Baths (born April 16, 1989) is the stage name of American experimental and electronic-pop artist Will Wiesenfeld, hailing from Culver City, Los Angeles, U.S.
Will Wiesenfeld’s musical history began learning to play the piano at his own insistence to compete with his brother aged four. Despite giving up the piano, Wiesenfeld didn’t give up on music and had begun experimenting with electronic means of music production by his teenage years. Then one day after discovering Björk’s music for the first time, the musician toyed with a layering production style and taught himself the guitar, contrabass and viola. The result of this ambient experimentation was Wiesenfeld’s debut project [Post-Faetus], which produced the albums “The Fabric” and “Proximity One: Narrative of a City”. Following this Wiesenfeld focused his attention on the more ambient aesthetic of his music, and began releasing tracks under the moniker Geotic.
Baths was born in 2007, however it wasn’t until 2010 with the release of his debut album “Cerulean” that Wiesenfeld starting gaining critical reception . Issued by Anticon Records, the album earned positive reviews from Pitchfork Media and Drowned in Sound and spawned the single “The Nothing”. A year later Baths released the compilation “Pop Music/False B-Sides” before making appearances on songs by Daedelus, Dntel, Nobody, and Flying Lotus. Baths’ second full-length album “Obsidian” was issued by Anticon in May 2013. The album once again won the hearts of critics and fans alike, cementing Wiesenfeld’s position as a talented and respected electronic artist. The EP “Ocean Death” followed in May 2014, which Baths premiered at a show in Hong Kong.
Leia maisIt is truly fantastic when new artists come along and leave a lasting impression on the live circuit. 26 year old Will Wiesenfeld better known as Baths has done just that, in 2010 he was described as 'one of the most exciting new electronica musicians in LA' and since then he has made good on this early prediction.
He has released three strong albums on the Anticon label and with every release the live show has grown and expanded to new heights. Each LP feels like a new cog in a well oiled machine and allows Baths further scope to experiment with the multi-textural sounds of his electro tracks. A great mixture of all three albums is performed this evening all beneath a sparsely lit stage and some hazy smog. The audience remains enthusiastic for almost all the material played but there is clear favouritism for the closing track 'No Eyes with Jam' and the encore selection 'Departure' which receives the biggest cheer of the evening from the whole room much to the bemusement of a humble Wiesenfeld.
So I've seen Baths a bunch of times at a bunch of different venues. I love him and I think he's literally (LITERALLY) flawless. Him touring with Morgan (@grinbucket) only makes the show more lively.
The only time I've ever really seen Will not vibe ultra hard was at the Boston show at The Sinclair where a bunch of people were black out drunk and just constantly yelling things at him. I've seen him handle a girl drunkenly assault him onstage but the heckling was ceaseless so you could tell it kind of bummed him out.
He vibes really well with crowd and loves to talk and always makes it a really intimate experience. Honestly I think he's a brilliant and beautiful performer and deserves to be heard by everyone.
Despite some technical difficulties, Baths played them off with laughs and addressing the audience like close friends chilling at a kickback. They chopped up their beats, screamed, harmonized, and looped the vocals in a way I have NEVER heard anyone do live - and they did it effortlessly and enjoyed the shit out if it.
The audience energy was fed right back, and I made new friends, less familiar with Baths, who left the venue saying, "Okay, knew them vaguely before, now I need every album."
Lastly, I'm sad I discovered them so late, and they will no longer be playing older albums. DAMN YOU defective keyboard! (Initiate audience flipping the bird as a collective unit)

Baths was an interesting experience. It took place outside at a music festival, so there weren't any fancy lights or anything. The keyboard was also out of tune and they didn't play many of their most popular songs. However baths put on a great performance. They are very talented musicians with an innovative sound.
