  Having discovered Penelope Isles by accident during the recent Airwaves festival in Reykjavík, I was delighted to have a chance to see them again so soon at Oslo.

  The show was as dynamic and entertaining as I recalled - it steadily built momentum from a couple of low tempo numbers into the fantastic crescendo of “Gnarbone”, which included an unexpected poetic interlude from an audience member.

  The set could have happily ended there, but there was another epic tune to follow, which must have been more than ten minutes long and which concluded in such an enormous wall of sound that it rather reminded me of Sigur Rós’s showcloser, Popplagid.

  High praise indeed.

  A great night out - maybe I’ll buy a skateboard next time.

• Exhilarating band in an intimate venue. Superb musicians. Entrancing music. Super friendly people to talk to after the gig. I can't wait for their debut album to come out. I really hope they go onto greater things as I really love their style and they're doing something I've never heard before.
