Biografia

  • Known in equal parts for his role in UK band The XX and his progressive solo production career, Jamie XX can do no wrong.

His musical activity began when he formed The XX with old school mates and first adopted the moniker Jamie XX on an early promo mix. After the XX’s first album went platinum, Jamie began to be seen as an in demand music figure in the UK and further afield. His remix work stretched into big name artists like Florence and the Machine and Adele and helped to build his profile up as a stand-alone musician as well as a band member.

In 2010 Jamie began an unlikely pairing when he remixed the song ‘NY is Killing Me’ off Gil Scott Heron’s ‘I’m New Here’. After gaining mass attention from both the public and critics, Jamie, in partnership with XL Records, released a remix album entitled ‘We’re New Here’ in February 2011, sadly just months before Heron’s passing. The album was critically lauded and, in a testament to the quality of Jamie’s productions, was viewed as an outstanding piece of work in its own right.

Later that year, Jamie’s work reached a bigger audience than ever when he produced a track on Drake’s ‘Take Care’ album. Featuring Rhianna the single peaked at 7 and 9 in the US and UK charts respectively.

With the continued success of The XX (the band scored a number one with their second album in 2012) and a huge following from his production and DJ work, Jamie is pretty much succeeding on every front and looks set to do so for a long time.

  • Jamie xx

When Jamie xx first started DJing and producing on his own, outside of his band The xx, nobody expected him to evolve into a credible solo artist, let alone become one of the UK’s most sought after DJs. His beats and production are the backbone of The xx and his minimal, near clinical style has become commonplace in indie music across the globe. However, as a DJ he is another beast, offering up the kind eclecticism that keeps dance fans constantly second guessing. Like most people, I first heard of him as a solo entity through his massive remix work for the likes of Florence The Machine and Gil Scott-Heron; his sublime remix work on Gil’s final album I’m New Here, released under the name We're New Here, pushed the boundaries of what was considered a remix LP.

As much of a fan of that remix work as I am, I was still dubious when I first encountered a Jamie xx DJ set as some small London festival years ago. I had no reason to be. He was a master of his decks and a pin-point selector, mixing everything from house and techno to more bass-driven garage. I’ve seen him live countless times since, the best being at the Warehouse Project in Manchester, where he finished his techno-heavy set with the original, full version of Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’. He seems to vibe off the crowd, tailoring his sets to wherever he is and whoever he is in front of, and I’ve witness sets that mix all kind of UK dance music and sets that focus on just one genre like garage or techno. The important thing is that I’ve never been disappointed.

  • Considered to be one of the UK's most exciting producers of the moment, Jamie xx is an integral part to the Mercury prize winning collective The xx. His band are known for their wistful alt-pop yet his own music bends the conventions of dance, house and electronica.

Preparing to release his own debut album, he has been working the live circuit tirelessly in-between the xx tours in order to test drive momentous material such as 'Gosh' with its trip-hop beats and unusual samples. There is a trance like feeling to 'Girl' as the audience seem to sway beneath the multi-colour lights, a real sensory experience as opposed to a club banger. This theme continues for 'Loud Places' featuring bandmate Romy as the dreamy, celestial atmosphere continues whilst the crowds completely zone out beneath the trippy tones. 'Far Nearer' is considered to be his crowning achievement so far and wraps the show up nicely. There is a startling amount of potential within this artist who already has scooped the Mercury prize and countless Brit nominations, we shall see where he goes next.

  • I really do enjoy Jamie's work but this was a flop.

It started with two DJs playing before him, each for about hour and a half... so that's three full hours of shoddy "let's turn up the bass to the max every few minutes" kind of music. It was really just too much.

Then Jame took over the stage with ovations and cheers from the crowd, hoping that he will end this DJ torment... Which unfortunately didn't happen. He continued DJing random stuffs with occasionally playing songs from his album which were remixed to the point of unrecognizability. It was so painful and disappointing that we left halfway through his performance.

I reckon this would have been a good concert/party if it was Friday or Saturday night (and not a Tuesday) and if it wasn't marketed as a part of his album tour. I was led to expect he's going to play stuff from his album, not that it's going to be a huge DJ party.

I would also just like to say thanks to Songkick customer support which in no time managed to sort my tickets out, which I forgot back at home. Thanks!

  • This concert was absolutely excellent. Intense and energetic, Jamie xx sounded better live than on record: fatter, richer, and with deeper dynamism. In fact, I appreciate his debut record "In Colour" more now that I've heard him live, because I see how in a certain sense its songs have greater impact in a live context.

There was a fantastic light show that definitely helped put the whole thing over the top. I haven't seen that many people go that crazy (we are talking manic screaming and jumping up and down) over a DJ set since 1997.

And opening DJ Harvey maintained a perfect, sexy, low-slung, mid-tempo vibe that throbbed and pumped us over the first two hours, still leaving plenty of energy left-over for Jamie xx to plug-in and light-up.

I'm glad I went to this show and I appreciate the artist and management for putting it on. Thank you!

  • Massively disappointed.

In Colour is the most-played album on my Spotify and has been the soundtrack of my summer holidays since it came out in 2015. Needless to say, I was pumped at the thought of finally seeing Jamie play at We Love Green festival in Paris. He closed the festival and his show was deeply disappointing. It was all just a disjointed mix of random unrecognisable tunes that Jamie played with an air of complete disinterest. Parts of Oh My Gosh featured amongst the chaos of his mixing, but that was all he gave us from In Colour in one in a bit hours of playing. I appreciate that shows are also about hearing what an artist is working on and about to release, but it totally sucks when artists don't break up the new stuff (if that's what it was that he was playing) with the bangers that earned them the fans in the first place.

  • Deeply disappointing, he played in Hamburg, doors open at 20:00. We show up at 21:00, he's already on. The music is good, but very 'straight from CD', it's not like Clark or M83 or something where they just totally play with the music live, it's just a live performance of the songs exactly as they sounded on the CD.

Then at 22:00 it's over, the lights come up and that's it! Everyone get your coat and go. Pretty disappointing.

Some artists are amazing live, some aren't, Jamie XX wasn't.

Then we all went to PAL and saw gerd janson, and he blew the place up.

  • LOVE

I have been in love with the XX for the last 3 years, hoping and praying that they come to miami. I noticed Jamie branched out with his own music, and when In Colour came out, I fell in love with just about every track. I saw him for Art Basel December 4, 2015, and it was spectacular. His set lights were amazing, had a great set going, and played a lot of his well- known songs

  • Jamie xx's DJ sets are always a fun glimpse into what inspires him. Don't go with your Resident Advisor pretentious hat on, just wear some comfortable shoes and enjoy the show. It's eclectic and for many it'll be a gateway drug to explore different genres of dance music further.

  • it was absolutely brilliant. supporter artist was really cool and brought good mode to the crowd and Jamie xx performance was fabulous.

Just as a comment, there was a huge queue for garderobe in tiny corridor and lots of waiting time to gwt back the stuff from them.

  • The venue is not that big, which makes it more "intimate".

We were sitting on top on the balcony with a great view and a lot of room.

    The show was perfect !

    Great songs and great mixes.

The lights were matching the color theme of the "In Colors" album.
