Biografia

  • Collective Soul is an American Rock band that originate from Stockbridge in Georgia, USA. He band is a combination of alternative, hard rock and post-grunge. They formed in 1992.

The group currently consists of lead vocalist Ed Roland, rhythm guitarist Dean Roland, bassist Will Turpin, drummer Johnny Rabb and lead guitarist Jesse Triplett. Lead singer, Roland, is responsible for the band’s formation in the early 90s. He has worked in the music scene since the mid 80s, performing and making demos in his home town of Stockbridge. He started recruiting musicians in order to put a band together and throughout the years, the line-up of Collective Soul changed radically, with members coming and going until Collective Soul was made of the line up we see today.

The band’s breakthrough came early in their career: in 1993 their first official single ‘Shine’ became a mainstream hit and led to them being signed by Atlantic Records, a leading record label company. Following this surprise hit, Atlantic records quickly released the band’s first demo, hoping to cash in on their sudden popularity. The album was a success and went on to achieve double platinum status.

Since this early success, Collective Soul have gone on to achieve enormous mainstream recognition. They have since recorded seven Number one rock hits. Some of their most famous singles include ‘Breathe’, ‘Wasting Time’, ‘Gel’ , ‘December’ and, of course, smash hit ‘Shine’. In 2004 the band created their own independent music label, El music Group, that allowed them greater control over their music and what they released. The band received an enormous honour in 2009 when they were inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in September.

  • Collective Soul

Before I get to the set list, let me say this was probably one of my top 3 CS shows. As is the case with CS, I can't pick just one anything that's my "favorite".

The venue was intimate but not small and there wasn't a bad seat in the house. I would definitely recommend seeing a show here if you get the chance.

There was no opening band at this show and as the lights dimmed, you could feel the electricity, the excitement, crackling in the air. For me that's always a good sign that the night will be one to remember.

The lights on the stage lit up and the entrance music started to play - quite surprisingly a song that's almost 60 years old: Climb Every Mountain (from the Sound of Music) ... the guys walked on and proceeded to slam head first into Heavy. They rocked through four or five songs before addressing the crowd. Classics like Shine, TWIK, Gel and December were there as well as newer hits from their SWYSBC release. The jewels of the night were two new songs: All Our Pieces and Rule #1. Ed spoke of the writing and recording the band has been doing in Atlanta for a new CD - no release date was mentioned, but be assured new music is on the way. A special moment for me was when Ed sang the first verse of Amazing Grace before launching into Shine.

Johnny Rabb proved once again he is The Man - a man with a mission to rock your socks off. Every beat of the drums vibrated to your very soul and resonated in the shaking of the floor and the furniture. Jesse never fails to disappoint by delivering his licks with passion and energy. Ed was his usual charismatic, energetic, microphone wielding self hopping and dancing across the stage (pausing to photobomb a few selfies with fans along the way).

About an hour into the show, Ed mentioned to the crowd that they "don't do encores". Why? He explained that it's because the venue only gives them a set amount of time to play, and with the time spent leaving the stage, all the clapping, and returning to the stage, they'd rather just play music for us and not waste any of that allotted time.

All in all, a high energy show with everything you love about Collective Soul. As Ed said himself during the show, "We are a band born in the 90s, but we are not a 90s band - and we still f-ing rock!" Yes. Yes they do.

The show was an hour and a half long, with seventeen songs in total played. In order, they were:

    Heavy

    Why Pt. 2

    Better Now

    Hurricane

    Contagious

    AYTA

    Amazing Grace

    Shine

    All Our Pieces

    Rule #1

    Precious Declaration

    December

    She Said

    TWIK

    Gel

    Where The River Flows

    Run

  • I only went to the show to see Collective Soul, no offense to Soul Asylum or 3 Doors Down. As usual, they did not disappoint. They started with two new songs, "Now's the Time" and 'Over Me', then launched into "Shine" which brought those not already standing to their feet. Other hits they played included 'December', 'Why Part 2', 'Better Now', 'The World I Know', and 'Heavy'. They did two new songs, 'Right As Rain' and 'Observation of Thought'. RAR was on the live album, but OOT is a brand new song with heavy meaning. They closed out the show with 'Gel', 'Where the River FLows', and 'Run'. Ed Roland played out the band on 'Run' and continued to play while the audience sang the chorus as he left the stage. This is only my 3rd Collective Soul show but it was the best one I have ever seen. I wished they could have played more songs, but I was beat with the heat and humidity so I didn't stay for 3 Doors Down.

Collective Soul is so much more than their hits and the few songs casual listeners to the band know. At the heart of their music is the simple concept of Love and Faith, which can be heard in almost every song they do. Their music speaks to the heart, and the soul.

