Devin the Dude was born Devin Copeland on 4 June 1970 in St. Petersburg, Florida, US. He is an American hip-hop artist based out of Houston, Texas, US and has received widespread public recognition for his inventive, oddball lyrics, and his long standing affiliation with Rap-A-Lot Records.
Though Copeland was born in Florida he moved to Texas by the time he reached 4th grade. Throughout his childhood he moved between Houston and Boston, but after his high school graduation he stabilized in the Houston area. Copeland started to experiment with marijuana in the 7th grade. His love for the herb only grew over the years and as he developed as a rapper he often rotated in themes related to this subject matter. Copeland was also fascinated with the breakdancing subculture as a teenager, joining several dance crews; however, it was not long until hip-hop consumed his entire interest.
Immediately following his high school graduation Copeland formed the hip-hop collective Odd Squad, with blind rapper/record producer Rob Quest. Jugg Mugg later joined the line up and in 1994 they released their debut album “Fadanuf Fa Erybody!!” Though the album was not a commercial success and has been out of print for many years it has nevertheless developed a strong cult following and has been declared by Scarface to be the label’s best release. After the demise of Odd Squad Copeland joined the group Facemob alongside Scarface. The group experienced a fair amount of success, having their debut album “The Other Side of the Law” reach No. 51 on the Billboard 200. The band put out their 2nd and final album “Silence” in 2002; however, by this time Copeland was already releasing solo material under the moniker Devin the Dude.
He released “The Dude” in 1998 and “Just Tryin’ ta Live” in 2002. Also around this time he frequently appeared as a guest rapper on songs by his label mates Scarface and the Geto Boys, as well as high profile acts like De La Soul, Dr. Dre, and Gucci Mane.
Copeland went on to release 2004’s “To tha X-Treme” and 2007’s “Waitin’ to Inhale” through the label “Rap-A-Lot”. The latter release peaked to No. 30 on the US Charts and No. 9 on the R&B charts. The next Devin the Dude release, “Landing Gear” came out in 2008 and was the first album in his career not to be released through Rap-A-Lot. Copeland put out two studio albums in 2012 “Suite 420” and “Gotta Be Me”. He followed these two releases with his 8th studio album “One For the Road”. This recording saw release in October 2013 and was issued through Coughee Brothaz Music.

Associated with some of the biggest acts in US old school hip hop, including Geto Boys, Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube, Devin certainly ranks up there with some of the best. All eight of his albums have appeared in the US R&B Top 40, from his 1998 release 'The Dude' all the way up until 'One For The Road', which came out in late 2013. Performing with Coughee Brothaz rapper Java Starr in Denver, the one thing that immediately strikes you is how friendly the audience are despite being at a concert with music that is usually linked to crime and violence. When Devin walked onto the stage, he was offered a can of beer and a roll up by two different fans – a rather strange opening to the show. The crowd seemed to be in a mellow mood throughout his set, probably due to the fact that nearly everyone in the room – including Devin, the DJ and half of the crowd – was intoxicated. Nevertheless, he entertained his fans effortlessly. Despite not performing my favourite track from his discography, Doobie Ashtray, Devin The Dude was a great act to watch. During his final song 'Anythang' he even managed to get the crowd to participate in an acapella sing-along, showing that the bond between audience and artist was strong indeed. Doing live sets for over 15 years means that this guy knows how to give a performance... and perform he did.
Anybody with an interest in hip hop will know the stage name Devin The Dude. Texan musician Devin Copeland has been active on the circuit since the early 90s and is known for his characteristic rapping style. He has never achieved huge amounts of commerciality yet whenever he rolls into town, any hip hop fan will make sure they have a ticket as he always promise one hell of a show.
Stepping on to stage with an ever changing ensemble of accompanying performers, instrumentalists and apparently friends too who have the best seat in the building. With the likes of Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg as named collaborators, the crowd are definitely waiting for an all star appearance yet unfortunately that is not be tonight. Even without one of his famous companions, Devin has no issues in whipping his audience into excited frenzy as he saunters confidently from side to side of stage whilst spitting lyrics in his own unique manner. Closing on 'Somebody's Gotta Do It' to get the whole room jumping along, he leaves in time with his vast entourage.
I have Always Loved Devin Since I was a teen .. so when this 420 concert arose, I had to go. The Venue was a cool chill atmosphere. Cool 420 friendly crowd.
Devin's show was grate! He did all Of his hits. And some new songs. One esp. With a cool jazzy vibe about what else? Getting blowed . Loved it.
He was so cool , down to earth, and very interactive with the Audience. He even hit A guys blunt outbreaks Crowd. He kept up the Energy . Glad I was apart of it. Thanks Devin!!!! ❤
I loved the concert Devin did a great job interacting with the crowd and really made everyone feel apart and together as a group contiue doing what you're doing. Oh and thank you for playing Anythang for the ending song my friend was having an extremely rough day and you singing that and talking to the crowd after that really made him feel good and better. You music IS moving!

The show was great! I didnt expect the coffee brothers to be there and do the whole set with u. This was the best Devin the Dude concert that I been too hands down yall showed out!
The venue was nice the drinks were stiff af and the weed was good. Cant wait too see him again and bring the coffee brothers.
Every time he comes through da D, u betta know I'm there!! We kicced it like da G's we are!! Had a blast and even da women knew some songs along wit da few white folks in there. No drama and dats all u want when you step out to get cha chill on!!
The Dude was fantastic as usual, performing tracks off of his new album, but even performing the classic tracks such as “Boo Boo’n” and “Doobie Ashtray,”
but the opener Magnacarda was off the hook!!! Hip-Hop is Alive and Well
The concert for Devin The Dude that was held at Bada Bing Grille 2 on 1-5-2020 was absolutely outstanding. However, I do believe that the acoustics could have been a lot better.
It was not his fault though.
Devin was epic. Show was everything i expected & more. One of the greatest Artist of my time & maybe yours. Thanks for all the yrs of giving us your gift as a great person. Much love
Amazing as always! This was the 3rd time seeing Devin the Dude at the Grog Shop. Will definitely go if he comes back again! Opening/Supporting performers were also great as well.
