Biografia

  • AWOLNATION is an electronic rock band formed by frontman Aaron Bruno in 2009. The band originates from Los Angeles, US.

Frontman Aaron Bruno, before forming AWOLNATION, was lead singer of a number of bands including Under the Influence of Giants, Hometown Hero and Insurgence, which led Red Bull Records to invite Aaron to use their studio to record a few tracks. The move away from bands to a solo project allowed Aaron to have all of the creative control and include very personal songs to him.

The name AWOLNATION derives from Aaron’s nickname during high-school: AWOL referring to the slang military acronym ‘Absent Without Ordered Leave’ due to the fact he was never very fond of saying goodbye to people so would just leave without word.

AWOLNATION’s debut album “Megalithic Symphony” was released in March 2011 on Red Bull Records, including the songs “Sail”, “Not Your Fault” and “Kill Your Heroes”. The song “Sail” peaked at number 10 in the US Billboard Rock Songs chart, achieved platinum status in the U.S. and six-times platinum in Canada. The song is instantly recognisable, with a selection of huge drops and melodic turns, not to mention the unofficial video has over 135,000,000 views on Youtube.

The band’s popularity is likely due to the genre-blurring style of music they play, accessibly obscure, drawing on a whole host of influences from Radiohead’s “OK Computer” to Justice’s “Cross” from dubstep to metal. AWOLNATION’s powerful production of sound, combining catchy lyrics, well-placed drops with an upbeat style, has meant the band has received lots of radio airplay and been the soundtrack to a laundry list of TV shows, commercials and Youtube videos, including House, The Good Wife, Iron Man 3 and Pretty Little Liars.

  • AWOLNATION

Very few bands can boast an album as diverse as AWOLNATION's debut Megalithic Symphony. Those expecting a collection of songs similar to their hit single "Sail" will be surprised to find a wide range of music from the hard driving electronic beats to the soulful ballad ("All I Need") to the the up-tempo catchy pop number ("Kill Your Heroes", "Jump On My Shoulders") to the epic 12-minute journey of "Knights of Shame."

Even fewer bands can deliver a live performance like AWOLNATION - every song is harder, more raw, and more intense. It's impossible not to, as front-man Aaron Bruno often says, "dance how you want to dance and lose your mind tonight." Bruno has a gift for knowing when to whip his audience into a crowd-surfing, head-banging frenzy, and when to give them a moment to catch their breath and bring everyone together in a moment of shared love. It’s impossible not to leave a sweaty, exhausted mess already wishing for more.

I’ve seen AWOLNATION in venues ranging from massive festivals like Coachella and VooDoo Fest to smaller venues with less than 1,000 people and they have never put on anything other than an amazing show.

Even at the huge festivals you can feel the band’s energy pulse through the crowd; when Aaron raises his fist and shouts “We are the A-WOL-NATION!” you will find people from the front row to the last row chanting along with him.

Seriously, go see this band. You won’t be disappointed.

  • The reputation of American electro-rockers AWOLNATION has exploded since the unlikely hit single 'Sail'. However before this they were far more unknown and it was during this period that I was lucky enough to catch them perform at the intimate Trinity Centre in Bristol.

A show devoid of any theatrics or gimmicks, the four piece stand competently behind their instruments and begin to dissect their complex and diverse debut album 'Megalithic Symphony'. After the eerie opening symphony has been played into the packed venue the band comes to life and launches into a heavy rendition of 'Dirty, Filthy Soul'. Running through material from the debut including 'Not Your Fault' and 'Soul Wars', Aaron Bruno's gruff vocal ties it all together.

A well trained live band, they create a zone within their rock and carefully work tracks together. Stopping only occasionally to thank the audience and confess the surprise at their success, they treat Bristol to a debut of a new song 'Kooks Everywhere'. It is of course 'Sail' though that receives the biggest cheer as they perform an extended brutal version of this alt-rock anthem.

