Seth Lakeman is right up there with lindsey stirling as one of my all-time favorite violin players of all time. He, like Lindsey Stirling, can take anything that is mainstream and turn it into a beautiful violin solo. He doesn't need a stage of any sort to play and he doesn't need a band to back him up to make him sound good. He, instead of using a drummer, uses his own foot to keep the beat of the music he is playing and times his playing in a way that sudden pauses work well with the overall flow of the song.
From the very beginning of the song "Kitty Jay" you feel that a story is being told to you and Seth puts all the emotion in the way he plays and the way he moves that gives you the impression that he is really expressing the feelings of the story. Even though he doesn't ask for it directly, he gives the crowd cues on when to join in and clap when he beginnings a solo and like clockwork they begin to clap in unison to the beat. The great thing about this is that Seth plays in a way in which it is easy to follow and after each set that he plays he thanks the crowd for listening. After completing the show he again thanks the crowd for stopping by and says that he will see them soon. His voice is so natural and carefree that even in this moment you really do want to see him play again because he sounds so genuine and appreciative of the time that people took out of their day to see him perform.
What to say! I've seen Seth several times in my humble lifetime. Once at a festival, once as a support for the Levellers (many years ago) and twice in the last four months. In the time since I first saw him, Seth has stepped out of the shadow of folk supergroup Equation (which also featured his brother and his brothers' folk super-women wives Cara Dillon and Kathryn Roberts) and become a successful folk artist in his own right.
If ever a folk musician could be likened to a pop star, his name would be Seth Lakeman; his musical prowess speaks for itself but his boyish good looks, effortless stage presence and humble nature just makes him even more likeable. Seth is just one of a number of musicians who have pushed folk music forward into the realms of 'coolness' again and rightly so.
Seth is ultimately an incredible crowd pleaser and plays a host of instruments with amazing talents. This gig showcased the current album Word of Mouth along with several folk stomping Seth classics. His band are equally as talented and they all seem to have a rip roaring time together on stage. Words and description can't do this man justice!
Prepare yourself for incredible harmonies, beautiful instruments and to get up on your feet for some folk foot stomping madness
I missed Seth twice in one year in Norwich, so ensure that I attend all gigs I can.
My first concert was Norwich where he was superb and I was at the front.
I waited after, but did not think I would get to meet him so asked staff at venue for a large poster (framed on my wall now).
They said Seth was signing autographs in the hall.
I rushed back and saw him.
The autograph was signed and photo was taken.
I was buzzing with excitement and did thank him for performing back in Norfolk and producing such deep and emotive songs.
Since then I have attended twice more and now my mate is hooked on Seth.
A performance at the Minack Theatre, jutting over the wild Atlantic ocean near Land's end is the pinnacle concert for me, although other venues such as The Apex at Bury St Edmunds are stunning.

He was brilliant as ever, as was his band. We were disappointed not to be told that there was a support, this was not clear on the tickets.
The concert was completely spoiled for us by the large number of people in the audience using their phones to film the performance. It was totally distracting and disruptive. We have seen Seth before twice and there was some of this behaviour then, it was absolutely terrible this time. Unfortunately unless the policy on the use of mobile phones changes we won't be going to see him again!
My first live Seth Lakeman show. Loved it. The first half was a narrated musical journey with the Mayflower and the setting in Southwark Cathedral added a layer of history & religion to the atmosphere. Seth & Alex's duet was a real delight but musically I favoured the second half with a special mention to Seth's energetic and innovative fiddle solo. Seth's music is heartily folk but I love that he pushes the edges and experiments with other genres. That is why keeps me as a fan.
At a concert in Bristol to see Robert Plant and his fantastic band! Seth Lakeman opened and he was excellent although not my normal taste in music - but a great last song. He then joined Robert Plant for a number of songs and he offered a new dimension to the sound.

My husband and I have seen Seth before, but we took two friends with us to this gig. It was a fantastic night, Seth was amazing and the supporting act Wildwood Kin were an absolute pleasure to listen to. Seth Lakeman doesn't disappoint and I would urge anyone who has never experienced one of his concerts to grab some tickets asap!
One of my favourite artists. Have seen him several times. Never disappoints. He's a great songwriter and a brilliant musician & performer ably enhanced by his band. King & Country and his acoustic version of Portrait of my Wife brilliant & poignant. A great gig ...and he signed a t shirt for my daughter who is also a big fan!
The concert was fantastic. The atmosphere was great, with Seth managing to energize what had been a rather stayed audience at the start. Of course he also showed his excellent musicianship, song writing capability and vocals.
The venue, Leeds Town Hall was good and I would definitely see artists at it again.
It is always great seeing Seth Lakeman. He knows how to put on a good show, very energetic and a very talented musician.
Great at getting the crowd to join in and writes some very good songs too.
A thoroughly descent bloke and a damn good act.
