As a huge fan of the band Radiohead, I was absolutely buzzing to see Jonny Greenwood perform live and as a solo artist. I was not disappointed. As the lead guitarist of Radiohead, Greenwood was just part of an ensemble piece: brilliant, but part of a group nonetheless. But on centre stage, rocking only his voice and a guitar, Greenwood shone bright. He brought all his cards to the stage that night, picking up instrument after instrument and showing the crowd just how incredibly talented he was: these included the keyboards, guitar, harmonica, drums and even a banjo! Despite being named one of the greatest guitarists of all time, Greenwood is certainly not limited to that one instrument alone! While Radiohead limit themselves to rock alone, Greenwood performed all the music he had composed himself for various projects, so that the crowd were left delighted at the variation of his set. A brilliant composer, Greenwood has composed the soundtracks for a large number of films including ‘There will be blood’, ‘We need to talk about Kevin’ and ‘The Master’, proving that there is no sky too high to limit his genius. It was an incredible experience seeing this legend take to the stage and one that I would recommend to everyone.
This was totally NOT about Jonny. The Rajasthan Express were awesome; full of characters and life. Shye had an incredible voice and hearing the cultural cross pollination is amazing.
Support act Melt Yourself Down were so much fun!
