Biographie

  • Eddie Money (born March 2, 1944) otherwise known as Edward Joseph Mahoney is an American hard and classic rock guitarist, saxophonist singer-songwriter from New York City, New York, U.S.

Born in Brooklyn, New York but raised in Plainedge, Long Island, New York, Eddie Money became a NYPD trainee before focusing on his music and moving to Berkeley, California, U.S. After becoming a regular at a number of Bay Area clubs, Mahoney caught the attention of legendary promoter Bill Graham through which he secured a record deal with Columbia Records. The singer released his self-titled debut in 1977, after which Mahoney released a cluster of rock hit singles including “Baby Hold On”, “Maybe I’m a Fool” and “Two Tickets to Paradise”.

The early ‘80s brought Mahoney more success through witty narrative videos on MTV along with the hits “Shakin'” and “Think I’m in Love” before his struggles with drug use mounted and a hiatus was needed. The singer’s return to the limelight was with the Top 10 mainstream rock album “Can’t Hold Back” in 1986, featuring the hit duet with Ronnie Spector “Take Me Home Tonight”. The album secured Mahoney's position as a blue-collar pioneer of rock & roll.

Mahoney followed the album up with a similar sounding “Nothing to Lose” in 1988 which featured the No. 9 single on the Billboard Hot 100 “Walk on Water”. The single “Peace in Our Time” released in 1989 proved to be Mahoney’s last Top 40 hit taken from the “Greatest Hits: The Sound of Money”. Mahoney subsequently released the albums “Right Here” in 1991, “Unplug It In” in 1992, and since leaving Columbia “Ready Eddie” in 1999 and “Wanna Go Back” in 2007.

  • Eddie Money one of the best musicians in rock back in the 70's and 80's most may remember his song Take Me Home Tonite, and sadly I never got to see him in concert when I was young.

But, I did finally have the opportunity to see him not to long ago at this casino that was on a old steamboat. It wasn't to crowded which was real nice, no real young people their mostly middle aged folks like me. His performance was out of this world, amazing vocals and acoustics.

It may have been a few decades but his singing is still on target, he's more laxed in his appearance and slightly heavier but hey so am I. What I did notice is that I really really enjoyed his saxophone playing more that anything maybe because I am older too.

The audience was great as well, when he sang everyone quieted down so you could actually hear him and the band and not the sounds of everyone screaming but when he played his saxophone solo's the whole room was clapping and whistling.

His best performances that night in my opinion was Baby Hold On To Me and Take Me Home Tonite. Money well spent.

  • Often described as a natural performer, Eddie Money is now heading towards 70 yet he shows no sign of slowing his gruelling touring schedule possibly due to the fact he simply adores being onstage and playing music live. He seems to thrive on the reaction of the crowds and no matter how many times he has performed he still seems genuinely grateful when the crowds cheer in force at the finale of favourites such as 'Walk on Water' and 'We Should Be Sleeping'.

Having found fame in the 70s and 80s, the artist has a great range of fans proving his music has remained relevant in the following years. He performs with the same energy and passion as if he was half of his age and the audience really appreciate the dedication he still gives to the show. Playing various instruments, he proves music is very much an integral part to his existence and by the closing beats of 'Two Tickets to Paradise' the audience are feeling very grateful to have seen the rock legend.

  • I haven't been to very many non-indie rock concerts in my life, but this one was very memorable.

The night started out kinda terrible, because the opening act was Crashing Cairo, and their sound wasn't set right, so it all sounded like mashed potatoes against a metal spoon, but their album is great, so more or less, it was the tech's fault.

When Eddie's kids' band came along, they ROCKED it. They were intertaining, and sounded great. They were loud, but whatever to that.

Eddie played for the remainder. He was very funny, and he made sure to get your attention all the time. His music brings back great childhood memories, and I won't ever forget that night.

  • Eddie Money still has it. He was awesome. He had the place rockin and rolling. Un our feet singing and dancing. His kids are great. He is truly one of the best in the business and is still going strong. Wish he would release a new C.D. soon.
