Biografia

  • Thom Yorke (born October 7, 1968) is a seminal British music figure. Adored as the falsetto-vocalist and songwriter in the critically-acclaimed alt-rock band Radiohead, as well as for his strong political stances and solo work, Yorke hails from Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, England.

Initially inspired by Queen’s Brian May, Yorke received his first guitar at the age of seven and had built his own by the age of 10. During his time in school the budding musician spent much of his time in the separated music department, and spent fridays rehearsing with school mates and future bandmates Ed O’Brein, Phil Selway, and Colin and Johnny Greenwood. After leaving school Yorke headed to the University of Exeter where he worked as DJ at the Guild, contributed to the experimental excursions of a classical ensemble, and played with the band, Headless Chickens. Towards the tail-end of his degree, Yorke resumed playing with O’Brien, Selway and the Greenwoods, named themselves Radiohead, and became one of the most extolled alt bands in UK history.

Incorpraring a wide spectrum of influences from experimental, alternative rock, jazz, electro and krautrock, Yorke has released eight albums with the group, notably “OK Computer”, “Kid A”, and “In Rainbows”. During the height of Radiohead’s success in 2006, the singer and multi-instrumentalist released his debut solo album “The Eraser” on the revered independent label XL Recordings. Charting at No. 3 on the UK Albums Chart, the record was later nominated for the 2006 Mercury Prize and the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Album. Yorke supported the record with a string of festival appearances including Latitude and Glastonbury.

In 2009, after returning to Radiohead to release “In Rainbows”, Yorke looked to expand his musical output further by forming the supergroup, Atoms for Peace. Comprised of Red Hot Chilli Peppers’ bassist Flea, R.E.M. drummer Joey Waronker, Forro in the Dark percussionist Mauro Refosco, and Radiohead’s Goodrich on guitar and keyboard, the band released their debut album “Amok” in February 2013. The following year Yorke released his sophomore solo album “Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes” via BitTorrent, which generated over a million downloads in its first week.

On top of his own releases however, Yorke has contributed to some to the output of the most respected artists in the music industry. Back in 2000, he recorded a duet with PJ Harvey entitled “The Mess We’re In”, after which he appeared on Björk’s “Selmasongs”. In 2010 and 2012 the singer provided vocals to the Flying Lotus tracks “…And the World Laugh with You” and “Electric Candyman”, respectively, and has subsequently worked with the electronic artists Modeselektor, Burial, Four Tet.

  • I've been a huge Radiohead fan for years and I never thought I would get the chance to see them live - but, I never once thought I would have the chance to see Thom Yorke perform solo in my whole life! I was fortunate enough to attend a festival last week where he played a few songs on his own. For instance, he played Karma Police on the piano and killed it on vocals. He has a very distinctive voice and can hit such great high notes. I was very impressed by this in person because I didn't think he could pull it off live.

He also incorporated a great deal of instrumentation and exploration during his solo pieces, such as Analyse where he created a space-based sound with airy piano licks and hooks. I was even more impressed by his performance during The Clock when he pulled out an acoustic guitar and went to town. He is very impressive on the guitar and I was surprised to see the amount of experimentation he could achieve with only his voice and an acoustic guitar. The crowd was very tame and remained seated for most of the performance, but I don't think anyone wanted to interrupt the genius at work - Thom Yorke.

  • Great show. Look, at the end of the day, I think everyone except Mr. Yorke wished it was a Radiohead show, but its still worth experiencing the vision and sound, and you know, it feels really great to be in the same room as true greatness.

This was still a great live show, and I recommend it. So many electronic shows come across as overly polished and basically recreations of a studio album, but Thom Yorke makes the sound feel live and fresh. Look, I’m primarily a Radiohead fan, and when he moved closer to that sound, I adored it. When he ventured a bit towards the avant garde, it make have become only slightly less attractive.

As a front man, Thom Yorke is just great. I saw so much more personality at this show than his others, and he was clearly enjoying himself.

The crowd was strange and a bit lame. Half were sitting and complaining about the half standing. It’s music to move to, and sadly, the assigned seating and overaggressive security people prevented that. The security was SO aggressive that Thom Yorke stopped mid song and asked if he was bothering them.

  • Roundhouse is always an amazing venue with great acoustic and the chance to have a good view of the stage virtually in all the areas.

As usual, Radiohead's frontman delivered an immersive performance including setting up synthesizers, playing guitar, bass, singing and dancing to the pace of the unpredictable tempos of his most experimental work.

The visuals that accompanied the show are carefully designed and enhance each song's atmosphere, in an attempt to express how sound could become image and ultimately space.

An amazing show that covered songs from The Eraser, AMOK, Tomorrow's Modern Boxes and even Radiohead, with a solo interpretation of Spectre.

  • Really massive! Thom Yorke is Thom Your, and that always means uncanny atmosphere, pretty vocal parts, great lyricism, and on top of all that(this year) fantastic visuals. Strongly recommended for all the people who are not only into Radiohead or Yorke's solo stuff but to almost any musicholic. Name another modern-day artist who's as influential and versatile, or name another musician who is able to create such eerie yet pretty soundscapes? Just must be heard/seen/attended

  • No, jeff-keiser-1, not ''anyone would want it to be Radiohead concert'', PLEASE do not speak for everyone and anyone. You can't know what all these people that came to his concert really wanted. Many people, including me, dig Thom's solo music, and we do NOT compare it to Radiohead. Also, no need to throw shades at electronic music and shows, why are you even here on this page and his concerts if you don't like this stuff? Honestly. Speak for yourself only.

  • What can I say, it's Thom Yorke. He definitely has some magic about him and even his farts are charming probably. I've seen him play without Radiohead a few times and it has always been different. Even though I hadn't listened to TMB that much, he made each song interesting and intriguing. Stoked that I got a chance to see him again in a small venue close to the stage.

  • The show felt like sinking underwater into a futuristic discotheque filled with vibrations and strobe lights pulsating to the beat of a cartoon villain. But you secretly like the villain because he’s cooler than you and all you want to do is have coffee with him and ask him for his opinion on your jeans cause his jeans always look so good. It was absolutely stunning.

  • The production mixing console had a harsh purple light shining in our eyes so we could hardly see the stage.

The lead act electronic drum soloist was not very good. The local kids in their garage are much better.

And Thom Yorke has nothing new. It looked like he just went up and winged it. Played a few oldies. But he managed to take my money. Uggh!

  • The graphics were great and the bowl was beautiful. I had the best 7up of my life there, it was nice and cold and crisp. He played songs from ANIMA only during the encore and I wasn't too familiar with the other songs. Did not play any Radiohead songs. All in all it was a nice show and a nice venue. We enjoyed our time.
