Despite their name suggesting otherwise, Alberta Cross actually hail not from Canada but from the United Kingdom, specifically London, where frontman Petter Erickson Stakee found himself living after upping sticks from his native Uppsala, Sweden. He met bassist and co-founder of Alberta Cross, Terry Wolfers, at a bar in Shoreditch in the early noughties, and by 2005, Alberta Cross had been born; they signed a deal with Fiction Records after playing only four live shows. The debut full-length that resulted, Broken Side of Time, met with strong reviews across the board and both satisfied the band’s already existing cult fanbase and won them a legion of new followers, too. They followed that up in 2012 with Songs of Patience, and despite a less favourable critical reception than last time out, the band still toured the world with an expanded lineup, playing thrillingly energetic shows across the globe. Since then, it appears that Wolfers has departed the band in order to begin work on a debut solo record, but Stakee continues to use the Alberta Cross name - now describing the band as himself and friends - so look out for more dates son, around the time album number three sees the light of day.
Would you say that going to a John Lennon concert is the same as to go to see the Beatles? probably not. Well, same here I was expecting to see Alberta Cross and found out it was the singer by himself. Don't get me wrong, he was amazing. Only few people can stand a show by theirselves and achieve such amazing atmosphere and intense moments. He even brought a loop pedal and other toys which made it even more interesting. But I waited so long for the fullband show, and even got tickets for friends that didn't know about the band. I was so looking forward to see their faces when the band was playing, but no band, no drums, no rock. And again, If he plays again a solo act in London I'm definitely in, BUT please don't call it "Alberta Cross", because Lennon is not the Beatles. Thanks.
First time I've seen them, all round a very good show. Whacky little venue in St Pancras Old Church, acoustics aren't great, you'd get much better in a proper venue, which his unique voice deserves. Good mix of old and new, and a very moving tribute to Frightened Rabbit. Not so sold on the cover of Bowie's Five Years however. Would definitely see them again, though preferably in a larger venue where they can thrash out a bit more rock.
Really boring and short concert. Well played, but they have many more songs they could have played. Never more, it has been a waste of time and money.
I didn't like too much the venue too, but I was expecting something like that
