Biografia

  • Borgore, real name Asaf Borger (born October 20th 1987) is a DJ/producer from Tel Aviv, Israel, self-proclaimed as being the man who "ruined dubstep."

Whatever you may think of him, there is no denying that Borgore is one of the biggest names in the world of bass music. His music combines heavy, aggressive dustup with electro house and trap, often characterised as 'brostep' due to its Americanised, gimmick-inflected, aggressively loud variation of the dubstep genre.

Borgore received a formal musical education, studying jazz at Tel Aviv's Thelma Yellin Music Academy, as a saxophone player and composer for big band ensembles. Yet his tastes turned to electronic music and dubstep, after hearing DJs playing music by the likes of Benga, Mala and Coki, who pioneered the dubstep genre in London, UK. He then began to make music in a similar style achieving significant success via the internet.

Borgore released several EPs since 2010, becoming more polished in his sound following his initially crude releases. He has also set up his own record label, titled Buygore, through which he has released his own music, as well as artists Dead Audio, Bare Noize, Kennedy Jones and At Dawn We Rage. Borgore also performs as a duo with fellow dubstep artist Tomba.

In 2012, he released the single "Decisions" which featured a guest performance by Miley Cyrus. The track was a huge hit and the video has received several millions of views. It also sparked the beginning of Miley Cyrus' changing image, moving away from her reputation as a child-friendly pop star.

In 2014, Borgore released his first full length album, titled "#NEWGOREORDER" on Diplo's Mad Decent label. The album showcased a more eclectic mix of influences, from EDM to trap to hip hop. Borgore also showcases some of his lyrical abilities, rapping on some of the songs on his album.

  • Uber dropped us off and we got through the door and into the performance room a few minutes before Yookie came on.

Yookie started out strong, but about halfway through their set, lost their way. They finished out their set playing 30-second clips. Great if you're a Chad, not so great if you want a contiguous groove you can dance to.

Saymyname came out next. Laid down a really good set. Prior to tonight, I'd been on the fence about whether I wanted to follow them on SoundCloud. Tonight's performance told me to get of the fence and hit the follow button. Good, energetic set. Even had segments that made me say to the people around me "DC promoters actually are able to sorta get hardstyle-ish acts".

Next, Diesel came out. I'm always suspicious of celebrities-turned-DJs. So, I've never gone to see him when I've had other opportunities (even the free show at November's re:Invent). Was pleasantly surprised. Was a good, high-energy set.

Finally, Borgore came out. What can you say? It was Boregore. He gives you what you expect him to: a good, high-energy performance that uses up whatever energy you had left in you that night. There was no "huh: he got outplayed by his openers". Just a solid, energetic set that makes the whole room jump around. Probably accounts for why, after crashing-out from the Uber ride home, I slept till after 1400.

  • The rise of dubstep over the past decade or so has given rise to plenty of eccentrics and their own unique styles, whether it be Skrillex’s interpolation of metal and dance sounds or the urban edge that Magnetic Man lent to both their group and solo endeavours, and Borgore is another artist who stands as a testament to that; hailing from Tel Aviv, Israel, he’s blended both classic elements of the genre and some of the new movements that border on novelty - like brostep, for instance - to create a sound that’s certainly plenty marketable, if nothing else. He describes his own sound as ‘gorestep’ on account of his frequently heavy instrumental choices and the regularity with which he references horror movies and culture, and has a diverse musical history that’s seen him perform in strip clubs, collaborate with Miley Cyrus and plenty more besides. He’s also linked up with the likes of Diplo and Waka Flocka Flame, and has proven a staple of the European festival circuit this summer, continuing to toy with his unique brand of dubstep in front of huge crowds across the continent. UK fans can catch him at Reading and Leeds festivals very soon, with further dates likely to follow; he’s rarely off the road for long.

  • Asaf Yoseph Borger better known by his stage name of Borgore is an Israeli electronic dance music producer and DJ who has been making waves since appearing on the dub-step scene in 2009. Merging his electro sounds with sounds taking from genres including heavy metal and rock, the young artist has been known to have one of the most energetic live shows around.

Having released just one major body of work thus far, Borgore's set lists are unpredictable and diverse as he reaches from various EPs and singles to keep the crowd moshing and dancing in equal measure. He does have some surprises though when he breaks from his gore-step sound to drop his collaborative single 'Decisions' which features backing vocals from Miley Cyrus.

He keeps the audience entertained throughout as he jumps and thrashes around the stage with his live band who help him to create his complicated sounds. Whether you had heard of Borgore before or not, you were assured to have been left with an impression following his live show.

  • I dunno what happened. He started out playing a good opening sixty or so minutes, but then decided to punk-out and start playing nothing but sixty-second intros ...frequently of other artists' works with little to nothing in the way of appreciable remixing. I came to see Borgore put on a show, not just play DJ.

If I'd have only been there for his first hour (and 12th Plante's set!), this would have been a great show. That he ruined his set with a very lazy second half means the best I can give this outing is a C.

Note to other artists: if you only have sixty minutes worth of material, either don't accept a headlining gig or ask the promoter to book in one more opener so you can keep your set short enough that you don't run out of material.

  • Awesome party at Borgore's in Macau. The city's newest venue, Pacha, has fantastic sound and great environment, with a beautiful outdoor terrace to chill out. There weren't too many people unfortunately, but Borgore did his part. Just what I expected. Hardcore to the end. Finally, some serious dubstep arrived to our area.

Oh, and the ticket and drinks were cheap as hell (around 70 MOP).

  • This show was great ! He dropped new songs from MUST DIE! to Barely Alive and also famous songs from Flux Pavilion and friends. If you're into Trap, this was also a part of the genres played there with Apashe.

The swiss DJs Koma Dub and Third2second put up epic mixes untill 4:30 am !

  • Borgore came out earlier than I expected which was great, you usually have to wait till almost 1 1/2 before the club closes to see your favorite dj. He did an absolute amazing performance. Played all my favorite songs and kept the energy up constantly. Can't wait to attend another show.

  • The music was great all throughout the night. The location was pretty awesome. We basically raged in an old school theater. The only issue I had was that the show was 16 and up. It was weird seeing underage kids on drugs and underage girls half naked twerking on stage for Borgore.
