Biografía

  • Todd Rundgren is an American musician, singer-songwriter and record producer from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Todd Rundgren has released a staggering 23 studio albums and has also produced some legendary albums such as “Bat Out of Hell” for the singer Meatloaf.

Early in his career Todd Rundgren formed the garage rock group The Nazz with his friend Carson Van Osten. Rundgren stayed with the band for the release of three albums between 1968 and 1971, but he was ultimately unhappy with the direction the band was going in and left to pursue a solo career.

Todd Rundgren’s first solo album was “Runt” which he released in 1970. The album spawned a top 20 hit in the US with the song "We Gotta Get You a Woman" which was released in 1970. While Todd Rundgren’s production abilities were noted from the album and he won a lot of opportunities to produce other artists’ records, the album itself failed to do that well in the US and Rundgren decided to change styles for the release of his next album.

1972 album “Something/Anything?” was a hit compared to “Runt” and peaked at number 29 on the US Billboard charts. The album was fully produced by Rundgren who provided everything from the lyrics, to the instrumentals to the production itself. The album contained two hit singles, “I Saw the Light” and “Hello It’s Me”, which were both top 20 hits in the US.

With the exception of 1978’s “Hermit of Mink Hollow”, which charted at number 36 in the US, Todd Rundgren’s subsequent albums failed to live up to the success of “Something/Anything?”. Nonetheless, Rundgren’s extensive and impressive production abilities have allowed him to continue putting out work and exploring sounds and ideas up to the present day. Greatly respected for his production skills, Todd Rundgren has worked on numerous albums for artists such as Meat Loaf, Patti Smith and Shaun Cassidy, amongst others.

The Unpredictable Tour show in the Memphis Daisy Theatre was quite entertaining and unpredictable as the name describes!

No complaints whatsoever. Todd and his players still have the voice, showmanship and I cant say enough about the venue. It was like having your own private show in the comforts of your own home with a music legend!

I wish I could remember his set list but he probably doesn’t even remember himself it was that casual of an evening (that’s not a bad thing). Todd was personable, interacted with the crowd as if we were his friends just hanging out together.

The set mix included many covers you’ve rocked to or laid back with in the past. As well as a good number of his own classics.

He’s the kind of guy I’d like to hang out with and hear some great stories or laugh your ass off!

He gets a 5-Star rating in all the categories as far as I’m concerned...musicianship, entertainment and of course, his timeless tunes.

Don’t miss Todd and/or his Utopia tours if anywhere close by...you’ll regret it if you do.

i.e. the recent Tom Petty and Joe Walsh tour in 2017. I’ll never make that mistake again...once was enough.

  • There are no rules for a Todd Rundgren show except one: he does not do requests. As such, throw away expectation. Shows have ranged from epic, pyramid-leaping, gonzo prog rock to acoustic-only solo of his most accessible ballads. The arena days are gone. More often, he can be found at venues not to exceed 2,000.

He's also become more or less a fixture in Ringo Starr's All-Star tours.—a pricey but enjoyable peek into his live energy. The casual listener would likely prefer his BEST OF show which captures the radio-friendly tunes and exposes his wit. But his music is so eclectic, reactions to shows are as broad as his range. If you are lucky, he will bring out some lead guitar, or do one of his albums live verbatim.

Pay attention to show reviews, and don't be disappointed if he doesn't do HELLO, IT'S ME. Rundgren's productions have put his stamp on modern recording, most notably Meat Loaf's BAT OUT OF HELL. He took on the project because he thought Jim Steinman was making fun of Bruce Springsteen. What a card! Recommending listening is 1978’s BACK TO THE BARS. He’s been miles since, but that LP is the essence of what makes him great.

  • As always, Todd brought game. One of the best shows, if not the best show I've seen, and I've seen a huge amount of them. Those that came hoping to hear "I Saw The Light", "Can We Still Be Friends", "Bang the Drum", etc. probably left a bit disappointed. The majority of the set was from his more recent LP's, "Liar", "State", "Arena" and his most recent release "White Knight". The majority of the tunes were hard driving "Toddrock" and he and the boys NAILED IT. Todd was in perfect voice and obviously still loves what he does. They did treat the crowd to an encore of "Hello It's Me" (Jazz Version), "One Love" and ended, as always, with "Just One Victory". They had a "meet and greet" prior to the show and I finally got the opportunity to meet my Babe Ruth of Music. A nicer man he couldn't be. He was in great spirits and spent time chatting and making everyone around him comfortable with his presence. For as long as he tours, I'll not miss a show. Great night and perfect way to bring in the new year!

