Raheem DeVaughn was born on May 5, 1975 and is an American R&B and soul singer/songwriter born in Newark, New Jersey.
Son of jazz cellist Adbul Wadud and cousin of singer Chrisette Michele, DeVaughn has lots of musical blood, however even in pre-school DeVaughn’s mother said he had an affinity towards music. After graduating from high school, DeVaughn attended Coppin State University in Baltimore City, U.S., and began harmonising with a group of street corner singers, and it wasn't long before he began skipping classes to write and record lyrics.
After winning a talent competition at the Washington DC nightclub named Bar Nun, CEO of Soul World Entertainment Cliff Jones asked DeVaughn to write a song for soul quartet Dru Hill. In doing so the singer caught the attention of DJ Jazzy Jeff and Roc-A-Fella A&R guy Kenny Burns which led to DeVaughn being signed by Jive Records in 2002.
After the successful single releases of “Guess Who Loves You More” and “You” DeVaughn released his major label debut “The Love Experience” on June 28, 2005. The album received critical acclaim, sold around 250,000 copies and reached No. 46 in the Billboard 200.
The music of DeVaughn has been compared to that of Dwele, D’Angelo and Marvin Gaye, with his mix of R&B, neo-soul and soft rock.
DeVaughn’s follow-up album “Love Behind the Melody” was his biggest charting hit, which peaked at No. 5 in the Billboard 200. The album also produced the song “Woman” was the singer’s most commercially successful ingle and was nominated for a Grammy award for Best Male R&B Performance in 2008. The R&B singer’s two subsequent albums “The Love & War MasterPeace”, which received a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Album and the independently released “A Place Called Love Land” both charted well, and secured DeVaughn’s position in the R&B mainstream.
Plus d'infoLast night I was fortunate enough to see Raheem Devaughn and company at a local concert hall. There isn't anything quite like good, live rhythm and blues music to soothe the soul. Raheem's deep lyrics and passionate voice really encapsulates the essence of soul music. The harmony between him and his backup singers was fantastic. They can vocalize so well in a group and really fill the room with a divine sound.
I've always been a fan of his music because of how relevant the lyrics are to the real struggles in life. He hit the nail on the head with Until - almost bringing me to tears because of the vivid image he created for the entire crowd. I think everyone can appreciate the raw talent of Raheem. He's truly gifted and has a great band at his side. Their use of bongo drums, wind chimes, and no produced effects shows his dedication to creating a real soul experience with a modern touch. The rest of the audience was delighted by the performance, and my date especially enjoyed the music because it was "something she could dance to." I think anyone who can make real music that you can dance to is someone definitely worth seeing, so check Raheem Devaughn out if you get a chance!!
Raheem DeVaughn, a master of soul and an overall smooth character. The singer has a wonderfully laid back mannerism that he applies to his live show to make the whole experience feel as though you have walked into his lounge as he sings acapella rather than a sold out venue.
He builds rapport with the crowds instantly and really knows how to charm them to achieve the best reactions to tracks such as 'Woman' and 'Believe'. These recognisable hits evoke big cheers from the devoted crowds and many of the audience join DeVaughn in singalong for the chorus yet they don't quite hit the soulful notes of the lead man this evening.
He talks to them fondly in breaks between the music and introduces his band individually, recognising the talent of his accompanying musicians. By the final soulful tones of 'Ridiculous', the whole room is slightly infatuated with this down to earth, unassuming singer.
I LOVE Raheem Devaughn! His performance at City Winery didn't disappoint. He had loads of personality and was able to garner mass audience participation. Raheem is so relevant as a soul R&B crooner and the words to his songs are deep and introspective. No surprise both shows were sold out. Congrats Raheem, and I for one will always attend your concerts whenever time and money permit. Keep on doing what you do young man with staying power in a world where many are one hit wonders. Not you Raheem, you will always be relevant! I hope to attend a Crank Crusaders concert real soon.
The show was the truth. Started on time everyone was fantastic. Raheem did his thing as usual. He interacts with the crowd at an unbelievable humble. Went all the way up to the balcony and stayed after the show was over to take photos and sign autographs. I live this artist he speaks to my Root Chakra and Heart Chakra. Love his Foundation.
His voice, his stage presence all worth the drive up from Atlanta to hear him. If you have the opportunity his show is always a must see.
I love him in every a TRUE KING” the music was wonderful he has become my Prince I will follow him where he performs but please go to MI so I can go with my sister she is my only family member I have left! I wasn’t going to go because I just lost my brother and have been very depressed I am a little nervous around crowds but And it sucks to be single and hear him and have to come home to B.O.B lol excellent!
I recently had the pleasure of seeing Raheem DeVaughn in concert for the first time. He did not disappoint! The show was awesome, his voice was amazing and his band was on point. I even had the added fangirl experience of getting a picture with him at the meet and greet after the show! He has a fan for life in me and I anxiously await the opportunity to see him again.
As always... Raheem DeVaughn gives an awesome show with his soulful voice. I truly love his artistry and love him because he loves! I would watch and listen to Raheem DeVaughn over and over again! His songs touches every persons spirit. If you like a performance and some harmonizing soulful singing... Rah is the artist for you! Love you Raheem!
Raheem DeVaughn was great at The Vogue in Indianapolis per ususal. he never disappoints. I just wish he had a live band, instead of a DJ. His live vocals sound just as good as any track on his cds. Anyone looking for a good time and great performer, make sure you see Raheem DeVaughn whenever he comes to your city.
Another concert that was so awesome! Started off with Tony Lelo which he was amazing, he is incredibly talented. Leela James was off da meter, her set was great. Raheem DeVaughn did it again, he always does great. I will continue to support these artists, the concert was EVERYTHING.
I absolutely love Raheem and all that he does for the community. The Crossroads show was good but, I really wanted to hear some of his own music.
Thanks to this app I was able to see my favorite artist! Otherwise I would not have known that he was in my city.
