August Anthony Alsina, Jr. (born September 3rd, 1992) is an American singer and songwriter from New Orleans, Louisiana, currently signed to Def Jam Recordings.
Perhaps unusually, given the rich musical heritage of his hometown of New Orleans, nobody in Alsina’s family, growing up, was especially interested in music; instead, his love of singing can be traced back to a different influence in his childhood, the film ‘Sister Act 2’ - in particular, the performance of Lauryn Hill. Alsina came from a difficult background, watching both his father and his stepfather struggle with addiction to crack cocaine; the battle would eventually claim the former’s life, during a period of particular upheaval for Alsina that saw him relocated by his mother to Texas in the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
After further tragedy - the murder of his older brother - in 2011. Alsina moved to Atlanta to properly launch his musical career. A slew of early releases, including the mixtapes ‘The Product’ and ‘The Product 2’ brought him to the attention of legendary urban label Def Jam. After an initial EP on the label, ‘Downtown: Life Under the Gun’, proved a modest success, he dropped his debut record proper - ‘Testimony’ - in April 2014 - it charted at number two on the Billboard albums rundown in his homeland, as well as hitting the R&B top ten in the UK.

He first began singing at the age of 14 when he started uploading covers to YouTube and gained his recognition after moving to Atlanta in 2011. After a difficult youth including the death of his father and brother, he has made a remarkable turn around, focusing his energies into his music, something truly inspirational.
Although I Luv This Shit features Trinidad James o the studio recording, Alsina did a fantastic job of playing the track as a solo. His combination of sung and rapped lyrics worked wonderfully, and everyone in the audience was singing and dancing along. He was completely dedicated to the music and his performance, and he even jumped down off of the stage to try and reach the audience (although he was held back by bouncers).
He plated through his debut studio album Testimony, which was incredibly well received by everyone. I’ve listened to every track countless times, so was singing along with most of the crowd. As well as great vocals, his lyrics are powerful, and it was great to hear them live.

The happiness that I felt yesterday was so unattainable to the point where I was crying outta my mind only because I couldn't go back stage to meet August. I loved the opening acts the segment where he talked about God being his number one.I loved how he sung his throwbacks only his true supporters new about, loved that! I loved how I was able to have the same connection with August on that type of level because we have the same love for God.
I was so joyful to support him in anyway i could especially during this trying time. I am a real supporter through thick and thin. I kept track with him when everyone stopped caring for him just because he stopped making music. So I know that he loves his fans who never left him since day one so i'll never stop loving you no matter what the people say.
Since 2011 and forever Love u August!! I'll continue to pray for u and continue to stomp on the devils head right along your side.

August Anthony Alsina, Jr., better known by the snappier August Alsina is the New Orleans rapper who has been causing a stir since scoring a hit with 'I Luv This Shit' a collaboration with Trinidad James in 2013.
This initial success won him the opportunity to collaborate with huge players in the game including Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj and Pusha T. He has used his experiences as a soloist and collaborator to inspire his live show and he has clearly picked up some of the bombast from the likes of Brown and Usher as he confidently swaggers onto stage and takes to the mic for opener 'Testify'.
The crowd instantly jump in time as Alsina runs through a setlist made up heavily from his debut album 'Testimony' as well as older material hand selected from mix tapes which allows the devoted fans their opportunity to make themselves known. The crowd is once again united for a mass singalong to the predictable 'I Luv This Shit'.
I love August Alsina. I have been two three of his shows in the past 5 months. This show was the first time I got to meet him, and sit in the front row during his performance. He was super sweet and super nice during the meet and greet. I was singing every word of every song, and he even looked at me and smiled when he saw me singing. I will always support August. He always has a tender moment during his shows here in Houston because he use to live here. I could see his mom was standing on the side, and when he was singing Make It Home, he turned to her during the end and was singing in her direction. Even though Usher was the headliner, I was there to see August!!! He is Awesome!!!!!!!!!
It's November and I went to this concert in August. I still think about it! I paid for VIP. Which was pretty cheap for VIP and a good deal from what you get. The VIP included meeting August, taking a picture with him, a little pull backpack, t-shirt w/ tour dates on the back, temporary tattoos, and a signed photo. I thought for sure I was going to lose my voice. I was cheering and scream-singing every song. He's super polite and provided a whole experience. I enjoyed myself very much and I went alone! Pretty please come back next year August!
I think it was an amazing concert that i been waiting for a long time to August to get his own concert, but at the same time i was so mad over that the concert ended too early which i was soooo in a bad mood the whole next day.
But i love August Alsina, and i am sooo deeply proud of him for what he do. Me as a young person August is my youngest idol and i love him.
He was amazing, although we did wait a while... It was so totally worth the wait!! His voice was absolutely incredible and his delivery in performance was top notch!! Lol! I even lost my voice during the concert!! Boi! can he make the women scream for him!!
The concert was AMAZING! August gets better and better every time I see him! We cried, laughed, and turned up all in the same night and I'm ready to do it all over again! I will be at every concert August has in Houston, if he there I'm there! ❤
Brilliant show! From the set to the act.. On point! August alsina owned the stage and Koko as a venue has no competition! Great location great artist great night!! More hip hop and R'n'B acts at Koko are needed
Loved the show! All his opening people were great too. The venue was cool and the Meet and Greet made me love him that much more, he really is a great person!