  • American hard rock musician and multi-instrumentalist Todd Rundgren has had an incredibly interesting musical career that spans almost half a century. At the age of 66 he continues to tour around the globe and many consider his dedication and adoration of being onstage to be the main reason he appears to be maintaining both his vocal ability and musical talent. He plays the guitar with a skill that is only attainable with decades and decades of practice and he is able to manipulate riffs and add instrumentals to classic tracks such as 'I Saw The Light'.

He is a very witty frontman, often joking with his audience as a whole and turning the mood to one of complete light heartedness before unleashing singalong tracks such as 'Bang the Drum All Day'. His power pop sounds have been a major influence on contemporaries and it is clear to see why when Rundgren and his band recreate bold tracks such as 'Hello It's Me'. His music is moving and the anthemic quality will see his legacy live on for years to come.

  • Excellent show. 2 hours and 45 minutes inclusive of 20 minute intermission. Outstanding crowd, Liberty Hall was packed....line extended around corner an way down block..took a long time to get in. I am sure some folks missed start of show asa result. Liberty Hall was not prepared security wise. Loud drug induced blond kept yelling from secod row of balcony, then came down to floor and jumped(i.e. crawled) o stage. Kasinm i tervened quickly and grabbed her arm and dragged her to security. Lady then got kicked out....but wait there is more....she went atound to front of buildin...past the sleeping security.....and came back uo to her seat. Finally sometold an usher who sent security up 2 to evict her! Funny thing is her catatonic hubby stayed for show...not to mention enabled her screaming and stage climbing venture..

Nonetheless the music was outstanding.! Dont miss this tour.

  • Wow. I don't know what to say, where to start. One of the best concerts I have seen in years. Todd, why have you been hiding? I forgot what an incredible rapport you have with the audience, without even trying. The evening was magic.

I can't believe how well both Todd and Kasim's voices have hung in. While the full range isn't quite there, they both sang incredibly well. I've been humming "love is the answer" to myself all day today. I listened to the studio version today, and I have to say it was way way way better live last night. That was true for so many of the songs. The sound quality was incredible, the arrangements were perfect and the power and emotion they put out were almost overwhelming.

A five star concert. If you are a fan of Utopia and/or Todd you must see this concert. If they were in the area again I'd go tonight!

  • I was fortunate to see Todd on his Unpredictable Tour at the Daisy Theatre on Beale Street and the whole evening went flawlessly and resulted in another great music event!

The Daisy was at full capacity but kept that "Up Close and Personal Jam Session with Todd in your Living Room" feeling...what could be better?

The Unpredictable Tour name was spot on with Todd and the band playing pretty much whatever they wanted. The vocals were a "Spot On" mix of Crooner tunes, 80's classics and of course mixed with Utopia originals.

Todd still has the Pipes and the band was tight on! All very talented singer musicians...impressive and admirable at my/their ages.

Final note...don't miss the show! You'll regret it like my 2017 Tom Petty/Joe Walsh questionable decision not to attend :(

  • I'm a big fan and I've seen Todd Rundgren (including with Utopia) on 4 different tours, going all the way back to 1977. I'm sorry to say, but this was the least memorable concert that I've seen of his so far. Firstly, the audio was just not good. I don't know if it was his own equip or the venue's, but the sound was too loud, distorted and flat. The 1st set seemed uninspired to me and I was more entertained by the background art than Todd's performance. The 2nd set picked up, with a few of his bigger hits, which got the audience more involved. By the last few songs most of the audience was on their feet and dancing. Still, it doesn't rank up there in my list of top shows. A friend in another state asked if I'd recommend it, my answer was "not really".

  • Great show. Todd was in great form. It is amazing how great is voice is after all these years. He is in really top form. I think he was pacing himself a small bit compared to the Utopia show I saw a few months ago, but given that he was doing 3 shows, 3 nights in a row I can't blame him.

It was a great show, lots of interaction and sharing of stories. The first half was predominately older tunes back to the early days. Second half was more recent material.

Saw the show at the Danforth in Toronto. A tired old venue. It was probably great 50 years ago but while not literally falling apart now, it's close. I wish Todd's people had booked him into one of the many superior venues in the area but c'est la vie, I go to see Todd where he plays!

  • Went to see Todd Rundgren a couple of nights ago (4 Dec 15) and was absolutely in awe of the bands tightness, sound and energy. Not one sour note from anyone in the band. Todd can get the best from some of the best in the business!!! Black Maria took me back to my basement in 1973 and brought me back to the the show in one song. I think that show took me to as many places as I EVER have been during one show. What a great ride it was!!! He put the Chicago Dead show to shame!!! I'm sorry Jerry...you weren't there to save the day, though. Todd blow the stage up!!!
