Biografía

  • Hailing from Leicestershire, UK, Kasabian are one of the most recent bands to ascend to stadium playing levels of success this millennium. They’ve released five albums since forming in 1997, and are a quartet based around the creative duo of frontman Tom Meighan and Lead Guitarist Sergio Pizzorno.

They’re probably one of the most misunderstood, contrary bands in British rock right now, so of course they would also be one of the biggest. In 2014 alone they had a Pyramid Stage headliner slot at Glastonbury Festival , played a sold out show in their hometown of Leicester’s 60’000 capacity Victoria Park, released another number one album and capped it off with a sold out tour taking in five nights at Brixton Academy in London.

Yet that doesn’t mean that everyone, or indeed anyone, truly gets them. Many people peg them as heirs to Oasis’ lad rock crown but the band are far more interesting and uncompromising than that. They’ve always sounded more like a more techno-infused Stone Roses or a more guitar based Prodigy than any other bands who would never have even thought of taking up instruments if it wasn’t for “Definitely Maybe”.

For a band with such a populist touch (a Brit Award, millions of albums sold, headline slots at every major British festival there is) they have never lost their thrillingly weird side that has led to collaborations with everyone from Noel Fielding to Richard Ayoade, through to Gorillaz cohort Dan The Automator.

Truth is though, in lead guitarist, head songwriter and all around main man Sergio Pizzorno, they have a band leader who’s more adept at combining terrace anthem choruses with underground strangeness than any collaborator could possibly be. In Tom Meighan, they have one of the most charismatic, electric frontmen of their age. Their reign at the top will go on and on and on for a very good reason, there’s no one else around quite like them, in the U.K or anywhere else.

  • Kasabian

This is the second time I have since Kasabian in the last twelve months. A year ago I watched them in a smallish venue in Amsterdam (Paradiso) and managed to stand right at the front. That was a great gig. The Summer Solstice gig in Leicester was on a whole different level - it was awesome. The band absolutely killed it. The countdown on the back screen added to the anticipation, then as Shiva started up it intensified even more. As soon as Bumblebeee started the crowd went mad. We stood in front of the first barrier so pretty close to the stage but out of the moshpit. It was absolutely rammed in this area but all very good natured. Every song was full-on energy. Everyone was bouncing (some dancing but not much room to do it). The playlist was a brilliant mix of old and new tracks - everyone a killer (and there are other fantastic tracks which could have been included). The white backdrop to the stage ensured that you could easily see the group. The lighting and lasers added to the effect without overkill. The pink and white effect a total contrast to the (unfounded) view that they are just a lad's band. The crowd was a mix of young and old, male/female, and many family groups. At the end it was clear how much it meant to all of the band who constantly thanked the crowd. It was the best gig I have ever attended and I was still buzzing the following day. I highly recommend Kasabian gigs to anyone. It is difficult to pick out a highlight as the whole setlist was brilliantly put together.

  • What can you say about a Kasabian show? Glorious? Yes. Exuberant? Certainly. Defiant? Of course. But more than anything else simply ...Rocking.

From the first thumping chords of opener "Ill Ray" Kasabian announced their intent to deliver. Storming through a set list loaded with heady anthems, occasionally bringing the mood lower with numbers like the terrific "Goodbye Kiss", Kasabian had the whole arena eating out of their hands.

There's something special that happens when this band start to play in front of an audience. It's united - from those who just love the killer hooks to those who love that Kasabian really dont give a crap about the estaishment and really capture the spirit of rebellion. They're a band that capture the mood of the common person with lyrics at times partying and at other times sobering and thoughtful. But always hopeful - and with a joyous shout. A proper "fuck you" band exhorting the people to stand together and rise as one.

And rise the crowd did. Every single person in Leeds arena on their feet, jumping, dancing, singing - all together as one from those in the sweaty heaving mosh of the floor to those right at the very top of the top tier.

A marvellous night. Kasabian are the band that Oasis wished they were or xould have been.

  • Kasabian are one of those bands that you mention in America and no one knows. This is a double-edged sword. On the one hand you wish people would take notice and they would become successful do you can talk about them. On the other hand, they can remain a niche band and tour America in small, general admission venues for lower ticket prices. I prefer the latter option. The people that show up to those shows are the TRUE fans. And Kasabian delivers in spades.

Kasabian have the spark that a lot of big bands sorely lack, or have lost because they've gotten too famous. I have seen them twice, front row both times, both at the 9:30 Club in DC. They incorporate the crowd when they can, they dance, they move and they get the crowd off. It's hard to describe. I go to almost a dozen shows per year but Kasabian has both times been the best show I have ever seen. Then again, they are one of my favorite bands.

  • Not many bands can deliver the energy and presence required to rock a 100,000 person arena or stadium and translate that to a 2,000 person hall for an intimate show. Not many singers can make their voice ring clearly over the thunder of distorted guitars and hammering drums. Luckily for me and anyone else who caught the show last night at the Metro, Kasabian has both presence and a capable singer who did not disappoint even the most demanding of critics. I have loved this band for years now but I did not anticipate that they would still put on such a great live performance and play a healthy mix of classics and new material. I would heartily recommend this band as a great performance and I will be coming back for more if they ever come back to Chicago.

  • As a major fan of British/European music, I must say it is always a pleasure to see these bands in the US since a lot of them play in smaller places.

I've seen Kasabian 3 times and my wife has 9 times now. They NEVER disappoint and this show was the same.

The energy they bring is amazing time after time and their music is always fun. They also look like they are having a legit great time up there doing what they love to do.

I was up front and again (which I should have learned)I should have brought ear plugs! But, the sound is muffled when one does uses those, so if you can stand a few days of ringing, then don't worry about it.

Overall if you thinking of seeing them live please, please GO. You will leave a fan.

  • 2009: I am 14, everybody is going crazy about Fire which was the first song I heard, and then Kasabian took my life by storm.

2011: Velociraptor! is out, adventurous and leaving behind all the bands which prefer to stay conservative and stand by classic sounding.

2014: I am 19, and 48:13 strikes with its sonic experimentation. It is colourful, wild, tentative and boundary-pushing.

2017: For crying out loud, so much awaited and so easy-to-love, prolongs the party which was carried to the concert. And it was a true madness fueled by our crazy love and the band’s response. Kasabian can be whatever band they want to be - they have our full support

  • I have been attending Rock Werchter for over a decade but in the last edition, Kasabian really stood out on the main stage. They totally got me hooked with their energy, sound quality, musical diversity and excellent mix of guitars and electronics. Now, I have all their albums and love 'm all. I hope to see them a couple of times more.

  • To put it quite simply, it was one of the greatest nights of my life. I have been so excited to see Kasabian live since I first heard processed beats in 2005. The night was unparalleled, Tommy and serge were fantastic and the set was absolutely brilliant! I could never have imagined being at a better gig than that!

  • Saw these folk earlier in the year at Glasto, and had seen them on a further two occasions prior. Each time it gets successively better!

The energy, light/stage set and overall performances were all top-notch. The set was also just shy of a full two hours. Top effort and a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
