Biografía

  • Jhené Aiko (born March 16, 1988) is an American R&B/Hip-Hop singer-songwriter, whose popularity grew out of her allegiance with the R&B group B2K, hailing from Los Angeles, California, U.S.

Born the last of three daughters, Jhené Aiko first began earning a reputation for herself in the early 2000s. After signing with Epic Records in 2002, the singer contributed to a host of tracks by the American R&B group B2K, as well as appearing is music videos for her sisters’ group, Gyrl. Having also contributed to songs by O’Ryan, P.Y.T., and the film soundtracks “Barbershop”, “The Master of Disguise”, and “Byou”, Aiko recorded her debut album, “My Name Is Jhené” in 2003. The record was subsequently shelved with the singer focusing on her education.

Aiko returned in 2011 to release the mixtape “Sailing Soul(s)”, featuring high-profile artists including Drake, Gucci Mane, and Kanye West. The mixtape was well-received and resulted in Aiko signing with No I.D.’s Def Jam imprint ARTium the following year. The singer’s official debut single “3:16AM” arrived the same year, following which Aiko made high-profile contributions to Big Sean’ Top 40 Hit “Beware”, and Drake’s third full-length album “Nothing Was the Same”. Greatly increasing her exposure in the U.S. and internationally, Aiko subsequently opened for Drake on his Would You Like a Tour? tour in October 2013.

A month later the singer issued her debut EP “Sail Out”, which peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard 200. Featuring Vince Staples, Childish Gambino, and Kendrick Lamar, the record was a huge success, highlighting the minimalist, airy aesthetic of Aiko’s sound. This appeal was repeated on her debut full-length album “Souled Out”, released in September 2014. Debuting at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, the record was led by the single “To Love & Die” and earned warm reviews from a host of periodicals.

  • Jhené Aiko

Let’s face it. Jhene Aiko is hot.

So now that we have that out of the way, let’s move onto the music. Part of the new wave of up and coming R&B artists in the U.S., the 26-year-old Los Angeles singer plays up her California ways with her bohemian approach to style and sound as well as her light and airy vocals. Her album, ‘ Sail Out,’ has garnered much praise for the achingly beautiful ‘The Worst’ and piano driven ‘Bed Peace,’ which she does with Childish Gambino.

Usually dressed like she’s about to go to the beach, Jhene glides onto the stage like she’s walking on clouds -- sometimes to the point that sometimes you think she’s actually in her own world. But don’t worry, this world is one that’ll relax you for days, or at least for the entire set. Her laid back stage presence is quite Sade-esque, but her lyrics tell a completely different story. ‘3:16’ and ‘WTH,’ featuring Top Dawg Entertainment rapper Ab-Soul, show that her voice can soothe you but Jhene’s words can cut you. Despite the strength in her words, her overall relaxed stage presence might not give you that impression.

Jhene Aiko is not necessarily everyone’s flavor. If you’re looking for something to kick back to, you’re in for a treat. But if you’re in for something more high energy, you might want to find another gig.

  • Overall the Jhene Aiko show at Fillmore Sliver Spring,MD on December 2, 2014 was amazing.

She is and has been for a while now my favorite music artist. She is breathe taking beautiful yet so down to earth. I really loved her song selections she sung everyone if my favorites.

If I absolutely had to make a complaint it would be not about anything she did at all but her opening acts and the production staff at the venue.

Fillmore did not the greatest job of keeping the crowd occupied between acts, we watched them set up every act with very low music it was very akward but hey I'm sure I know how to set up a drum set now lol. I also was distributed that the acts weren't introduced to the crowd as they came onto the stage.

As far as the opening acts I personally before yesterday show have never heard of them before,(Sza &The Internet) I actually enjoyed there music. Their vocal abilities and stage presence where awesome BUT, I was very disturbed by there wardrobe choices. They where dressed as if they just woke up or as if the show was a soundcheck. It was really hard to take them serious as professionals by the way the looked. Considering the huge act that Jhene Aiko is I expected so much more from them.

So I would give the show 4.5 stars out of 5.

  • No surprise at all, in a good sense. She's as beautiful, as skinny and small IRL as in video. Her voice is as deep and sweet as you can hear on recorded live performances. I saw her on her world Trip tour in Paris : a sold out date. The show was insane with some artistic visuals and even marijuana sents filling the room. The setlist was bigger and more complete than the North American one, which was very generous of her. However, she did seem very sad, spoke very little but still said she had spent a bad day and we were cheering up. She even broke out after singing Nobody and had tears remaining in her voice when she sang Oblivion. It only proves how sincere she is in the creation and performance of her craft even more. She shows immense confidence but at the same time, remains humble and fragile. I must mention she's my favourite female artist and I had been waiting for years to actually see her live in front of my eyes. I was from disappointed in the end.

  • This concert was beyond awful. There are no words to explain. I was a fan and now I am not. We waited outside in the cold for almost 2 hours. Doors were supposed to open at 6. We didn't get inside until almost 8:30. We then waited through 2 horrible opening acts and awkward moments where it was clear something was going wrong. People started booing. Finally Jhene came out at 10 pm and said nothing about the almost 4 hours wait. She sounded off key and was acting diva-ish. We left after only a few songs and want our money back. The venue was also horrible. It was an all ages show and the people were shoving each other and holding up their cell phones so you couldn't see anything... It was all around AWFUL. No longer a Jhene Aiko fan. And I go to a lot of shows. I've never had such a bad experience.

  • Amazing!! Such a nice atmosphere, very calming woman with some very wise words. Her music is one of the things that brought me and my partner together, as we talked about her music a lot at the beginning of our relationship, and I decided to treat her to Jhené Aiko tickets for Christmas. And last night, we finally got to see her live and she made us fall in love all over again. Such a beautiful beautiful night, made my entire life!! :))))

  • Amazing...

As someone who listens to jhene songs for a while I would never imagine that she's such a great performer (because most of her songs are not upbeat) but I was mistaking you can see that she loves her music and not the money music gives her (even that I'm sure it's a nice bonus).

She really try to connect and interact with the crowd not being hidden behind a fake "I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!" like a lot of others...

    Go jhene!!!

  • Best live performance I have been to, her visuals and voice was outstanding..the performance was over an hour which was very surprising...considering the stage was small she worked it very well and interacted with the crowd. Tickets were inexpensive which was surprising considering how big of an artist she is. She also sang old and current songs of her new album..definitely would see her again!!!

  • Maaaaaaaaaaaaaan, that concert was epic. Enter the void had a stellar line up of talent with conscious minds. This music elevates. Jhene is the modern day Princess Jasmine. SZA's hair is as long as sight and her voice is smooth. Willow is the future of music and is wise beyond her years. The Internet is just special to me. Great, great show. Hiii PoWeR. -Adonis

  • The Jhene Aiko concert was nothing short of amazing. The music was great and she was a great act and all around spirit that brought out many different emotions at the show. The only downfall would be the disorganisation of the event staff, I felt like many didn't know what was going on. I met some great people. All in all, it was nearly perfect.

Her songs if you are a fan are amazing and the way she sings in person is breath taking and so calming. There’s something about her vibe and the vibe and energy she puts out while she is on stage. I loved her and will be seeing her again the 22nd of december
