontmen in the post hardcore scene.

Though Silverstein stays true to their post-hardcore/emo roots their setlist is peppered with a few pop songs such as "Still Dreaming" and even unexpected covers like a screamo rendition of the Beatles' "Help". Maybe if you pay close enough attention you might even catch one of their 6 second covers from "Short Songs".

  • Rock band Silverstein performed "In The Venue" on Wednesday May 7th. They were the second to last band to perform and were highly anticipated, which was obvious because of how loud the applause was, I however did not know who they were at the time but now I'm severely addicted to them.

Silverstein is a Canadian post hard core band that has been together almost 14 years and still consists of the same five members which is a rare find in this genre! The members are front man Shane Told, guitarists Neil Boshart and Josh Bradford, Bass guitarist, Billy Halmton and on drums they have Paul Koehler.

Silverstein put on a passionate and energetic performance that got the whole audience jumping and singing along! And there was also quite a few surprises, like when Shane Told stopped the concert to invite a boy in a wheel chair on the stage in order to give him the "Best seat in the house" because he thought that the boy couldn't see from where he was. Or when Shane got distracted in the middle of a song because a teenage girl fell in the pit once again he stopped the concert until someone picked her up and then he made sure that she was okay before continuing. I was so surprised to see how nice everyone in the band was and how caring they were for there fan bass I also found it somewhat inspirational.

So if your on the look out for a hardcore band with huge mosh pits and lots of energy do not miss out next time Silverstein rolls into town. Trust me it well be worth it!

  • The show was fantastical!!! I've been wanting to see Silverstein since my Freshman year about 8-9yrs ago!! I finally had the opportunity and it was all that I hoped for. I heard the exact songs I wanted to hear. I was not disappointed. I also want to say that I loved Emarosa and Being as an Ocean. They were also amazing. It was just an overall amazing show. I was a little disappointed with Tucson tho. The crowd should have been a lot bigger. Maybe next time you guys should consider playing at the Rock

    I love you guys

    And thanks for coming

    You definitely made my week

  • The whole show was great. Got there when Major League was playing the last song of their set.

Then Hands Like Houses was pretty good... It's always hard to hit those high vocals, but they did an admirable job.

But Beartooth though... You gotta be kidding me. Hands down (top 5 intense sets I've seen. ) period. Heavy and chaotic mosh pits/circle pits insued.

And Silverstein... brought me back to my emo phrase. All the feels. Then they play the whole Discovering the Waterfront album... Nearly cried.

    Fantastic night. Truly.

  • Good show with a good retrospective of their 20 years. They found a good way of integrating all of their multiple styles into a good 2.15 hours starting with a bunch of their favorite followed by an acoustic set and finishing with the complete Discovering the Waterfront album in order. I have seen them about 7 times already but I like that for this one they brought an additional member to cover all the violins, cello, keyboard parts to reproduce as close possible the original songs as they were originally recorded.

    Great show!

  • I didn't actually see Silverstein. I left after Beartooth played.

Beartooth put on a GREAT show. The mosh pit was inexistent before they got on stage. People went nuts as soon as they started to play . Great performance by Beartooth.

Didn't care too much for Hands like houses. Not my style of music. That and you could barely hear the vocals during the songs. The lead singer did give good speeches in between songs! Besides that nothing special on their part

  • This show was fantastic, as always! The crowd was great, but the showmanship of Silverstein was on full display. It's been awhile since the last time I thoroughly enjoyed a concert like I did this one. Tonight, Alive was also wonderful. Jenna McDougall is always an inspiration, and the band did a magnificent job. An A show, hands down!

  • What a show! Both Hands Like Houses & Beartooth played well for the opening lineup! We didn't stay for Silverstein. The gateway is actually a terriable venue. The sound is always shitty, the staff is consistently rude, and the drinks are ridiculously expensive. Though it was a great show, there are much better venues that the Gateway.

  • Amazing!! Had a blast!! Amazing energy, sound was great, and loved the interaction. Loved when the lead from Being as an Ocean jumped into the audience and moshed with us! Everyone was amazing, and security did an amazing job keeping everybody safe. Can't wait until Silverstein and everybody else is back again!!
