Bad Manners (formed in 1976) is an English ska band, who came to fame during the early 1980s among other such ska revival bands as Madness and The Specials, hailing from London, UK.
Formed in 1976 while members were still studying together at Woodberry Down Comprehensive School in North London, Bad Manners became one of the notable ska revival bands of the ‘80s. Frontman and vocalist Buster Bloodvessel, born Douglas Trendle, joined Louis Cook on guitar, David Farren on bass, Martin Stewart on keyboard, Brain Tutti on drums, Gus Herman on trumpet, Chris Kane on saxophone, and Andrew Marson on saxophone.
Drawing inspiration from late seventies ska bands including The Specials, Bad Manners soon became a notorious act known for their novel antics and frontman Bloodvessel’s long tongue and shaved head, and who ended up getting the band banned from the UK’s Top of the Pops. In 1980 the Bad Manners signed to Magnet Records and made appearances on the TV shows “Tiswas”, “The British Music Awards” in 1981 and “Cheggers Plays Pop”.
Despite being associated with the 2 Tone movement, the band never actually signed to 2 Tone Records, although were one of six bands to feature on the legendary documentary film “Dance Craze” in 1981. The bands first three albums have all been certified silver, 1980’s “Ska ’n’ B” and “Loonee Tunes!”, and “Gosh It’s… Bad Manners” in 1981. The latter of which proved to be the band’s most popular release reaching No. 18 in the UK album chart. Following the release of their fourth album “Forging Ahead” in 1982, Bad Manners departed from Magnet Records and moved to Portrait records through which they released their 1985 album “Mental Notes”. Following the release as they did with their previous albums, Bad Manners toured continuously around the world however, due to falling sales and acclaim, decided to disband in 1987.
Bad Manners returned and subsequently released “Return of the Ugly” in 1989, “Fat Sound” in 1992, “Heavy Petting” in 1997 and “Stupidity” in 2003. Along with album releases the band has released a stack of singles, of which notable hits include “My Girl Lollipop”, “Lip Up Fatty”, “Can Can” and “Special Brew”.
Leer másSome bands never seem to leave the decade in which they gained their initial fame and whilst some get criticised for not moving on, you could not imagine Ska band Bad Manners ever really leaving the 80s and 90s. Buster Bloodvessel and his large array of musicians have a wonderfully nostalgic sound and although they have continued to release albums into the 00s, they have that synonymous tone that fits with Bad Manners' music.
In the early 80s when the UK became infatuated with ska, reggae and dancehall the group enjoyed numerous singles sticking in the charts for months on end. Therefore there is a fanbase of those old enough to buy the records and those who would have heard the likes of 'Lip Up Fatty' played relentlessly on the radio. It is a brilliant live show that is never too serious and allows itself a great sense of fun. Buster is the commander of the ship yet he only triumphs thanks to his fantastic brass section, enthusiastic 90s dancing girls and accompanying instrumentalists. The crowd also helps the operation with great energy throughout but lets face it, there really is no way you could avoid dancing to 'My Girl Lollipop' and 'Lorraine'.
Ska music is always great and lots of fun, but live Ska music takes it to a whole different level. Long time Ska band, Bad Manners is the perfect example of this fact. Led by Buster Bloodvessel, the 13-piece band has everything from live horns to all types of saxophones, and the liveliest amount of energy possible.
From start to finish, the show is full of almost obnoxious amounts of energy. As soon as the saxophone riff starts the crowd, as well as the band, start dancing, and its non-stop until the end. Literally everyone in the venue is having tons of fun, even if you are the most terrible dancer there. The music that they make together blends so well, but each instrumentalist maintains a bit of their own personality (ie, a blue trombone). There is an obvious chemistry between all of them, and you can tell that their happy place is when they are just jamming together. On top of that, their fans are so respectful and loving of their band, and music genre. It does not necessarily appeal to a very large group, but those that do attend the shows are “give it your all” dancers and singers.
I booked my tickets for this concert months ago and finally the night arrived, we rocked up to the Cambridge junction and it was packed. 3 bands were on BIG 10 a fantastic ska band then max splodge and finally bad manners, when buster came out the place errupted and it went mental everyone skanking, he played all the hits and was on for over hour and a half and all I can say is thank you buster for a superb night bring on next year

The gig itself was fantastic buster did not disappoint us all the old hits were sung and tjere was lots of bouncing and skanking done, now the question you ask is would I go and see them again? The answer is
In an instant
Great to see Bad Manners at long last! Buster Bloodvessel was entertaining and engaging with the crowd. The band was very tight too - great concert.
The fans were mental, but in a good way. Looked like everyone had fun.
Los Globos was a good little place too, nice venue to see bands up-close and personal. Staff were all pretty chill and pricing good for drinks.
Fun night and glad I went.
Bad Manners is one of the best SKA Bands i've ever seen. I saw them first in 1988 at the "Return of the Ugly" Tour. Now i try to see them everytime they are in Munich. If you are a SKA Fan you can't stop to move your feet. They play all the Hits: This is Ska, Sally Brown, Fatty Fatty, Wully Bully, Inner London Violence.... and so on. Hope to see them next year again. Keep on Skankin'
Awesome show!! Bad Manners is on my bucket list to see them in the U.K.! That's next! Yesterday's show did not disappoint, it was full of energy and they sounded great!!! I don't know where Buster gets his energy but he sounds and looks great! I wish they had merchandise, I wanted to get a t-shirt, pins and stickers but all they had was a poster.
Bad Manners were awesome, they just get better with age, the support acts were also excellent and the atmosphere was electric and cheerful. Under The Bridge in Fulham is also a a great venue which I look forward to going to again. I'm disabled and the security staff were very helpful to accommodate my needs.
It was canceled!!! Simple as that. So you either never new or if you did you did nothing about it. That am afraid has left a bitter taste in my mouth because I rely on this app to keep me up to sate due to lack of advertising here in wa perth
