Mod club was a great venue as usual. The first opening act, KAINA was fantastic! She had such a powerful, silky voice and such a fun and engaging stage presence! Her music had emotionally driven lyrics set over catchy synth piano melodies and smooth drum beats. It all came together into a fantastic poetic R&B ensemble. Her lively energy and very open attitude drew you in easily and it is no surprise She got the whole crowd to sing along to songs that no one was previously familiar with
She was such a blast to open up the show. The next act, La Dona, had much more overt Spanish inspiration, taking many of her songs right from mariachi and raggaeton origins. The crowd had a little more trouble getting into her music but this is probably more to do with the Torontonians unfamiliarity with these musical backgrounds as well as the Spanish language barrier than to do with La Dona's in-your-face presence, often inviting the crowd to dance, or shake-it to certain songs (even giving a demonstration). She was fun and her songs were musically diverse and showcased her and her band's talent well.
Finally Cuco, I was dissapointed to find, was the most lacklustre preformance of the night. He didn't address the crowd at all up until his third-to-last song, instead choosing to go right into playing. He seemed withdrawn on stage and disinterested in his preformance. The crowd was definitely looking for reasons to get excited though, getting hugely excited when Cuco brought his trumpet out to play and some crowd members near the front-right section exploding with energy for the introduction and chorus of some favourite songs. One girl from the show I spoke to on the train ride home assured me he was just under-the-weather because he was feeling sick. He did turn it up for a couple songs near the end, inviting the crowd to turn their phone lights on, but these attempts to bring energy at the introduction of the final songs soon petered out when he went back to his playing. It just wasn't enough to bring the crowd back from the previous 35-minutes of underwheling experience.
Overall underwhelming. 2/5
I drove 45 minutes just to make it to the venue and sit an hour and 30 minutes early in line. Naturally you'd think I'd have pretty decent spot right? Well I thought I would too, but that was up until the security guards decided to split the line. People who were previously behind me in line ended up in front of me. Security guards probably thought it was more efficient to go through the line to mark anyone under 21 (Mission Ballroom serves alcohol). It just lead to people who make the effort to get there 2 hours early to get upset. That whatsoever had nothing to do with Cuco. Cuco was high energy, had great vocals, and the visuals were trippy/great to look at. KAINA and AMBAR LUCID killed it as well. Amazing performers, but Mission Ballroom security were unorganized and it could have gone a lot smoother.
Honestly, this was the best concert I’ve ever gone to, and that’s a lot since I’ve seen Lana Del Rey, Selena Gomez, Jacob Sartorius, and Imagine Dragons. Cuco just makes the vibe feel much different, he’s so energetic, nice, and he shows love for his fans. He deserves the path he’s going through right now, he’s already gone a long way but I’m pretty sure he’ll be hella big. Much love <3 Dallas Loves You
Cuco was great he gave us a little show over his new album coming out on July 26 it was great it was my first concert and it was great I can’t wait for my next one triathlon played so beautifully and after the show triathlon signed my cd and I got to take pictures with them it was a great experience
okay i can’t even like i would rate the show 5/10, reasoning is i didn’t spend over 60$ to watch the beginning performers for 2 hours ;( i felt like we barley got to hear Cuco, of course i was excited and hype that he was on stage but the time limit seemed so short and it was very underwhelming
Top notch concert, great performances. Fun ass atmosphere thanks to the hype crowd and Cuco was freaking amazing!♡ Everything was ten outta ten, the merch cuco had is bomb af and affordable. Definitely going to his concert next time he comes to phx
