Delain are a metal band hailing from Zwolle, Netherlands who formed in 2002. Formed by ex-Within Temptation keyboardist Martijn Westerholt, they have released four studio albums since 2006 and have become one of the most succesful and respected symphonic metal bands of their generation.
Great art often comes from the most trying of times, and Delain are one of the best examples of this. In 2001, Martjin Westerholt was forced to leave his band Within Temptation as he was suffering from Pfeiffer’s disease, and although he was soon cleared of the disease, he still needed to take the rest of the following year off to recuperate. Of course, for Westerholt, recuperation meant putting together a band with several local musicians to him and recording a demo tape under the name Delain. The band were never intended to be a genuine project however, and once the demo was recorded Westerholt left the band behind to focus on other projects. However, in 2005 he teamed up with vocalist Charlotte Wessels to restart Delain as an entirely new project, signed to Roadrunner records and began work on their debut album “Lucidity”.
The album was written and recorded without intending to ever perform the songs live, with Westerholt and Wessels tapping members of other Dutch metal bands to record the record with. However, the critical and commercial response to the album was so positive that Wessels and Westerholt formed a live band to tour the project shortly after the records release in Septmber 2006. Ever since then the band have remained one of the must see symphonic metal acts of today, with three further hit albums in their native Netherlands released since their debut and hugely acclaimed live shows performed all over the world. For coming back from fire circumstances and becoming one of the most acclaimed metal bands of modern times, Delain come highly recommended.
Leer másThis is a metal band that has a female lead vocalist. The vocalist has a sweet yet strong sounding voice and the band accompanying plays really deep bass and nice sounding keyboard in the back. The band sounds like a metal band but is more like an Evanescence kind of band, female vocals with strong band sound.
The Dutch metal sound is apparent but I could easily hear this on the radio as number 1 hit. The clothes are metal/rock, they differently fit the the whole rock look, the lead singer is usually in some sort of dress and the rest of the members are in shredded shirts and jeans and/or leather.
The band's audience can be energetic in the live performances but as I watch and listen to Delain, it's not really the metal that you thrash your head kind of metal but really pleasant melodic metal. The concerts are performed at music halls. The songs that are played are from the albums that were made in the previous and most recently. I'm interested in seeing this guys live I've always been a huge sucker for the rock/metal bands with pretty lead vocalist and soft voice, they remind me of Flyleaf and a little bit of Paramore, so I would enjoy seeing them live.
An all round amazing show, first time at the Koko and I'll definitely be going back. A fair bit "calmer" than I was expecting (no pits etc) but still very energetic.
Kobra and the lotus were really good, got the crowd warmed up well and really looked like they were having a good time. Musically incredibly tight.
Evergrey were absolutely killing it, tonnes of energy. Had the crowd clapping, singing and bouncing. They also signed my ticket for me so I was happy!
Delain absolutely killed the night though, played a good selection of stuff from a lot of different albums. Tonnes of energy and a great sound.
Oh wow. I'll admit, when I went to the Nightwish Concert being fronted by Sonata Arctica and Delain, I knew Nightwish would be epic, and expected awesomeness from Sonata too. But I did not expect to get blown away by Delain as well!
Just as (if not more so) energetic as the other bands, heart-pounding awesome music I never heard before (I knew only some of their older stuff), and very crowd-oriented - there wasn't a song they did that she wasn't getting us to sing, clap, or do something with.
Delain started their new tour by a concert in Paris that was sold out. They played a mix of their old best songs and their new album.
Marco Hietala joined them on stage many times and sang with Charlotte and the ambiance was incredible, a real delirium !
All the people took pictures with their mobiles but we do not know if it was Charlotte or Merel who was the most shooted...
Their show was great and we really hope to see Delain again in Paris quickly !
WOW, what more can i say, what a night in the classic grande.Delain performed extremely well, fantastic vocals,great harmonies, brilliant musicians, an extremely entertaining group, well worth going too, will definitely go back to see them when they come back to Glasgow.
Evergrey performed well,rocked the house and warmed the crowd up well.
Overall a fantastic midweek adventure.Rock-on..........
Delain was better than I expected. Got to tell the lead singer she is sexy. That was totally worth it. I highly recommend this show.
Furthermore, it was my first experience at the Mercury ballroom in Louisville, KY. I must say that I was very impressed with the layout of the venue. I believe any show at this venue would be a great show.

Kickass show; best crowd I've ever experienced and amazing performance from Delain. Sound was well balanced and no artist was drowned out (i.e. you could hear the vocals clearly, you could distinguish the 2 guitars, etc). I hope I'm able to get the opportunity to see them again soon!
Great live performance of the band, headed by Charlotte with a great live vocal. The rest of the crew did a good job in making it a memorable performance with great spirit, making the small venue they played in a caldron of great atmosphere humming along to the beat.
Awesome warm up, incredible atmosphere of gathering and drive. It was much better than I could even imagine. Every single person who created this concert has done a great job. If I had a chance to see it again in Hamburg I'd buy a ticket immediately.
Well, Charlotte and her band are " THE MAX " good music (i already knew that) good entertainmant, and in my opinion, she is one of the best bands.
