Biografía

  • CKY (formed in 1998) is an American alternative metal and experimental rock band, known for their outspoken nature and allegiance with members of TV show Jackass, the band hails from West Chester, Pennsylvania, U.S.

Originally based out of West Chester, Pennsylvania, CKY’s roots are grounded in vocalist and guitarist Deron Miller and drummer Jess Margera. The two met during high school, began playing music together and eventually formed the experimental metal group Foreign Objects in 1994. After the release of their debut EP “The Undiscovered Number & Colors”, the pair decided to take their music in a more commercial direction and changed the band name to Oil. With live bassist Andy Smith added to the ranks, who was later replaced by Ryan Bruni, the group released the EP “Lifeline” in 1996. With the subsequent addition of record producer and engineer Chad I Ginsbury, CKY (Camp Kill Yourself) was born, and the pop approach of Oil was dropped.

CKY’s debut album “Volume 1” was issued by Teil Martin and Distant Records in February 1998, accompanied by the unofficial compilation “Volume 2” the same day. In support, the band embarked on a small national tour and the 1999 Warped Tour, however were later kick off for joining a fan protest. CKY subsequently signed with Volcom Entertainment on the condition they change their name simply to CKY and album cover, which were both considered too offensive. Following Volcom’s reissue of the debut album, the band recruited Vernon Zaborowski to replace Ryan Bruni on bass, in anticipation of the year’s Warped Tour. In July 2000 CKY released their first official EP “Disengage the Simulator” and earned a host of exposure though their allegiance with MTV and the stunt show “Jackass”.

Featuring a more focused and polished alternative metal sound CKY’s sophomore album “Infiltrate Destroy Rebuild” arrived in September 2002 on Island Def Jam. Despite attempting to tour alongside Axl Rose’s doomed Guns N’ Roses reformation, the band rose above their Skate-associated peers and developed a huge and devoted following. The DVD “Infiltrate Destroy Rebuild: The Video Album” was released in November 2003, after which Zaborowski left and Ginsburg filled in on bass.

In 2005 CKY released their third full-length album “An Answer Can Be Found” once again on Island/Def Jam Entertainment. Earning a host of positive reviews the album was led by the single “Familiar Realm” and peaked at No. 35 on the Billboard 200. The band spent the rest of 2005 and the majority of 2006 touring internationally and subsequently signed with Roadrunner Records in December ’06. Recorded at Chad I Ginsburg’s Studio CIG, CKY released their fourth studio album “Carver City” in May 2009. Led by the singles “Hellions on Parade” and “A#1 Roller Rager”, the record charted at No. 46 on the Billboard 200 and earned a wave of positive reviews. The “B-Sides & Rarities” album followed in 2011 supported by the single “Afterworld”.

  • CKY

CKY has been cranking up their intense metal for quite sometime now, and their fierce heavy sound seems to be as consistent as ever.

Guitarists, Deron Miller and Chad Ginsburg, have great dynamics when playing together. One guitarist is playing a heavy rhythm while incorporating screeching pitch bends into the mix while the other guitarist is shredding up some fast paced riffs on the guitar. They also manage to get some funky sounds out of their playing by using a wah-wah pedal on their guitars. CKY also gets some really angular and dissonant sounds that give their music a unique style. The drummer, Jess Margera, has great rhythm while performing, tightly holding together the sound and bellowing out thunderous sounds of intensity from his drum kit. CKY also has a very entertaining stage presence they are constantly performing stage antics and joking around with their fans. At one of their concerts they were teasing their fans by playing a Britney Spears song until the crowd loudly demanded that CKY continue with their music. The crowd always seems to be enthusiastic about CKY’s performance. They chant CKY’s name loudly and join in with crowd surfing and head banging. CKY has strong ties to the drummer’s brother, Bam Margera, and thus has been associated with such things as skateboarding videos and the television shows, Jackass and Viva La Bam. Although CKY always delivers an intense performance, they still manage to maintain a playful characteristic to their show, which allows everyone to have a fun time.

  • I've been a fan of CKY for 15 years and finally saw them last night for the first time. They absolutely killed it as a three piece and sounded better than ever. Their newest album the Phoenix absolutely slays and I can't wait to hear what they'll put out next.

I have never raged and danced so hard at a show. The audience was absolutely GETTING IT. This band really connected with the audience too- you could feel their love for their fans. I met all of the dudes after the show as they stayed and hung outside and talked to every single person who wanted to meet them. Genuinely humble and awesome dudes. I am a fan for life!

  • I never heard of CKY until they toured with H.I.M. I can't explain what their music is about but, I like it.I've watched some of their old videos and it looks like they lost a member but, the music sounds the same.

I can't say if I would go again it depends on who they tour with. H.I.M. is the only reason I went.
