Biografia

  • Say Anything are an alternative rock band from California, US who since 2000 have been creating masterpieces which have inspired generations of musicians.

Though the band have been through several line-up changes, the real essence of who Say Anything are has remained constant. The current line up consists of: founding member and principal songwriter Max Bemis (vocals), Jake Turner (guitar), Parker Case (keys, guitar), Jeff Turner (guitar), Coby Linder (drums) and Adam Siska (bass).

Bemis created the band with the intention of making music with his friends nurturing music that they were passionate about. When the band self-released their debut EP “Menorah/Mejora” for free online in October 2002, despite the rough nature of the recordings their inherent talent shone through and created a battle between several record labels wanting to invest in the band. In 2003 the band signed with Doghouse Recordings, home to All American Rejects and Hot Water Music.

With the label on board, the only thing left to do was create their first professional masterpiece. Feeling the heat and pressure of trying produce something great pushed Bemis to the edge of a musical cliff as he pushed boundaries, breaking genre conventions as they experimented and incorporated math-rock and indie elements into their sound. The result would be the critically acclaimed album “…Is a Real Boy” released in 2003.

In 2005 Say Anything signed with J Records (an imprint of Sony BMG) with the hope of expanding their existing fan base while achieving their dreams of creating incredible music with the aid of big shot producers and engineers. In 2006 they re-released “…Is a Real Boy” with a bonus CD “…Was a Real Boy” under the new label giving it the mainstream exposure that it wasn’t able to reach in the first instance.

It was all go from there as the band went on to playing the seminal Vans Warped Tour festival where they won over fans with their cathartic and chaotic performances. In their prolific career Say Anything have also toured with the likes of: Biffy Clyro, Thrice, Saves the Day and Manchester Orchestra.

In the wake of their sixth album “Hebrew” released in 2014 with new label Equal Visions Records, Say Anything have meandered through genre shifts, taking the route of exploration and self-discovery accompanied by good old fashioned rock intertwined with refined orchestral stringed arrangements. Say Anything continue to push boundaries as they produce incredible masterpieces time after time.

Avaliações ao vivo

  • Say Anything

Say Anything was, once again, amazing. The crowd is almost always great at their shows; there's a fantastic camaraderie and life, and most people are there to have fun and are happy to help you.

Modern Baseball was also ridiculously fun live, from their snippit of 'Santeria' for the drummers dad because HE WAS FINALLY AT THE HARD ROCK CAFE to the brotherly love onstage.

Hard Girls was also a solid opener; unfortunately I found that Cymbals Eat Guitars fell a bit flat.

SA itself rocked and rocked hard, to the point of moshpits and crowd surfing, four-piece orchestra be damned. The only bad part was my inability to hear most of the quartet unfortunately; I really was looking forward to being swept away during 'Woe' for example. To be fair 'They rocked too hard' isn't that bad of a reason not to hear them, so I was overall pleased.

  • There are a lot of great bands out there. A lot of great bands play a lot of shows and yet I keep coming back to see Say Anything live. What makes a great live show, to me, is the energy in the room. From the moment they step on stage, the crowd changes from a collection of individuals to a living breathing entity. Everyone screaming out the lyrics in unison, bodies jumping and dancing and moving. Max Bemis makes it his mission to connect with as many fans as he can throughout the duration of each show. He makes eye contact, interacts with the fans, plays requests and is genuinely grateful for the opportunity to play for us. Say Anything is one of the few bands that never take their success for granted and play each show as if it were their last. They're also really great musicians so that's a plus too.

  • The opening band was pretty good - they were very energetic without being too annoying and definitely had their own weirdness to keep us entertained. Saves The Day played for a good hour or so, even playing a few of their newer songs. They lit incense so the whole room smelled good. I was actually pretty surprised by how long their set was but it was awesome. When Say Anything came on, they definitely didn't disappoint. They brought back the same energy and humor that they've built years fine tuning. Their set was about as long as that of Saves The Day, meaning they could play a bunch of their old, yet classic stuff. They ended with a very heartfelt thank you and the song "Admit It." Great show!!

  • Fucking amazing, possibly the best show I've been to yet. All the bands were absolutely perfect live, but The Front Bottoms and Say Anything absolutely killed it! I was super excited to finally get to see Say Anything for the first time, and such great bands play all together and they did not dissapoint. It was better than I imagined it. Wish I could relive that night over and over again. Only downside was I had to go to work a couple hours right after the show, sore but full of energy, It was so fucking worth it..

  • Great show! Max's stage presence was incredible. The strings section on stage was a great addition as well.

And the opening acts were all bands that I need to take a good listen to.

  • Fantastic show. Max was as energetic as you could want and he really dove into the classics. Surprising, actually because his early music seems to haunt him. Regardless it was great.
