• If you get the chance to see Monsters of Folk, it is really something you can’t pass up. When I found out I was going to have the chance to see them, I knew I was going. The group was mad up of some of my favorite acts including Jim James (My Morning Jacket), M. Ward (M. Ward, She & Him), Conor Oberst(Bright Eyes), Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes), and Will Johnson (Centro-matic/South San Gabriel), so seeing them live is like getting the chance to see three concerts in one. The concert was at a smaller venue downtown, on a week night, so the turn out wasn’t huge.

  However, there was a decent crowd of mid 20 “hipster” types, all ready for a great show. They started the set with the song Losin Yo’ Head which got everyone in the groove. After that, they played “The Right Place” and “Baby Boomer”. The band had great chemistry onstage and had a lot of casual banter between each other and the crowd making us feel like they were all friends and just coming to hang out with us. The band closed their perfect set with Say Please, which was a nice smooth end to the night. The name Masters of Folk sure is fitting.
