Tarrus Riley is a singer and songwriter born in New York, United State who was born on the 26th of April 1979. Since his debut in 2005 he has released six studio albums and become one of the premier reggae artists of his generation.
As the son of reggae legend Jimmy Riley, it's fair to say that Tarrus Riley has felt the weight of high expectations, which makes it all the more impressive that he's managed to live up to them and become one of the most respected reggae artists of his generation. Born Omar Riley in The Bronx, New York, he was brought up in Jamaica and while his first musical ambition was to be a DJ, his passion was for singing, and he debuted as a vocalist while he was still in his teens. However, even at such a young age Riley wasn't going to ride anyone else's coat-tails, and so he took the stage name Tarrus Riley, and earned his first record deal with VP Records in 2004. Riley released his debut album in the same year, with his album “Challenges” becoming one of the critical hits of the year.
However, he wouldn't begin to have genuine hits until the 2006 release of his second album “Parables”. Its singles “Stay With You”, “Beware” and “Lion Paw” becoming huge hits in their own right, while the album's third single “She's Royal” was awarded the title of Most Admired Song in the Past 15 Years from Jamaica's CVM TV in 2009. Ever since then, Riley has become so much more than just “Jimmy's Son”. As a hugely respected artist in his own right all over the world, with nominations for Soul Train Music Awards, MOBO's and Reggae Academy Awards to his name. For all that, Tarrus Riley comes highly recommended.

He paces the stage as he sings, clapping his hands and encouraging people to move and dance to “Start Anew”. The stage is lit with small, crystal like lights in purple, gold, and orange which pick up the metal on the instruments, making them shine. The crowd cheers and bobs up and down, enjoying Riley's energy and reggae beats. Tarrus Riley is a Jamaican reggae singer born in the Bronx and raised in Jamaica. He is also part of the Rastafarian movement, as the audience can tell from his long, thick dreads. He started performing as a teenager, no doubt inspired by his father, Jimmy Riley, who was also a reggae singer. Tarrus Riley's first album, Challenges, was released in 2004. He followed that in 2006 with Parables, then Contagious in 2009, Mecoustic in 2012, To The Limit in 2013, and Love Situation in 2014. His music is internationally renowned, and he tours Europe yearly with his group. His has consistently won awards, starting in 2007 with the Jamaica Observer Artiste of the Year, down the UNIA Marcus Garvey Award for Contribution of Music. The long list is a tribute to his skill and strong, positive stage presence. Tarrus Riley brings fresh talent, enthusiasm, and seemingly endless energy to the stage. Watching him have fun and hearing him play his music is a must do for reggae fans.
Jamaican reggae singer/songwriter Tarrus Riley has done very well for himself considering his debut album was only released ten years ago. Now a recognisable name on the circuit and a strong member of the Rastafari movement, the son of Jimmy Riley now attains a fanbase all of his own for his evocative live show.
The atmosphere inside the venue is excitable before Tarrus and his band even step out and when they appear the cheers are deafening. Riley's tone is indescribable, it is smooth and punctuated all at once as it carries both emotion and power at once. The crowd gives him so much energy to work with as he moves from side to side of stage constantly, attempting to address every member face to face. He picks well from across four albums and performs twenty tracks at least so the audience are definitely getting there moneys worth. He speaks passionately about the genre of reggae before finishing on a strong performance of 'Push It To The Limit'.
The show was amazing! The DJ, as always on these events was fantastic!!! The opener, Cannon & The Lion of Judah were fantastic! Eclectic group with authentic reggae sound! Tarrus Riley??? The place was PACKED! His music was beautiful! He played all that I knew and more! His interaction with the audience was great! Nectar is a great venue!
Wonderful atmosphere projected from Tarrus and Blacksoul Band, all the fav tunes played plus the added bonus of the latest release, BB Kings Blues Club, very intimate and close up with the band, As for Tarrus Riley, I'll go and see him and his band when they next play in London, so worth the admission fee.
The show was terrific. Tarrus Riley was very, very good. Great energy, excellent performer and quality lyrics. I liked the venue which was well managed. Good security, clean bathrooms, nice size, not too big but not crowded either, but the bar was quite expensive.
Fabulous, intimate show!!! Perfect venue!!! I know his music but had never had the pleasure of seeing him in person. Wow! So much fun-he and all of the musicians are so talented and energetic. I'll go see him again anytime I can. I left feeling very happy :-)
None stop energy from the whole band. You can tell they spend a lot of time perfecting their craft. This is my second time seeing Tarrus Riley can't wait to make it three. No only is Tarrus a great singer but a great entertainer with great showmanship.
Good show, very enjoyable!! We had the perfect seating spot. TR song popular songs and a few we weren't familiar with, all in all a good performance. Negative: Sometimes the band volume would overcome his voice but still a good experience.