  • Collective Soul is an American rock band hailing from Stockbridge in Georgia. The band formed back in 1992 and have been going strong ever since, their music a powerful concoction of alternative, hard rock and post grunge. Ed Roland paved the way for the band to make their musical mark on the world, the band’s sound a recollection of the likes of Aerosmith and other extremely popular 90s bands. The band is still incredibly relevant today, however. Their music may be old school but it stands the test of time, and the band is loved by many today. Indeed, the crowd that turned out in their thousands to watch Collective Soul were full of passion and excitement, and had soon worked themselves up into a wild frenzy full of anticipated excitement. The band played all their hits, including their impressive seven hit number one singles, such as ‘Breathe’, ‘Gel’ and ‘December’. The real climax was, of course, hit single and iconic rock song ‘Shine’, which brought the house down and ended the night on an absolute high.

  • Ed Roland, Dean Roland, Will Turpin, Johnny Rabb and Jesse Triplett otherwise known as Collective Soul are the Georgian rockers who always bring the party with their live show. They have enjoyed international commercial success and have gained a large following for their music. Away from the obvious breakout hit 'Shine', the group has a number of other major releases and a show that blends all this music together.

The quintet makes one hell of a large sound onstage and frontman Ed Roland has no problems in whipping the crowds up into excitement before the band begin the introductions to 'The World I Know'. They thrive on the cheers and the more the crowd gives, the more the band gives as they really thrash out their instruments during extended versions of 'Listen' and 'Good Morning After All '.

The audience rocks along vigorously due to the enthusiasm of the band and the hits such as 'Better Now and 'Shine' keeps the whole gig moving at a fluid, fast pace. The band proves they will never be considered one hit wonders.

  • When people think of Collective Soul they think of one song. Shine. Not only do they have many other great hits, but the men of the band put on one of the best shows in rock and roll. As a long-time concert-goer, I have seen every band from The Rolling Stones to The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Out of the 60 bands I have seen, none have put on a better show than Collective Soul.

Ed Roland is charismatic, engaging and supremely entertaining when he is on stage. He loves to move around and never stands still. He makes every audience member feel like he is singing just for them.

Every band member brings their own special piece of the puzzle to every show. My husband and I have seen them 9 times in the last 3 years and each concert has been a great experience. With a new album coming out this year and an upcoming tour, we couldn't be more excited to see them for a 10th time.

If you have the opportunity to see Collective Soul, please don't hesitate. You won't be disappointed!

  • I went to this concert knowing all the songs and excited to hear them played live. But it is indescribable how much more amazing they are live. "Precious Declaration" was so much fun, and their new song, "Confession", was an absolute blast. Being one of the youngest people there, I only wish that the audience had been a little more excited and that they had danced a little more. I was in the second row, though, and the band members were fired up and great at interacting (even with the somewhat quieter) crowd. Ed has such a great frontman personality, the band really knows how to use the stage, and each of them are talented artists. So all I am saying is: go! Please go and see Collective Soul! But bring all your friends with you that will want to dance so that this great band will get more of what they deserve.

  • If you haven't seen Collective Soul in a long time, or ever, I highly suggest it! And definitely get their new album! (they give out free digital copies with your ticket!)

Collective Soul gave a great performance! I have loved them for years, and they keep showing me why I love them so. Their new music is as strong as ever. The harmonies, melodies, rhythm, and, especially, the beautiful lyrics, are as beautiful and thoughtful as anything, if not better, that they've ever done. The show was strong. The two new guys, Jesse and Johnny, are great. I did get to touch base with the band and compliment them on the new material. They were so appreciative, as they've always been. I love that they come out and meet fans, pose for pics, sign items, and just chat as regular guys.

  • Epic Show! Great sound at the Jubilee Auditorium! They played all the hits and even a brand new song from their next album that had never before been played live. I hung out after the show and got to meet Dean, Will, and Ed who are such easy-going, genuinely nice, down to earth human beings. Even though it was late and they had a long nights drive to Vancouver they took the time to meet some fans, sign some autographs, and discuss how they like to just rock out on the stage! Also I have to say Kudos to the Edmonton fans who are always excited and energetic to see collective soul. They are also a big part of why this show was what it was!

  • I booked flights, hotel and bought tickets for this show as a surprize gift for my husband for our one year anniversary. The night before the show my husband injured his knee and we unfortunately ended up in ER for 10 hours the next day and completely missed the show. Hopefully get another chance to see them again sometime. :(

  • It was a good show, the venue wasn't too big so that even if you're in the back of the seating area, there's still a good view. I've been listening to Collective Soul my whole life and they played old favorites as well as a few new ones. The only complaint I have is that the show was too short, just about an hour long.
