The Rubens (formed in 2011) is a soulful Australian indie/alternative rock band who rose to national recognition with their debut, self-titled record in 2012, hailing from Menangle, New South Wales, Australia.
Comprised of three Aussie brothers, frontman Sam Margin, guitarist Zaac Margin, and keyboardist Elliott Margin, the Rubens lineup is completed by childhood friend and drummer Scott Baldwin. Since their formation in 2011, the band has become a national presence in Australia, rising to recognition with their debut single “Lay It Down”. Released on the Sydney label Ivy League, the single marked the Rubens’ arrival on the Australian Single Chart and was also voted the 57th most popular song of 2011 by Triple J Hottest 100.
The Rubens subsequently issued their sophomore single “My Gun” later in 2011, accompanied by a music video, which earned a 2012 ARIA Award nomination for Best Music Video. The song also made the Triple J’s Hottest 100 chart landing at No. 10, after which the group issued their debut, self-titled album in early 2012. Once again released on Ivy League, the record catapulted the group to Australian indie-rock recognition, peaking at No. 3 on the Australian Albums Chart. The album was later nominated for Best Album at the Triple J Music Awards, and the single “My Gun” won the Rock Work of the Year Award at the APRA Awards.
Following a successful touring period, the Rubens returned in May 2015 to issued the single “Hallelujah”. The single proved to be the lead track from the band’s sophomore album “Hoops” released in the summer of 2015.
Plus d'infoChampioning alternative rock from the Australian shores are New South Wales quartet The Rubens consisting of the brothers Sam Margin, Elliott Margin and Zaac Margin along with their long term childhood friend Scott Baldwin. They have stripped the live show back to basics and this appears to have gone down fantastically with their growing fanbase in their homeland and has seen them gain attention from international publications.
Despite having only appeared on the circuit in 2011, the boys have been playing as a unit for many years and this is reflected in their stage demeanour as the rapport between them is completely electric and they react perfectly to each other's musical instruments. Therefore you are left with a band who seem far more advanced despite having only played a handful of live shows. The audience is responsive throughout and give their largest cheers for 'My Gun'. The band swiftly leaves the stage yet the impact of their bubbling potential stays with the audience for quite a while.
Literally one of the best live acts you will ever see. Ever. The Rubens killed it at the Forum, their energy spread through the entire room and was ever-present. Absolutely rocked it. Quality tunes backed up the quality of their act. 10/10 would see again.
Good show
Love their music
Gave me more appreciation of their own style
I would go and see them again
HQ in Adelaide felt live a very small venue for such a popular band atm.
