Dokken are a ‘hair metal’ outfit that was at the forefront of the movement in the 1980s. They fast became a Platinum selling outfit, selling 10 millions albums to date.
In 1976, Don Dokken joined Greg Pecka and Steven R, Barry to form a band. They wasted no time in playing club shows around the Los Angeles area as “Airborn”, but soon changed their name to Dokken after another band had the name. After five years of hard graft, they finally signed to the label with Carrere Records. It was a brief relationship that led to the band being signed to Elektra Records and releasing the full-length debut “Breaking the Chains” on September 18th 1983. It achieved minor success in Europe and the US, but it wasn’t until their sophomore album “Tooth and Nail”, released on September 13th 1984, that they became a Platinum selling band, with the album peaking at number 49 in the Billboard 200.
“Under Lock and Key” released on November 9th 1985 made it to number 32 and was also certified Platinum, seeing the band’s status grow exponentially. “Back for the Attack” released on November 27th 1987 became the band’s highest selling album to date, making the top 20 of the US and Sweden. From the album, spawned the hit singles “Burning Like a Flame” and “Dream Warriors”. The band would later embark on the Monsters of Rock tour alongside Van Halen and Metallica. Various recordings from their April 1988 Japan tour culminated in the release of a live album called “Beast from the East”, which was released on November 16th 1988.
Unfortunately, the band went on a hiatus from 1989 to 1993, but saw the band make a comeback with Columbia Records, on May 23rd 1995, with “Dysfunctional”. The album went to number 47 in the Billboard 200 and number 146 with “Shadowlife”, released on April 15th 1997.
In September 2012, the band released “Broken Bones”, which peaked at number 173 in the Billboard 200.
Leia maisIn the 80s the glam metal genre adopted a sub-genre called 'hair metal' and at the forefront of this movement were Californian outfit Dokken. Achieving a cult following followed by huge global commercial success during the 80s, the fans were left devastated when the group announced hiatus in 1989 before reforming just four short years later. Since that small blip the group have been performing with consistency and force through the following decades and continue to enthuse and entertain crowds on both sides of the Atlantic despite their growing age.
Lead by the ever intense Dan Dokken, the guitar riffs boom out tonight and signal the beginning of a raucous performance. With a large and consistent discography, the group intermingle the newer material that is more of an acquired for their infamous tracks such as 'Dream Warriors' and 'Into The Fire' which have the entire venue head banging along. The group's appearance is more subdued than during their formation yet the hair still remains and it is thrown wildly during extended instrumentals to the final instrumental throws of 'In My Dreams'.
Don Dokken has an impressive list of great songs. Don's vocal range apparently isn't what it used to be, as he doesn't go high anymore, but his voice is still excellent. The lead guitar player is too good to be human - sounds at least as good as the original lead. I was surprised that there wasn't anything on the stage that identified the band as Dokken - just the stack of amps and drum kit. Some Dokken logo would have made for more memorable pics. Don was bothered by too much smoke on stage, but that eventually cleared out and it provided for clearer pics. First warm-up band, Trixter, was a pretty good three-man band; the did their job well in a half-hour set and got a lot of sound out of a single lead guitar. The second act, Warrant, is a major-league hard rocking band, with some stage graphics identifying the band. The lead vocalist is incredible! Excellent performers - great (and loud) 45-minute set that left my ears ringing - I can't believe some people brought small children, some of whom were on the floor near the stage.
Speaking as a 30 year fan... Dokken can only be described as "My Own Personal Beatles".... Dokken is an Amazing Band With Great rhythm and harmonies, followed by melodic climax which only takes you to the outer reaches of the high pitched notes coming from the one and only George Lynch. These Rock Legends are not to be taken for granted.... we no longer have the luxury of time... If you have never seen Dokken live with the original members, this is a once in a lifetime event.... I am going to SD for the US show then fly to Japan for this one in a lifetime event for me.... Dokken Live is incredible, in Rocklahoma 2007 they were a well oiled machine.. in 1995 upon their return they were playing amazing... in 1988.. through the years following a 30 year career there is no other band I can proudly say... They will be at the top of their game.... DOKKEN IS BACK FOR THE ATTACK!!!!
ROCKIN with DOKKEN is always an Intimate & Passionate experience. Don's Alluring & Charismatic vocals touches everyone who remembers his stardom in the 80's & beyond! The music is enhanced by the top performers on stage featuring Chris on bass who carries the vocal harmonies & mega star John on lead guitar who epitomizes a ROCK STAR! Original drummer Mick makes the show with his hard driving best & enthusiasm screaming "and the crowd goes wild!" It's comforting to be with DOKKEN for 40 years during their career to dongs like "Alone Again" "Take me Back" "Lucky" and other chart topping hits. Don loves his fans who are true to his musical & artistic creativity.

An intimate evening with the classic line-up of Dokken. What more can i say than it was the most awesome night of my life. From the meet and greet, to the photo op, to the dress rehearsal, it was all i have ever hoped for. The Badlands Pawn shop is an amazing venue and the people there as cool as they come. Drove 20 hours from Buffalo and it was the drive from hell, but to say it was worth it is the understatement of the century. I'll never forget this trip and it will always live 'In My Dreams'! Thank you all those responsible for making this happen, i owe you my life.
The band played many of their 80's hits as well as some from the 90's. They performed well, put on a good show and connected with the audience. Lot's of love for this band in the crowd! Don & the band did a great job with their vocals. His ability to work around the melodies and still have power for those signature 80's screaming vocals was great to hear. I was always on the road playing jazz so I never saw the original lineup. But it didn't matter! This version of Dokken is still rock'n! Checked one off my bucket list! Thanks Dokken!
Great show. Don was smiling and loved the participation from the crowd. Mick was off the hook and funny as ever. Jon killed it on the guitar and Chris beat the crap out if that bass. Maybe Don cant hit all the high notes in this altitude but that didnt stop him. The show lasted over an hour and a half. Will see them again if tgey come to Denver or anywhere within 8 hours of here. Dont miss them, you wont be disappointed.
The show was outstanding!!! The whole band
delivered and then some. Mr.Scary's performance
was exceptional as always. The song list was spot
on. They played all their greatest hits and the
fanbase favorites. It was good to see the
original members perform together again. Look for
the DVD and live CD release of it, hopefully
early next year. It was truly a remarkable show.
Dokken still to this day puts on a great live show!! Jon Levin has truly defined his own guitarist style while playing much of George Lynch's riffs near perfectly!!
Sean McNabb has became such a consistent an fun bass artist to watch play live including some bass solos!!
You can always count on them hitting the great favorite hits as well as possible newer tunes!!! Don't miss them!! \,,/
The show we saw at Buffalo Rose in Golden, CO was fantastic. This is the second time I've seen Dokken within a few years, previous time being in St. Louis, and I'm never disappointed. One of my favorite bands for sure and I look forward to seeing them again. The Buffalo Rose is a great venue, too, and I'm glad we flew to Denver for this show!
