Biographie

  • Ingrid Michaelson, born 8th December, 1979, is a indie pop singer-songwriter, and talented multi-instrumentalist. The New York based half Swedish, half American’s unique sound showcases her talent on the guitar and piano, as well as her vocal abilities.

Michaelson began her Career at a young age, playing the piano, before beginning her professional training with a degree in theatre at Birmhamton University. Before her solo career took off, she was a member of a University a cappella group, with which she was heavily involved. Michaelson refers to her University days in her song The Hat, which can be found on her 2006 album, Girls and Boys.

Michaelson first emerged into the industry through her Myspace page, when the producer of TV Drama Grey’s Anatomy came across her music, which led to her signing with Original Signal Records. Since then, she has released 4 albums, bringing her total number of studio LP recordings to 6. Her album Human Again entered the album charts at number 5, securing Ingrid Michaelson to play several prestigious venues, and also a US, and World tour, all of which were sold out almost every night.

Her music has been critically well received, and her collaborations with artists such as Marshall Altman have gained her much attention. The song Parachute that she co-wrote with the artist in fact went on to be covered by Cheryl Cole, giving yet more mainstream exposure. With another album in the pipeline, it shouldn’t be too long before another fantastic album hits the shelves.

Avis

  • Ingrid Michaelson

Saw her at the Ryman and the show was excellent. She had all the earmarks of a true professional from showing respect to the Ryman's legendary status to the way she arranged her set. She opened with punchy, fun numbers and inserted a mellow, quiet midsection comprised of even solo vocal and ukulele performances and a performance of Hallelujah in honor of the late Leonard Cohen, then ramped back up to a triumphant finish and her more recent big hits. There was a nice mix of the classics and the newer hits and you could clearly see which members of the audience responded to her early 2000's tunes vs the more recent ones. She also kept political talk to a minimum despite the crowd urging her on when she mentioned the election that had wrapped up days before. She said succinctly "If you follow me on social media, you know where I stand, but we all have to stick together and be strong. We're all in this together." Well said. She also told anecdotes and rambled and was extremely easy to relate to, cracking many jokes about her aging and songwriting and such. Fun show, highly recommended.

  • Indie folk singer/songwriter Ingrid Michaelson may have only released her debut in 2005, yet since then she has won huge acclaim from both fans and critics alike. There is a wonderfully personable mannerism to her live performance as it appears that fame is a topic of slight confusion to the singer, often sharing with audiences from further afield her surprise at their knowledge of her music.

There is no doubt that the crowds know the albums well and proudly sing back choruses of 'Winter Song' and 'Blood Brothers' with notably less melodic skill that Ingrid herself. Nonetheless she is incredibly thankful for the support and interaction, noting that the vocal nature of the crowd tonight is refreshing for her. She rewards the UK fans with a cover of 'Parachute' by Cheryl Cole which is reimagined to sound like a folk/indie ditty and not a highly polished pop song. This is where Michaelson's skill is demonstrated best as she is so innovative with both her own music and uses simple strings and guitar to create such delicate, melodic music.

  • Ingrid. Beautiful Ingrid. Talented and inspiring Ingrid.

This was my second time seeing her. First in Nashville and this time in Indy. She exceeded my expectations once again. Her opening band Neulore were fantastic and very personable. A better match than the other band she had last time, in my opinion. Her live experience is something that you just can't quite get from her albums. And if you like her older work, don't worry, she plays a wide selection from all of her albums and even a couple of the songs that aren't part of any collections. Personally I love dancing at her concerts. If this is not your style, please allow those of us who wish to do so instead of giving dirty looks. We love Ingrid, the music, the lyrics, and how it makes us feel. We will express it how we like... plus Ingrid enjoyed it.

I cannot wait to see her again! Her newest album continues to please me on so many levels and I eagerly await her next project.

  • I saw Ingrid at the Ryman in Nashville, TN. AJR opened up for her. I've become a new fan of AJR been to several of their concerts since they just started touring. They are so high energy and have such a different computer generated sound you can't help but get their songs stuck in your head.

Ingrid has been a favorite for quite some time. Her sound just doesn't get old, mix in her instrumental talents and she is just unstoppable. She is so easy to listen to and her voice is just ridiculous. With all of that being said, she is just herself. She is silly, quirky, and seems to have an awesome band with just as much swagger as she does. Even her commentary between songs makes me like her all the more, she makes the crowd comfortable with her.

I'm impatiently waiting for her to come back to perform in Nashville. Love for both groups.

  • When Ingrid hits the stage, you can tell that everything is to her exact specifications. When playing with a band or other singers, every song is tight and perfect.

She is skilled in both singing with or without an instrument in her hands. Over the years, she has far outgrown the venues she plays, packing the house with tons of screaming hipsters. I love seeing her perform with her husband, Greg Laswell. They are brilliant together! She frequently interacts with the audience and is not afraid to toss around some snarky comments if people are being rude or are not paying attention to the show.

She always seems humbled by how she's received, especially by someone who rose so quickly to the top of her game.

  • I give the show 3.5 stars. The Lincoln theater was a great venue. Great sound system and acoustics. I knew that from the opening act. She sounded perfect, and was lots of fun. But when Ingrid went on, the sound wasn't as good. She did say she had a bit of a cold, so maybe that was part of it. There was a good mix of Christmas songs and her old favorites. I know that live music is never as good as a studio recorded song, but there were times when I just wanted the song to end I'm sorry to say. In general the show was fun. I'm glad I went. She did a bunch of talking in addition to singing, and that was at times funny and interesting.

  • The concert was done really well. It was obvious Ingrid was good friends with her band and tour members because they were always involved and the openers kept coming back on stage to join her for songs. She had a great mix of her faster songs, newer songs, older songs and slower songs. She interacted with the audience and sounded beautiful. (looked beautiful too!). Unfortunately during one of the acoustic songs a couple of rude people tried to push their way to the front (I was in the third row of a GA audience) and being pushed around and yelled at took away from the concert significantly and I missed that song entirely.

  • This was my fourth time seeing Ingrid live, and this woman ALWAYS delivers. I've been following her from the start, and all corners of my heart were filled by her setlist selections: from some of her newest gems, including "light me up," to some oldies but goodies (besties, actually) including "the way I am," not to mention some cover songs that were #onpoint ("creep" by radiohead). Thank you, Ingrid, for always giving me and my girlfriends an excuse to sing at the top of our lungs and feel understood/empowered <3
