Biographie

• Christoph Makowski (aka Makko) breathes new life into the German hip-hop scene. His fresh take on rap raises the bar for artists and international music culture.

  Originally from Berlin, the soon-to-be rapper transformed his love for the skate park into a passion for hip-hop. Frequent Instagram postings of skate videos included some of his own beats. The seamlessly chill combination enticed fans and earned him a following. Eventually, he put previous aspirations on the backburner and decided to pursue his musical dream, joining groups like Boloboys on new rap ventures.

  Thanks to Boloboys members like Toobrokeforfiji, Sin Davis, and Okfella, Makko expanded his creativity. He topped off his Boloboys participation with a solid social media presence and gained immediate popularity. Dedicated followers actively supported him on his artistic journey, especially after he finally released his first solo single “Kühlpack”in 2019.

  “Kühlpack” was an exclusive collaboration with German stand-up comedian Vini Paff. Paff’s easygoing energy meshed well with low-key beats and established Makko’s signature sound. Fans couldn’t get enough and eagerly awaited another sneak peek into the rapper’s next project.

  A follow-up to “Kühlpack” needed to be just as catchy and addictive. Luckily, Makko knew what was at stake when he released his first full-length album, Leb es oder lass es (“Love It or Leave It”), in 2020. Its otherworldly, dance-inspired tracks featured heavy hip-hop influence while staying true to Makko’s German roots.

  Leb es oder lass es effortlessly reinvigorated the German rap scene. Makko proved he didn’t need an official deal with a record label to make a name for himself. Of course, his reputation with well-known groups like the Boloboys helped him reach uncharted territory. Overall, Makko’s versatile talent stepped away from radio-friendly rap and laid the groundwork for more impressive discography.

  Must-listen singles, EPs, and albums continued to shake up Makko’s entire catalog. Other releases like Aus dem Block (“Off the Block”), für den Block (“FOr the Block”) and Leb es oder lass es 2 further secured his lo-fi rap vibe. In the meantime, Makko mixed skate culture with his street-savvy music. Ultimately, this epic combination appealed to newer fans, making Makko an essential German artist. It was no surprise when his latest 2022 LP Pass dich nie an, Pass auf dich auf (“Never Conform, Take Care”) achieved steady success in Germany.

  As a relative newcomer, Makko adds a much-needed spark to the rap world. His youthful persona, laid-back beats, and creative direction set him apart. While his tracks showcase a slow-yet-subtle style, they don’t hold back on reinventing rap. Whether on his own or alongside the Boloboys, Makko dedicates himself to diving deeper. Like other artists his age, he takes on the future one step at a time without losing his personality in the process.

  With more music on the way, Makko continues to take his skills seriously. He embraces the hip-hop genre without losing originality along the way. Not many can combine German rap tradition and classic skateboarding culture, but Makko does it all effortlessly.
