Biographie

  • Little Feat are a band hailing from Los Angeles, California, United States who formed in 1969. Since their debut, they have released 15 studio albums and remain one of the most acclaimed cult bands of the 1970's.

When your band is hailed by none other than Jimmy Page as his favourite American band while at the height of his powers, you know you're doing something right, but Little Feat are so much more than some famous guy's favourite band. The seeds of the band were sewn when singer, songwriter and guitarist Lowell George and keyboardist Bill Payne met George was playing in Frank Zappa's band The Mothers Of Invention. Payne auditioned, was not successful, but the duo struck up a friendship all the same, and along with Roy Estrada, a bass player who George knew from playing in the Mothers with him, and drummer Richie Hayward, the quartet formed the first incarnation of Little Feat together.

While he wasn't in his band anymore, Zappa was still aware of George's talent, and was instrumental in securing the band a record deal with Warner Bros. Records. The band recorded their first album in August and September 1970, and was released the following January. Their first two albums were critically adored but weren't hits, despite their song “Willin'” becoming a modern rock standard of the time. Because of their lack of success, the band briefly split up before getting back together in 1972, and thanks to evolving their sound to incorporate influences from New Orleans funk, the band started to gain enough sales to keep them afloat throughout the 1970's. It would take something truly tragic to take out the band, and that was exactly what happened when George passed away in 1979.

However, George's longtime co-vocalist Paul Barrere, put the band back together in 1987 along with Payne and a host of others who the band had worked with during their hiatus. To this day, the band are still writing and recording, along with playing some of the best live shows of their entire career. The list of artists who've paid tribute to the band is a mile long and filled with names like Bob Dylan, The Black Crowes and Joe Walsh, and they're still going strong to this very day. For that, they come highly recommended.

  • Little Feat

If you are looking to feast on a rich smorgasbord of sound, at an auditory intersection where heavy West Coast rock tempered with hard driving Texas swing crashes headlong into hot Cajun boogie gumbo resulting in a sonic sensation that’ll delight your ears and set your “feats” to dancing, then my friend you need to jump up outta that couch, shout “HOY!” to anyone who’ll listen and get your ass to a Little Feat show!

Although the band’s history starts in 1969, it really wasn’t until their third album in 1972 that they solidified into the hard rockin’ jam band that still survives to this day. In spite of the passing of founding members Lowell George in 1979 and Richie Hayward in 2010, Little Feat carries on a tradition of pleasing audiences around the world with their eclectic mix of syncopated Cajun boogie funk rock!

The Band now consists of 6 musicians. Bill Payne: most excellent keyboards & vocals, Paul Barrere: smokin’ hot slide guitar & vocals, Fred Tackett: gutsy guitar, magical mandolin & vocals, Kenny Gradney: boomin’ funky bass, Sam Clayton: poppin’ percussion & vocals and the new guy Gabe Ford: doin’ a great job on them drums & putting the beats to the Feats ala Richie, and doin' him proud!

This is a band like no other, ready to take you on a journey through their 30 years worth of great tunes! You should definitely get on yer dancin' shoes and put seeing a Little Feat Live show at the top of your bucket list!

  • I last saw Little Feat in 1979, and a huge fan. I very much enjoyed seeing the band again after all the years. I enjoyed the show, especially Bill Payne on keyboards.

Too bad Paul B. Is working through health issues. Missed his guitar. Get better soon.

The real negative of the night was the sound system. I read about this sound problem in reviews from earlier shows. Unfortunately the kinks were not worked out in time for Chicago performance. It was hard to hear vocals and individual instruments.

  • Wow/...what can I say! The concert at The Keswick Theater was amazing. They were as good or better then I'd ever seen them! Of course it didn't hurt that I was front row center seat. Truly a memorable evening. One of my all time favorite bands! Can't wait to see them again...

    Thanks, Milissa

  • The band was great. I liked the way they would go into one song then jam into another then back to the first one. Similar to the Dead.

The sound for the first 1/3 of the show was awful. Was there a novice on the sound board? Bill Payne was sharp but you could not hear the guitars.

  • Not quite the "boogie" band anymore, tempo has slowed a bit. However the talent of these musicians screams to be heard.A highlite: When they played Robbie Robertsons "The Weight", 3 generations of my family went-- we were all entertained.

  • Band was good. Hard to hear lyrics sometimes.

Got in late because we were ushered to a back door to get in and waited for 20 minutes when the scanner went down. Because of that we missed 20 minutes of the show.

  • Great music, fabulous musicians equals a great show and performance. They performed their hits, but also added in some great blues riffs with extended tunes showing great keyboards, guitar and percussion work.

  • This was such a great concert! They rarely make it up to the Pacific Northwest, so this was a real treat. They sounded amazing and played a lot of their hits. I would love to do this one again.
