“The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” an old adage that can be both positive and negative for a person, and in the case of Bugge Wesseltoft, he took after his dad to become a successful jazz musician. The piano playing jazz musician seems as quirky as his music, almost making a new sort of subgenre of jazz, no doubt that it is unique. He works and performs solo, but also participates in a lot of collaborations, which results in the making of epic new jazz pieces that are always different. The art of jazz allows the music to remain unique. No show is exactly the same as the one before that or the one after that. What sets Bugge apart is his use of electronic tracks, which are the only thing that remain consistent from show to show. He then builds upon those tracks with his instrumental talents to make each show an individual. The shows are extremely lively, and everyone is dancing, or at least moving their head along with the music. The uncontrollable urge to dance is only influenced by the fact that the transitions between songs are super smooth so it seems like it is just one very long, very fun dance party.
Fabulous. One man, a Steinway piano, a fender Rhodes and some other not immediately recogniseable instruments plus.....and here's the important bit, a tablet. Within the perfectly modern jazz surroundings of Turner Sims Hall Mr Wesseltoft blended beautiful solo piano with some thoroughly avante garde electronic Jazz. Perfectly blended together to please those who prefer traditional jazz renditions and those who are interested in a new approach this was perfect with my less Jazz orientated wife only once saying it was 'self indulgent.' By the end of the show she had changed her mind and that's because it becomes clear how Bugge loves his music and his vision of modern jazz grows on you quickly as you watch him layer sounds to create his own electronic backing orchestra. A really interesting show with a very pure music whether acoustic or electronic which made the whole experience 'cleansing' if that's not too pretentious a thing to say.
The show was great and the location (old church) was the perfect background for his piano solo x-mas special. It was awesome to see and hear how Bugge lives his music while performing. To be there with him when he develops a song track by track until a composition takes form and then he plays a second and third layer on top of this to his own and the spectators delight - awesome! However, I could have listened to and watch this master a lot longer than only 1 hour and 20 minutes, that was a bit of a letdown. Bugge took his time though to sign CDs bought at the merchandizing stand after the concert and I am listening to this very special and moving recordings ever since...
Impressive solo piano concert with Everybody loves angels. Great venue, with perfect acoustic.
What you ve heard on the album is total different live, beautiful improvisations, inspiring switches from a feeling to another. His music is very open. Bugge has the special ability to catch you in his world giving you intense emotions. It s a gift for life to listen to a live concert with him.
Saw Bugge and friend's at this venue 2 years ago after discovering him via Giles Peterson's Worldwide series, had bought a couple of his albums. But this concert featured a guest Dj to lay the beats down. Bugged is very very funky, a bit like a geography teacher who has been hypnotized to believe he is George Duke. Nice cozy venue, seriously reasonable prices. Don't miss him next time
The new project of Bugge Wesseltoft with New Conception of Jazz is an amazing show- every young musician of the band is very special (an advice: follow each of them!). Emotions, creativity, communication, performance at high level.
We came for this concert from Slovakia.
It was amazing performance, great experimental music. Roxy club was realy nice. I recomment to see it and enjoy. His new noises was excellent. Great drum and percusionist performance.
Fantastic concert!! So generous! I had a great pleasure! Two hours of music, two sets, energy, power, improvisation and melody! What can we ask more? Hope to see next Rymden’s concert as soon as possible...

amazing show! it was creativity at high level, so impressive what they do together! highly recommend to go to their concerts!
One complaint, Bugge should address the audience. Even in faltering English would be OK.
Union Chapel is a great venue but the gig would have been so much better if we stand up and move to the music.
