After years of relentless touring, EDM producer, promoter and label owner Steve Aoki is now recognized as one of the most exciting live performers in the world.
Born in 1977, he was the son of a famous Japanese wrestler and restaurant-chain owner Rocky Aoki eventually going on to graduate from the University of Carolina. While still in his twenties he found the time to form a record label named Dim Mak in homage to his childhood hero Bruce Lee.
In its infancy, Dim Mak was known for working with a diverse range of artists from all genres and has been instrumental in launching the careers of artists like Bloc Party and The Gossip. The label soon began to focus more on Steve’s specialty, electronic music, and is now recognised as one of most influential establishments in the dance music world.
The label’s profile was further boosted with the release of Aoki’s first album ‘Wonderland’. Featuring artists as diverse as Weezer’s River Cuomo to Kid Cudi it was a huge success with every song on the album being released as a single with its own remixes.
To support his music Steve tours constantly and has become known for unpredictable and exciting live shows. Even while performing an average of 250 shows a year he still finds the energy to be crowd surfing and dancing with his crowds all of which helped him to achieve 6th place in DJ Times magazine’s ‘America’s best DJ competition’ in 2013.
With the release of the first part of his new double-album, ‘Neon Future’ on Dim Mak, Steve looks set to continue to be one of the most popular electronic artists in the world.
Leer másThere no denying the Steve Aoki is epic when it comes to his live shows. He clearly does what he does for no other reason than “because its fun.” He’s been known to crowd surf, spray champagne all over the crowd, and crowd raft…yes raft. EDM sets are always energetic, but Steve Aoki seriously takes it to another level.
Unfortunately for me, the set that I caught him was very mild, mainly due to the location in which I saw him. He was the headliner for the EDM stage at Heat Festival at the University of California, Riverside; but by stage, it was really just the third floor of the Commons area in the middle of campus. What this really meant was that there was no crowd surfing of any sort, but the set was still sick. Spinning things like “Warp,” “One More Time” remixed by him and, my personal favorite remix of Kid Cudi’s “Pursuit of Happiness.” His transitions and fade-aways are flawless!
I really wish that I could have seen him in a better setting, and plan to eventually see him again, maybe for his Afroki collaboration with Afrojack. Regardless, considering I didn’t have to pay for this festival, I’m satisfied with the set that I was able to see from Steve Aoki.
Steve Aoki is a one man party more than a DJ. His live show is perhaps more acclaimed than his music due to the unpredictable nature of the frontman who has been known to shoot confetti cannons, douse the audience with champagne and jump down into the crowds to rave along with them.
The Japanese-American producer sets the bar high with his show. He has performed at some of the biggest dance events around the globe including Tomorrowland and Rock In Rio and his elaborate stage set up complete with impressive light displays and bizarre visuals have drawn revellers to his sets in massive numbers.
The huge spinning cog behind him keeps the beat continuous as lights shower down on the audience as they dance along to 'Neon Future'. His biggest moment comes when he drops his collaboration with Linkin Park, 'A Light That Never Comes' which evokes Steve to turn from DJ to hype man as he climbs atop his decks and gets the crowd to wave along in unison. The finale of Niki the Dove's 'DJ Ease My Mind' is a hedonistic dance experience that proves that with just two albums, you can create one huge party.
The Venue was too small for the amount of people going. Or maybe how they handled the entrances to go in to the main room was poorly planned. Aoki, was off his CDJ's a lot of the time, a little suspect if you tell me. I never saw any security walking around to make sure the night was safe from drunks. I personally Stopped a fight from one drunk muscle retard smashing an innocent poor kid face inn. Looked around and even asked the bar keepers to call security. They said they couldn't help. An why did Migo's even show? I went to enjoy some Aoki, Progressive House and a little trap.
Steve Aoki is good at throwing a show, but he does not DJ. There are crazy light shows, lots of confetti and if you are in the front you will get champagne or cake on you. He is always super amped and gets the crowd amped too. If you are a fan of his music and the stuff that is popular then hit up his concert to get 'turnt up' and have a crazy time. Don't forget to go half naked with glowing things and beads :) If you want to see some good mixing don't bother, he just presses play.

It was the best concert we had in years!!!! Even in a large and can-barely-move crowd, we felt like we were in a house party that is too personal!! Definitely an EPIC night and a great birthday treat for our friend!!!! We've been caked!!! :)
Amazing Aoki. He puts on the best show with insane drops. Steve Aoki’s performance is by far the best I’ve seen, and probably better than all other DJs. Good venue, sick crowd. Could’ve thrown a few more cakes to be fair tho :)
The concert was great but the organisation was dreadful. I got in at 8.30 and I couldn't leave my stuff at the cloakroom as the queue was AT LEAST 1 hour long and it took me 30 minutes to get a drink, some Barmen were quite slow
Steve Aoki was a great performer. It was my first time seeing him live and he knows how to amp up the crowd. It was at a nightclub so I didn't think he would throw cakes but he threw like 6-7 cakes so that was super fun.
The show was awesome and outstanding it was so much fun steve aoki was the best performing Dj that night he played amazing songs loved them all and I wish I can go back in time to see it again and again and again❤️
