Biografia

  • Everything Everything (formed in 2009) is a British genre-bending, eclectically-unpredicatble, all-encompassing R&B and indie/art rock band, hailing from Manchester, UK.

From the swooned-over contemporary R&B of Destiny’s Child and R. Kelly, to the eclectically-inclined Radiohead and the emotionally-charged Nirvana, Everything Everything’s influences span years and genres. Formed of falsetto-vocalist and keyboard player Jonathan Higgs, drummer and vocalist Michael Spearman, guitarist Alex Niven, and bass player Jeremy Pritchard, the band’s name derived as a commentary on the state of today’s media culture. After a series of performances that earned the attention of the music industry representatives, Everything Everything signed to the XL Recordings offshoot Salvia and released their debut single “Suffragette Suffragette” in December 2008. The single was produced by respected producer David Kosten and followed-up by “Photoshop Handsome”, which marked the beginning of the band’s excursions into synthesisers.

Everything Everything subsequently embarked on a year of touring before releasing the single “MY, KZ, UR BF” on the London label Young & Lost Club. Released in late 2009, the single introduced the band to a much wider audience and led to a nomination for the BBC Sound of 2010 award in December 2009. Shortly after, the group signed with with Geffen Records who issued the single “Schoolin’” in June 2010. Debuting at No. 152 the single was taken from Everything Everything’s debut album “Man Alive”. Once again produced by David Kosten, the album debuted at No. 17 on the UK Album Chart, earned strong reviews from the musical press, and was shortlisted for the 2011 Mercury Prize.

Known for their unpredictable and eclectic delivery, the band’s follow-up full-length “Arc” arrived in January 2013. Noted for its simpler expression of emotion, the album debuted at No. 5 on the UK Album Chart and spawned the singles “Cough Cough”, “Kemosabe”, “Duet”, and “Don’t Try”. “Kemosabe” was later nominated for Best Contemporary Song at the 2014 Ivor Novello Awards and won the UK Single of the Year at The Music Producers Guild Awards.

  • Everything Everything

I don't know how Jonathan Higgs' voice holds out. Night after night, belting out that raucous falsetto with an intensity and passion you just can't imagine is sustainable. But that's Everything Everything. I've seen them in a bunch of different London venues over the past five years, as they've grown in popularity and musical expression.

Everything Everything aren't easy to categorise – most critics label them "math rock" but there's all sorts in there: lyrical silliness and satire, driving guitars, biting synths, expansive quasi-orchestral arrangements, funky r'n'b drum grooves, and That Voice.

At a live show, Jonathan's vocals can lose something of their crispness, but often the crowd is shouting and singing along too: word-for-word (tumbling out like an unstoppable torrent).

The most memorable recent moment for me was their epic performance of "Cough Cough" at the Village Underground (which is an incredible space). Jonanthan is thumping at a drum, the crowd belting out "I'm comin' alive, I'm happenin' now" accompanied by explosions of light and thunder. The hairs on my skin were standing on end, I was hoarse from shouting, and sweaty with the crush of EE fans bouncing along.

Their most recent material suits live performances pretty well, but it's still the Everything Everything classics that send the crowd wild: "Photoshop Handsome" and "MY KZ, UR BF".

  • Everything Everything have grown in popularity these past years, and are now establishing themselves on the British indie and R&B scene, to great success. I am a big fan of the single ‘Distant Past’, a personal favourite, and enjoy most of the bands tracks. Everything Everything is such a great sound, and deserves a place in the commercial music market, precisely because they are so adept at mixing and blending musical genres and influences. I hear Nirvana, Maroon 5, Radiohead… the list goes on. They are fantastic to watch live: an array of instruments litter the stage and the band move seamlessly from one to another. And that voice. Jonathan Higgs is just as incredible on stage as he is recorded: his unique tones hold out well onstage and never seem to falter. From falsettos to guitar solos, this band has it all. And does it all oh so well. ‘Regret’, ‘Distant Past’, ‘Cough Cough’, ‘Kemosbabe’ and ‘Photoshop Handsome’ all sent the crowd wild, as both new and old tracks were sung to show off the broad style that fails to quite sum up the eclectic Everything Everything.

  • EE has been one of my favorite bands for a few years. I've now seen them three times, the most recent two following album releases. Both times in a surprisingly intimate setting where I found myself bewildered that there were not more fans of theirs in the area. This band needs to be more popular. They are prolific. It's truly unique amazing music and I will never stop seeing them when I have the chance. Their fans know all the (thoughtful and intelligent) words and they love that fact. They don't prompt people to sing, they grin humbly when they hear the whole crowd knows every lyric and has a surprisingly good collective voice. I've brought people to see them and each one has gone out of their way to tell me how much they truly enjoyed the show. This band is truly explosive and don't miss a step on stage.

  • Saw EE last night- Brilliant. I got to stand front row, right in front of Alex (The guitarist). They kicked off with a strong To The Blade, blowing the whole crowd away. Higgs had an extremely powerful voice, putting a lot of passion into his lyrics. Pritchard and Robertshaw (both guitarists) were dancing around, and generally looked like they were having a nice time. All of the songs they played were ace, they couldn't have been better. When they were leaving the stage, Alex took his setlist and handed it to me- showing that they care for their fans. We stuck around for about another fifteen minutes and saw that the whole band had congregated to the merch stand to meet and sign things. All of the members were SUPER nice, and they were all pretty bubbly. Real great concert.

  • A couple of years back on a whim I checked out the live-stream of Everything Everything's Glastonbury set. Loved it and their record 'Arc' quickly became a favourite. I had high hopes for their gig at Oval Space and they didn't disappoint, delivering a set that was a mix of the favourites from their first two records, and tracks from the new record which is out in June. The set was incredibly energetic, and while their lyrics are hard to master, some mass sing-alongs occurred on tracks such as Don't Try and Photoshop Handsome. A great evening and a band who delivered live a sound as brilliant as that which I love on their records.

  • Just back from Reading 2017 and went to see their set in the BBC / NME tent, they were phenomenal. They played about a 50 minutes set and were flawless. How on earth does the lead singer Jonathan Higgs maintain the pace and tone of his magnificent falsetto? Incredible!

We believe these guys should definitely be on the main stage in the future their energy and musicianship would knock it out of the park.

Can't wait to see them live again, hopefully at Dreamland Margate in September.

  • It was absolutely great live performance in a wonderful venue. I did enjoy it not only the performance but just being there. Really nice atmosphere and all staff were friendly and attentive. Only one thing I didnt enjoy is an opening performance......... Well, just not my taste! :)

  • Fantastic performance - No Reptiles was a real highlight for me, though some of the biggest reactions of the night were for their older stuff. The band seemed really humble, grateful to be there, and even took a bow at the end. One of the best gigs I've been to in years.

  • Such a good performance live, so much energy on stage and it made me like them even more as artists. Even made me check out more of their lesser known songs, they are definitely some of my favourite live performers.
