Biografía

  • Here We Go Magic (formed in 2008) is an American indie rock five-piece led by the creative prowess of frontman Luke Temple, hailing from Brooklyn, New York, U.S.

Prior to the formation of Here We Go Magic, Brooklyn-native Luke Temple had released a pair of folk albums under his own name in the mid-2000s. In 2009 temple issued Here We Go Magic’s debut, self-titled album on Western Vinyl, earning a string of warm reviews from indie-oriented publications. Showcasing the band’s eclectic stylings which include hazy guitars, high-pitched looped vocals and a handful of synths, the record was supported by several well-received tours. By this point Here We Go Magic expanded to increase their scope and consisted of Temple, guitarist Michael Bloch, drummer Peter Hales, keyboardist Kristina Lieberson, and bassist Jen Turner.

Following a pair of tours in support of Grizzly Bear and The Walkmen, Here We Go Magic issued their sophomore album “Pigeons” in June 2010. Led by the single “Collector”, which was voted Best New Music by online publication Pitchfork, the record increased the band’s blogosphere standing, compounded by subsequent shows at SXSW, Pitchfork Festival, Latitude, Bestival, and Glastonbury. The year was closed out with a tour in support of Canadian indie-rockers Broken Social Scene, before Here We Go Magic issued the EP “The January EP” in January 2011.

Alongside Radiohead’s Thom Yorke producer Nigel Godrich caught the band’s performance at Glastonbury Festival and asked to produce their fourth album. The band naturally accepted the offer, the album of which, “A Different Ship”, surfaced in 2012 highlighting the band’s meticulous detail and expansive jams. Following a national tour beginning in November 2012, including dates alongside Andrew Bird, the band released the double-sided single “How Do I Know” / “My Plate’s on Fire” in 2012, followed by “You Get More Done When You’re Happy” in 2012.

  • Here We Go Magic

Here We Go Magic has a unique sound that is hard to accurately describe except by maybe calling it complete magic. The lush synthesizers and ethereal sounding guitars create layers of interesting sounds that make for an inviting musical atmosphere to be a participant.

Here We Go Magic is fun to see live because the band knows how to work together to build up layers of catchy, danceable music. The synths create a shimmering soundscape and the guitar is played in a staccato, punchy style that penetrates through the ambience of the synths. Although the synths can be used to create an ambience, they often play some funky, warm sounding leads that give the music a danceable quality to it. Lead singer, Luke Temple, has a very intriguing voice singing in the falsetto vocal range and delivering his vocals in a very delicate and pristine manner. He has often been compared to such notable artists like Paul Simon and Nick Drake due to his vocal style and folk influence.

Here We Go Magic’s music is immediately entrancing. They usually start out their songs with a very catchy melody and then build off that melody to create ornate sounds. They often have the tendency to reiterate melodies and spin their music off into fun, psychedelic escapades. The band has quickly gained a name for themselves in the music industry impressing the likes of talented bands such as Grizzly Bear and Broken Social Scene, who asked them to open for them on tour. Thom Yorke also declared them his favorite musical act at the 2010 Glastonbury music festival. The way that Here We Go Magic delivers their music is exhilarating and fun to see, and with them adding a little hint of ambient sound and a dash of psychedelic-folk rock to their music makes them an incredibly interesting band to see live.

  • American indie rock trio Here We Go Magic may have only formed in 2008 yet their music has an other worldly quality that makes it sound instantly retro and classic. It could be the organic and DIY mentality to their instrumentals which translates almost identically from the recorded albums to the live show and back again. Focused around lead singer Luke Temple, the group take to stage to a smattering of applause and cheers as they give a wry nod before beginning a long introducing section of 'Hard to Be Close' and 'Make Up Your Mind'. It does feel a little like a jam session onstage yet this is part of their appeal as it is very unassuming and has an inherent charm. You cannot deny the appeal of this band, their music is reminiscent of the golden age of 80s with a wonderfully psychedelic nuance.

The lyrics also reflect their base in the New York and aptly soundtrack some of the place's most indie haunts. Their reputation seems to be growing all the time thanks to the support of British publications and tonight the final track 'How Do I Know' receives the biggest cheer to date leaving the band looking elated and a little surprised. Great band heading for even greater things.
