Biographie

  • Indigo Girls are an American folk rock music duo consisting of Amy Ray and Emily Saliers both originally from Atlanta, Georgia.

The duo first became friends in elementary school and their friendship grew after both attending the same high school and after bonding over a love of music, they began performing together on the local Atlanta circuit. They then went on to attend the same university in Georgia where they were first known to be billed as Indigo Girls at their weekly shows at The Dugout, a bar in Emory Village.

They produced and released their own debut album in 1987 and this won them attention of labels, securing a record deal the following year. Their second album was self titled and upon release with Epic Records, it charted at #22 on the US Billboard charts. Every album since that release has charted within the top 50 of the Billboard chart, with the 1994 'Swamp Ophelia' remaining their peak at #9. In 2007 the band cut ties with major labels and went back to self-releasing their albums.

Amy Ray has also had a solo career outside of Indigo Girls and promotes independent musicians through her own non-profit organisation. Sailers is a published author and also an entrepreneur in the restaurant industry. Both women identify as lesbian and are ambassadors for LGBT rights along with environmental and political causes close to them.

  • Indigo Girls

Once again,Indigo Girls are on tour, stopping in Ulster, NY at the Performing Arts Center. The venue proved to be the perfect intimate theatre for Amy and Emily, Firstly, Michelle Malone performed and the crowd welcomed her graciously. She is a talented performer in her own right, her music both uplifting and joyful. Look for her in the future, as she has clearly paid her dues and is at the starting gate of fame.

The intimate surrounding at this theatre was perfect as a setting for Indigo Girls. They stood before a sold out house, performing hits from their newest album, One Last Day,peppering in the hits from years of constant perfection. Their candor and welcoming nuance helped to further the intimatcy while they spoke directly to the audience with stories and jokes. The music they played did not disappoint in the least!

The Girls, as their known to their fans, did not dissappoint.

  • 20 years and more concerts than I can count.... Indigo Girls always put on a memorable show. Depending on the tour or venue, they will play in various configurations. Sometime just the two of them playing acoustic, sometimes with a full band backing them (less likely these days), and even with the accompaniment of the local symphony orchestra. What does not seem to change is the great vocal harmonies that Amy and Emily are known for.

I was fortunate enough to catch them once with the local symphony and it was an event to remember. It was not a particularly polished performance. They missed the starts of songs and needed to restart a couple of times. To be honest though, it gave the show character. In retrospect, each time I have seen them has been a unique event. They do not simply rehash the same set of songs, but really try to bring a mix of old and new throughout each show.

  • The indigo girls were brilliant but unfortunately it was let down a bit by the venue. The venue is not a disabled friendly venue, I am disabled and was seated in the disabled area we could just about see the stage until the place filled up and people started standing on the steps in front of us. When we spoke to a member of the venues security team and said we couldn't see anything I was told it's an old building and nothing could be done as it was sold out. After speaking to management myself and career were moved to the side by the stage and given dining chairs. I'm not sure what happened for the other disabled people if they could see the indigo girls Performance.

A Wheelchair user were made to walk up the stairs to the gig even though on the phone a day before told they would be carried up as no lift.

  • It was like closing my eyes and being back in 1995. These women are timeless.

Their voices are seemingly untouched by years of touring and the passion in their music is fully intact, still resonating to a packed house at the Fonda in Hollywood, CA.

They showcased some new songs as well as treating us to the old favorites, inviting the enthusiastic room to sing along and even take a verse here and there. They closed the set with "Galileo" and their appreciation and humility were genuine for the audience that after 3 decades are still loving the music that they share.

I can't believe it took me this long to see the Indigo Girls live, but if it was over 20 years in the making for me, it was worth every minute.

  • Indigo Hirls just get better and better. I don't know how that is possible as they are perfect in my eyes ( and ears) already. Humphreys - San Diego show on July was absolutely fantastic! Rocking it with a full band was such a treat. The Girls played a brilliant set list, mixing it up with old and new and of course the favorites that get everyone on their feet singing and dancing. This particular crowd was extra adulant and I am always amazed at how humble and gracious the girls are with their adoring fans. I can't say enough about what an awesome show this was!

  • Last night was the best night ever! My niece, Hannah Hart, drove in from New Jersey and we went together. I've loved them for 26 years. They were the first concert I had ever seen in 2002 at Radiocity Music Hall. I went with my parents & Hannah's mother my sister, then. It was so awesome they played so many of their old songs too. The lady on the violin was outstandingly talented. Not to mention HC McEntire, she is amazing! Like I said it was the best night ever!!!

  • Was good....though felt a little bit like a karaoke singalong with the amount of people around me wanting to sing lyrics (don't get me wrong....they knew all the lines....so were huge fans....but I came to hear them sing not you).

Anyway was nice to be introduced to The War and Treaty.....bought their cd and been listening to it all morning.

  • The Indigo Girls were as fresh as ever. However, I could not hear the intro act at all due to the crowd noise. It was the rudest audience I've ever been around. Come on people, she was singing her heart out for you.