  • AWOLNATION is an electronic rock band formed and headed by front man Aaron Bruno. The band has enjoyed success since 2009 and has released a few commercial successes. However, I believe that the band is heavily under rated and that they deserve way more recognition then they are currently receiving. The band manage to fuse hard core rock with dance and electronica perfectly, culminating in catchy classics such as ‘Sail’ and ‘Hollow Moon’. They have a very unique sound, one that the current music market is missing. Front man Aaron Bruno has a unique voice with incredibly deep pitches to it, vocals that sound even more impressive live than recorded. The huge drops, umping bass and melodic tunes together with Bruno’s vocals all work together to make his band a force to be reckoned with. They sound incredible live: tunes ‘Sail’, ‘Hollow Moon’, ‘I’m on Fire’ and ‘Kill Your Heroes’ were all performed to a great audience reaction. The atmosphere all night was perfect: the crowd were excited and pumping but not too crazy, it was clear that everyone had come to actually listen to the band.

  • So much to say... I can NOT say enough about AWOLNATION. Aaron Bruno is the most amazing front man I have ever seen. He commands and captivates his audiences and is so full of energy and charisma. You will forget everything else while he is entertaining you. And if you take your eyes off of him, guitarist Zach Irons is putting on his own kind of show for you that is equally awesome. You seriously DO NOT want to miss one second of this band live!

I had downloaded their second release and loved it, but after seeing them live in Vegas at the Life Is Beautiful Festival, they quickly became my favorite. As soon as I heard they were passing through my hometown, I purchased tickets for myself and some friends who had never seen them. Now they're hooked as well. Everything I hear from them keeps getting better and better. AWOLNATION is here to stay. And I can't wait to see what they do next.

  • The show was amazing. They sound even better live than they do on Spotify. They really give their all and are amazing at what they do. I love that they also performed a few songs from their 2011 album for those who’ve been fans from the beginning, that was an awesome surprise.

Even though I’ve been a fan since the beginning, this was my first time at one of their concerts and I plan to never miss any future tours after seeing them give their all last night. The interaction with the crowd was also fantastic. The size of the venue really allowed them - especially Aaron - to engage with the audience and he took every opportunity. I think it’s so awesome that you actually get to see them showing love for their fans firsthand rather than just saying it. AWOLNATION are a gift to music, thanks for being awesome!

  • In Des Moines, acting as the middle artist between PVRIS and Fall Out Boy, this band was just not good at all. There music fell flat, with the exception of "Sail" and their attitude about the whole concert was just poor.

They seemed to not want to be at the concert, honestly. Moreover, they were openly hostile to the crowd, which I found offensive.

Lastly, they did not at all utilize the stage they were given. It was far too big for them. The crowd and the venue were too big for them, and as a result, this tour had gone to their head.

I would not recommend seeing them.

  • The concert was amazing. The venue was great and beautiful. The only issue was the fans because some of them were rude and drunk but other than that no issue. Awolnation had a great performance and so did the opening acts. Personally, I liked the opening acts a lot more especially Irontom. If I had to rate this concert on a normal scale it would a 9.5 out of 10. The other .5 was lost because of the damn audience but you can't really control that.

  • Awesome, awesome band!! Could not be more pleased. Even with technical difficulties that seemed to be fault of venue, band soldiered through and gave crowd a stellar performance. Light show fantastic, interaction to the crowd superb, song selection great and even ironic in places. Great evening and kudos to Finish Ticket as well! Bought their albums! Great talent and was happy to be introduced to them!!

    Would repeat in a minute!

  • AWOLNATION had the challenge of playing at a festival where people likely came to see the headliner. And yet, many left as new fans of AWOLNATION. Lead singer, Aaron Bruno, endeared himself to the crowd by running through the lawn seats and tossing plastic, pink roses to the XFest concertgoers. He returned to the stage and barely sounded out of breath for the remainder of their hard-driving, high-energy. performance.

  • Love their stuff off album, wasn't sure how it would transfer to a live show, but I definitely enjoyed it. Their up tempo stuff creates great energy, and they sustain it. Very talented musicians - they did a great AC DC riff that I would've loved for them to extend, and then a Pixies cover which got everyone going nicely. Would love to see them again.
