Simply the best live roots artist. Kim Churchill has exceptional energy, perfection and a very humble, down-to-earth personality. He sits in a little fortress of drums and guitars and electric pedals and chimes and has his harmonica fixed around his neck. He plays all these instruments more or less simultanously and sings songs about his vagabond life and more, eagerly explaining the background of each song. And his music isn't easy to get off one's mind anymore... Kim looks completely at ease doing all this, plays barefoot and with the greatest smile I have ever seen. Super-addictive! 100% recommendation! Don't miss the opportunity of seeing him, he is often touring in other parts of the world (such as Canada or Australia).
Seth Lakeman usually has good warm-up acts. And Kim Churchill was the best. He's a one-man show. He plays the guitar, plays snare and bass drum with his left foot, tambourine with his right, harmonica round his neck and tinkly percussion bells with his right elbow. He also sings and has an effects peddle. He was so delighted to play at the Oxford Town Hall. Usually he plays in small pubs. His enthusiasm really came across. The intro to one of his songs - in memory of his grandfather - made me cry. He handled a broken guitar string with admirable poise. And he got a bit carried away with the effects pedal towards the end. But that was forgiveable.
kim churchill, the one man band.
he's really good at what he does: singing, playing all of his instruments, and telling funny and interesting stories in between his songs. apparently, the whiskey made him talk a lot, haha. but it was really nice and made the show much more personal and unique.
afterwards he was selling his merch and signing it and he seemed like a really nice guy.
What an amazing performer. Strong vocals, raw energy, great lyrics. We first saw him as a support act to John Butler trio at O2 Arena Shepherds Bush so it was great to hear him in a more intimate surroundings at the Lexington, Angel. No doubt this young singer/song writer/musician will continue to go from strength to strength to become one of the best.
This was the best I have heard Kim sing. His song Rage was a highlight to all the times I have seen Kim perform. It was stunning. Also the venue was a load of fun. All ages with everyone having a good time no excessive drinking no background talking. the venue was perfect for what Kim trying to do.
Great job!!!
Fantastic gig, Kim is funny, willing to chat between songs and puts his all into every song, and plus he's likeable! This tour is slightly different, one light bulb hanging from the roof and one microphone (we'll forget the stage "kick mic" for beats).
Awesome, engaging and a pleasure.
Thanks Kim.
The show was a load of fun. He mixed it up a bit with 3 unplugged accoustic songs and some new material. I've seen him a few times and it was nice he added a bit extra to a few songs and I think he has improved as a live performer. Some songs appeared to be more polished but at the same time quite raw.
A supremely talented musician who puts his soul into songwriting. His performance at the Borderline was full of life and amazed with his abilities to play multiple instruments at the same time. A folk and roots artist to keep an eye on for the future. Oh, and his new album is seriously good.
I have always enjoyed Kim Churchills music but the gig at Soundlounge was nothing but AWFUL. I couldn't hear any of his lyrics properly and left after 4 songs. Im not sure if it was a sound issue or if he just wasn't his normal self. I honestly would love my money back.
