Blondfire are an American indie pop band, comprised of siblings Bruce and Erica Driscoll. They formed in New York City in 2004, and are currently based in Los Angeles.
The Driscoll siblings come from a diverse background, having been born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to an American father and a Brazilian mother. In keeping with the latter, they spent a number of summers during their formative years in the northern part of the Brazil (they hold dual citizenship of both the U.S. and Brazil). This means that they were exposed to a number of Brazilian influences early on, including the likes of Antonio Carlos Jobim, Caetano Veloso and Astrud GilBERTO.
After performing in the band Nectar as youngsters with their older sister Monica, Bruce and Erica soon formed another band, Astaire, which saw them tour with the lies of Robbers on High Street, Stars and Ivy, as well as see their single, ‘L-L-Love’, be made iTunes single of the week. They changed their name to Blondfire after the intervention of Fred Astaire’s estate (he’d later be thanked in the liner notes of their debut record).
Since the name change, the duo have released two solo records, ‘My Someday’ in 2008 and its follow-up, ‘Young Heart’, in 2014. They continue to perform live, with Erica on vocals and a hand-picked group of musicians playing under the supervision of Bruce, who acts as musical director.
Plus d'infoThe indie pop brother and sister duo called Blondfire, started officially in 2004. Their names are Erica and Bruce Driscoll, and they originalyl started playing music from their parent's basement in Los Angeles. They first released their EP called 'Don't Whisper Lies' through their own record label, later on releasing the song 'L-L-Love', which followed with their first national tour with Ivy, Stars and Robbers on High Street. They went on to sign with EMI Records UK in 2006 and following this brought out their debut album 'My Someday' in 2008. The duo actually decided to leave the record label later on the same year after releasing their album. They more recently released their second album in February of this year called 'Young Heart', it's a pretty mellow album that's not really my taste in music. But you have to admire how well they've done in their career, but they're not very big in the UK. The female singer has a lovely voice and had an infectious smile throughout her performance on stage. They knew how to get a crowd going, but I'd say they work best in small venues as they have a long way to go till they're selling out arenas or anything on that scale. They need some more upbeat songs, but maybe that's just me being bias because I'm not a huge indie pop fan. Worth checking out though if you like this style of music, lovely voices, nice songs and performances.
